Chapter 1

My friend and I transmigrated into a melodramatic novel about a wealthy family. When the mission ended, I chose to leave.

He fell for the obsessive female lead and chose to stay with her.

Eight years later, the system told me that she had locked him in a mental hospital, and he had only three days left to live.

When I rushed to him, he was tied to the bed. His eyes were dull, and he kept repeating my name.

His crush, Sterling Group's CEO, was planning a grand wedding with the man she truly loved.

I looked at my friend’s hands. They had once played the piano with grace. This time, they were covered in countless needle marks.

“You came, I knew you would...”

He mustered the last of his strength to look at me. “I was a fool. I thought staying by her side was the truest form of my love for her.

“I never realized I was only a stepping stone in her path.

“Take me home. I don’t want to die here...”

“Xavier…” I said in a trembling, hoarse voice.

“All right. We’ll go home.”

I forced out a faint smile as tears welled in my eyes.

“I’ll take you home.”

His unfocused eyes flickered. He tried to smile, but only managed to twitch a stiff muscle in his face.

“Quincy… Quincy…”

His voice was so faint that I could barely hear it. Every word seemed to drain the last of his life.

My hands shook as I tried to unfasten the strap around his wrist.

It had cut deep into his skin and left dark red scabs.

A doctor in a white coat walked in with a blank face. He glanced at me coldly.

“Who are you? Visiting hours are over.”

I turned suddenly. The iciness in my eyes made the doctor take a step back.

“What happened to him?”

The doctor adjusted his glasses and gave a brisk response.

“The patient suffers from severe delusions and violent tendencies. These restraints are necessary.

“His family signed the consent forms. All our treatments are by the book.”

‘Family? Moon Sterling? That monster?’ I thought.

I looked back at Xavier and carefully lifted the sleeve of his hospital gown.

The hands that had once danced across the black and white keys on a piano and played the most beautiful music in the world had withered to skin and bones. They were covered in bruises and needle marks. New wounds stacked over old ones, and there was almost no unbroken skin left behind.

“Does it hurt?” I asked in a choked voice.

He seemed not to hear me. His eyes stayed fixed on me as his lips moved.

“She’s getting married. It’s in the papers… She and Ryan look so perfect together…”

“Enough!” I shouted. My heart ached for him.

The doctor rapped impatiently on the door.

“Ms. Sterling has ordered that he mustn’t get emotional. Sir, you need to leave immediately.”

I ignored him. I leaned close to Xavier’s ear and whispered, “Xavier, hang in there. I will get you out.

“We’ll go back to our own world where there’s no Moon and no Ryan. It’ll be just the two of us.

“I even signed you up for a world piano tour. Fans everywhere are waiting for you.”

At the word “piano,” a flicker of light appeared in his hollow eyes. But it faded almost immediately.

“My hands are ruined,” he whispered.

“They gave me injections and shocks. My head doesn’t work anymore. I can’t remember the scores.”

I bit down hard on my lip, and the taste of blood filled my mouth.

I told myself I could not cry. Xavier needed me.

“It’s all right. I’ll remember them for you.” I gripped his freezing hand tight.

“I don’t want anything else. I only want you to live. Let’s go home, okay?”

“Okay… Home…”

The light in his eyes went out, and his head slumped onto my shoulder.

At that moment, the world fell silent.

The only person I cared about and the only thing tethering me to this world died quietly in my arms.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the city, Moon held a grand engagement party for her crush.

On TV, her radiant face wore an affectionate smile. Ryan White stood beside her. They looked like a perfect match.

They celebrated with great fanfare.

I held Xavier’s body and let out a bitter laugh.

They made him suffer, and now I will make them pay tenfold!

Bound By Blood: The Billionaire's Contract Novel Cover

I woke up gasping for air, expecting the cold concrete of a prison cell, but my fingers sank into the plush leather of a luxury Lincoln. I was twenty-four again, wearing the silver silk dress from the night my life was systematically destroyed. Beside me sat my cousin Catrina, the woman whose carefully crafted lies had orchestrated my ruin and sent me to a penitentiary for five years. In my first life, this was the night the dominoes fell. Catrina stole my jewelry to paint me as mentally unstable, and by morning, I was stripped of my medical license and labeled a criminal. My mother’s family, the Montgomerys, stood by and watched as my father’s company was devoured by wolves, treating my existence like a "liability" that needed to be managed. I still felt the phantom tremors in my hands from prison fights and the stinging betrayal of being discarded by the people I called family. I had lived through five years of absolute hell, a former surgeon rotting in a cell while the people who framed me toasted to their success at galas I was no longer invited to. "Don't be selfish, Dawn," Catrina whispered, reaching for the necklace that would later be used as evidence against me. "Let the jewelry shine on someone who actually matters." She thought I was still the fragile victim she could manipulate, but she didn't realize I had returned from the grave with the cold, clinical calculation of a fixer. Instead of walking into her trap at the gala, I forced the car onto a dark service road and dragged a dying billionaire, Jennings Stafford, from the wreckage of a burning SUV. He was the only man powerful enough to destroy my enemies, and as I stitched his wounds with stolen supplies, I didn't ask for a thank you. I looked him dead in the eye and proposed a contract that would set the world on fire. "I want a strategic marriage. You get a harmless wife with a legacy name to calm your board, and I get immunity from everyone who ever touched me." The bill for my five years in prison had finally come due, and I was here to collect.
