ICU Showdown: Do Me Dirty and I'll Do You In
Chapter 3
The next second, Elizabeth greeted Lyra warmly. "What's going on here, Lyra? You're about to become the wife of the hospital director. How could you still be so careless?"
Lyra slipped right back into her sweet, gracious persona and looped her arm through Elizabeth's affectionately. However, when she looked at me, her eyes were full of contempt. "I'm not the problem here, Mrs. Warren. Mira is the one with no shame.
"She knows she's STD-positive, yet still acts as if she were clean and came for the compatibility test. She's basically trying to infect Mr. Warren!"
Elizabeth's expression changed in an instant. "You've gone too far, Mira!" she snapped at me.
My classmates chimed in, "Exactly! She did the same thing back then. She contracted an STD and tried to pin it on Lyra."
"I'm telling you, people like her never change. Garbage like her should just die!"
Elizabeth's gaze flickered.
I hoped she would tell the truth. After all, she was the one who had examined Lyra in the first place.
To my surprise, she switched gears and adopted a patronizing tone. "Isn't all that ancient history now? Mira was in the wrong, but Lyra didn't hold it against her, so you should all drop the matter.
"Mira, apologize to Lyra, and compensate my husband 100 thousand dollars for the emotional duress. Then, we can forget this ever happened."
I couldn't believe my ears. I bet it was because Lyra told Elizabeth that her husband's ward and doctors were all arranged because she was the wife of the hospital director.
That had to be the reason why she dared to lie through her teeth and nail that dirty accusation to my name.
Meanwhile, my self-righteous classmates believed her ridiculous claim and helped her gang up on me. Yet, they were unaware that Lyra wasn't the wife of the hospital director. She was only an impostor.
I wiped the blood from the corner of my mouth and looked Elizabeth straight in the eye. "I'm not apologizing. Also, you know perfectly well who that test result belonged to. I still have her—"
I was about to lay out the truth from that year when Lyra pinched Elizabeth.
Lyra then marched up to me and slapped me across the face with all her strength, yelling at the top of her lungs, "You bitch, at this point, you still won't own up to it? In that case, you leave me no choice. Drag her out!"
As soon as her words fell, my classmates swarmed me and dragged me out of the hospital.
Only just arriving, Chris took one look at my battered state and went pale. He hurried toward me and fretted, uttering, "Are you alright, Mrs. Kensington?"
Yet, his words sent the crowd roaring with laughter.
"Hold on. Did he just call her Mrs. Kensington? How could a filthy bitch like her be Mrs. Kensington?"
"Mira, you really don't know when to quit, huh? First, you pretended to be Lyra, the wife of the hospital director, and now you hired some guy to pretend you're rich. Is this how you scam old men into funding your lifestyle?"
"As if that's not enough, she even has the same car as Lyra. Don't tell me she rented it for the day."
"Let's smash it and bleed her dry!" Lyra hollered as everyone else grabbed bricks and rushed toward my car.
Chris tried to stop them, but he was shoved to the ground. The group also started beating him up, slamming their fists into his face.
"Since you're so into earning money, here's your big break!"
"We'll cripple you and make that bitch pay your medical bills!"
"Serves you right for being greedy! You deserve to be beaten to death!"
Chris and I both suffered inhumane treatment. Within moments, my luxury car was destroyed beyond recognition.
All of a sudden, someone spotted the imported medicine in my trunk and pulled it out. My heart lurched.
It was the specialized medication I had bought my mother-in-law when I was overseas.
I had intended to give them to her at the hospital today. But I never imagined they'd be dug out like this.
Someone read the label aloud. "Sildenafil… isn't this Viagra?"
