I Reject You: The Broken Luna's Royal Destiny

For five years, I was the fated mate of Brannon Hoffman, the powerful Alpha heir—until he demanded I renounce my claim so his lover, Elenore, could survive her Moon Sickness. In my past life, I obeyed. He trapped me with Pack Law, used his Alpha command to steal my dying grandmother's only doctor, and paraded their "true love" while my family was destroyed. I died broken and alone. Now I've awakened back in his study, right as he asks me to step down. This time, I don't weep. I name my terms: I will formally reject him on the full moon, before every elder and every wolf. Knowing his games won't end, I walk into the crown's palace and accept a royal mate bond with Prince Gideon, the crippled heir the kingdom wrote off. This time, I'm setting the rules.

Chapter 2

Alanna's POV:

I shut the door to my chambers, the solid wood a welcome barrier against the curious stares of the servants in the hallway. In my past life, this room was a cage of tears and despair. Now, it was my war room.

My personal maid, Livia, rushed in with a glass of warm milk. She was a gift from my mother, loyal to the core. Her eyes were red-rimmed. "My lady, I heard... How could he do this to you!"

I took the glass, the warmth seeping into my cold fingers. I patted her hand. "Livia, don't worry. Everything will be alright."

"But..." she started, her voice trembling.

I cut her off gently. "Go and get me the Pack codex. The full version, the one that hasn't been edited."

Livia looked confused but nodded immediately. She knew that while I appeared soft, my decisions were final.

Soon, a heavy, leather-bound book sat on my desk. I opened it, the pages smelling of dust and time, and turned directly to the section on mate bonds. I had never paid attention to these laws before. Now, every word could be the key to my survival.

The next day, Brannon sent his attendant, Milo, to deliver his "agreement." Milo strutted in with the swagger of a beta grown drunk on his Alpha's favor, sneering down his nose at the wolfless Omega he had been ordered to serve.

The man's tone was arrogant, as if he were bestowing a great favor upon me.

He handed me a formal notice for the rejection ceremony. I took the parchment and read it carefully.

It stated the time and place, and it agreed to my condition that Elenore would not enter the main house before the ritual. Everything seemed to be as I had demanded.

But I knew Brannon. He was an Alpha obsessed with control. He would never allow an Omega to lead him by the nose.

My eyes scanned every word, every punctuation mark. Livia stood beside me, holding her breath.

Then I found it. At the very bottom of the notice, in tiny, almost unnoticeable script, was a reference to a supplementary clause of the codex.

I immediately flipped to the corresponding article in the heavy book. "Supplementary Clause 3.1.5: To protect the stability of the Pack, any change in the mate bond of an Alpha heir requires the 'blessing' of at least two elders from different families before the ceremony, to certify that it is in the Pack's long-term interest."

A cold dread washed over me. It was a trap. It was a snare, and I was the wolf who had walked into it. The elders of the Hoffman Pack were gray-muzzled old wolves who had bowed their necks to Brannon's father for so long they had forgotten how to straighten them. They would never "bless" a ceremony that brought public shame upon the heir.

Brannon had agreed to the public ceremony on the surface, but in reality, he could control the elders and ensure the ritual was never legally permitted to happen.

He could delay it forever, using the excuse that "the elders have not yet consented." I would be trapped indefinitely in this humiliating status of "pending rejection," unable to leave, unable to start a new life.

What a vicious, brilliant move. I almost had to applaud his cruelty.

Livia saw the color drain from my face. "My lady, what is it?"

"It's nothing," I said, folding the document. My gaze hardened. "He wants to play with the rules. So, I'll just have to leave his game board entirely."

I knew then that I could not win this war from inside the Hoffman Pack. I needed an outside force.

A few names flickered through my mind, but I dismissed them one by one. They were either too close to the Hoffmans or not powerful enough to challenge a major Alpha Pack.

I needed someone of high enough status, with no ties to the Hoffmans, and... with a reason to help me.

I stood and walked to the window. The perfectly manicured gardens of the Hoffman estate spread out below, a beautiful prison. I couldn't be trapped here any longer.

"Livia, prepare a simple dress for me, and a discreet carriage."

"My lady, where are you going?" she asked, her voice filled with alarm.

"To visit my family," I lied. In my past life, my brother had been framed and killed in the wilderness for trying to defend my honor against Brannon. In this life, he was dead too, gone before I could save him, leaving only his five-year-old son, Leo, in my grandmother's care. This time, I would not drag what was left of them into my fight.

I would protect it. But "visiting my family" was the perfect excuse, a reasonable and sentimental reason that no one could deny.

I needed to get out of here. I needed to go to the capital.

To see the one person who could break this stalemate.

I looked at my reflection in the mirror. My face was still pale, but my eyes were different. The girl in the mirror was no longer Alanna Cruz, the lamb for slaughter. But to win this war, I had to continue playing the part of one.

Brannon, you think you can trap me with your rules? You will soon learn that a person with nothing left to lose but a thirst for revenge follows no rules at all.
