I Died On The Operating Table
Chapter 2
I was not the only person at the accident site ten years ago.
Niel was there too. He had just enrolled in middle school and was still very naughty. He snuck out for fun that day.
I ran into him when I got out of school.
He stood out like a sore thumb among an arrogant group of smokers with all sorts of piercings.
He had tentatively taken out his allowance and handphone to suck up to the person beside him. I thought that he was being bullied, so I rushed over without hesitation.
But I had moved too suddenly and ended up scaring Niel, so he started running away desperately.
Worried that he would get hurt, I started chasing after him at full speed.
“Niel, don’t run! Come back!”
I gasped for breath and wanted to block Niel’s path.
When he saw me attempting that, Niel stood at the road and stuck out his tongue at me.
He was so focused on doing it that he did not see the car charging at him. I ran toward him and shoved him out of the way.
Fortunately, I had reacted well and Niel was out of harm’s way. But I could only watch as the car went straight at me.
During that critical moment, Sully’s parents ran in front of me and shielded me with their bodies.
I was so scared that I fainted. When I woke up, it was to Sully, whose eyes were swollen from crying.
Due to his cowardice, Niel had already fled a long time ago, and all the blame was placed on me. I did not want that injustice forced on me and wanted to explain it, but Niel stopped me.
He put his hands together and begged me not to tell.
I had always indulged Niel, since I brought him up. Besides, considering the situation back then, no one could say who exactly was in the right or wrong. I fell silent and quietly bore the scolding.
Since she hated me, the moment Sully joined my family, she started insulting me and ostracizing me in all manner and form.
She broke my toys, stole my room, and drove me into a corner.
That was the first time I thought that my life was so dark, and I could see the end of my life in sight.
On the day I lost the right to eat at the dining table, I cried and screamed in protest, but my mother just grabbed a stick and beat me with it.
“You brat! If it weren’t for you, people wouldn’t be talking about your dad and me, and Sully wouldn’t have lost her parents! You have no right to kick up a fuss! Even if she wants you to eat out of the dog bowl, you deserve it!”
When Sully heard this, her eyes shone, and Niel understood what she wanted.
He grabbed a broken bowl and threw it in front of me like an act of charity.
“Sully gave you this. Eat out of this from now on.”
No parent would raise their child like a dog, unless they did not love them.
I understood this fact through the various disappointing events I went through.
But what about Niel? Did he hurt me in order to side with the stronger party?
Just like what he was doing at present?
I shut my eyes in agony.
The doctor spoke up awkwardly, “Miss Zimmer, are you sure you want to donate your bone marrow?”
Look. Even a stranger found their attitude toward me strange. But I just nodded.
It did not matter who Sully’s parents died for. I would just return the favor I owed her.
“But your body…”
I knew what the doctor was implying. I had a tumor in my stomach, and I would not live much longer.
Donating my bone marrow would inevitably become the greatest catalyst to push my death forward. I would not leave the operating table alive.
“It’s fine.”
The pain on my body could not compare to the pain in my heart.
Since no one looked forward to my living, it would be better if I just died.
The nurse who had held my phone for me came back in a hurry. Her eyes sparkled, as if she was giving me my final hope.
Jacob York, my boyfriend’s name, shone on the screen, and it stung my eyes.
The moment the call went through, he immediately started yelling.
“Yelena, where the hell are you?! Don’t you know that Sully is suffering?!
“It’s just your bone marrow! We’re not asking you to die! How could you be so selfish?!
“Even if I did betray you, Sully is innocent! You can’t take it out on her.”
