Chapter 1

I plan on ordering some food using my husband's phone, yet I've noticed a remark that's been saved on the delivery app.

"The food is for a pregnant lady. Please make sure to be hygienic and use less oil and salt when making the dishes."

I can feel my heart sink.

I turn my gaze toward the bathroom, where my husband is.

I can't figure out why my husband, who's been firm about not wanting a child, has been ordering meals for pregnant women.

After a moment of hesitation, I scroll through the delivery app's order history with shaky hands.

Numerous orders have been placed with the same restaurant, one that specializes in making exquisite dishes designed for pregnant women. Each of these food orders costs more than ten thousand dollars.

My husband's company address has been chosen as the delivery address, and he's also the recipient.

After exiting the delivery app, I sit on the couch and stare into space.

As I look at my husband's well-defined muscles, I recall how he, who's about to hit 40, is suddenly quite invested in getting in shape over the past year.

I blurt out asking, "Have you been ordering food to your office often lately?"

My husband freezes for a split second. Then, he fixes me with a gentle gaze.

"I do that once in a while. Why are you suddenly asking about that? By the way, I haven't had the sweet and sour meatballs you make in a long while. Can you make some for me so that I can bring them to the office for my lunch tomorrow?"

I smile at him and agree to his request.

Still, I toss and turn in bed as the remark about the pregnant lady in his phone keeps gnawing at me that night.

Henry Lloyd, my husband, lay on the bed with his back to me and drifted off to sleep in less than half a minute.

While he was fast asleep, I went into his study in search of an answer.

During our ten years of marriage, Henry had always maintained an appropriate distance and was never overly friendly with someone of the opposite gender.

I tried to persuade myself that perhaps the matter regarding the remark in the delivery app was just a misunderstanding.

I attempted to open Henry's laptop to look for more clues. The password was supposed to be my birthday, yet it was shown on the screen that the password was incorrect.

As a woman, my sixth sense was telling me that something was definitely not right.

I tried to unlock the safe this time by keying in my birthday as the password. I was quite surprised when the safe opened.

I felt a little touched as I stared at a box, which stored a pair of cufflinks, kept in the safe.

That was the gift I got Henry the first time he secured an important deal.

Even though he was now a millionaire, Henry had always said that the cufflinks held a very special meaning to him.

It seemed like I had really misunderstood him.

However, I stiffened the second I opened the box.

The cufflinks inside were gone. Instead, inside was a pregnancy test report that was folded into a heart shape.

I could tell that the report was precious to Henry since he had stored it in the safe.

The name stated on the report was Loretta Adams.

My blood froze. Wasn't Loretta Henry's deceased war comrade's wife?

I hadn't realized at all that those two people, who didn't even seem to be keeping in touch, were secretly seeing each other.

My heart ached as I stared at the pregnancy test report. I felt like I could hardly breathe.

I put everything back to its original place and went back to bed, pretending as though nothing had happened. I spent the entire night staring at the ceiling until morning came.

When Henry noticed I was awake, he put his arms around me and pressed a gentle kiss on my forehead.

"Honey, have you made the sweet and sour meatballs?"

Before I could respond, Henry's phone screen lit up. I saw out of the corners of my eyes that it was a message from Loretta.

"Honey, you promised to make me sweet and sour meatballs today. You can't forget about your promise, alright? I have quite an appetite because of the pregnancy. I'll be waiting to taste the food you make."

After taking a glance at his phone, Henry couldn't be bothered to say more to me. He grabbed the sweet and sour meatballs that I had prepared and packed early in the morning from the table and left the house.

I finally grew certain then that Henry was in love with another woman. That woman was even carrying Henry's child.

Henry had suddenly requested that I make sweet and sour meatballs for him when he never enjoyed sweet food. It turned out he was planning to use my cooking to try and please his mistress.

I immediately contacted Cole Snyder, an old friend who was a divorce attorney.

"Please help me draft a divorce agreement. Yes, right away. Also, could you recommend a reliable private investigator to me? You can charge me any price equivalent to the services you're providing me."
