Chapter 4

A sharp pain shot through my wrist. I yanked back, trying to break free.

Out of the corner of my eye, I caught a sea of flashing cameras below. It hit me. Aurelio had staged this to ruin me today, in front of the media and every one of our peers in the Mafia.

I swallowed the rage and leveled a cold stare at him and Maeve. She smirked.

Aurelio seemed to realize he'd overreacted, but he still wouldn't let go. He hauled me to the center of the stage.

Reporters erupted and snapped pictures of me.

"Isn't that the Santoros' oldest daughter? She's actually bullying her stepsister at a launch event. What a disgrace to the Santoros."

Aurelio looked disgusted. "Wanda, apologize to Mae right now! How did I end up tied to someone like you? Unbelievable."

One of his men immediately handed Maeve an inhaler.

"Ms. Wanda, this won't fly. You can't even tolerate your own sister? Mr. Guerra will have plenty more partners going forward. Are you going to go after them one by one?"

"Maybe Ms. Wanda can throw the Santoro name around and chase off every woman around Mr. Guerra!"

Back then, to win Aurelio over, I turned down invitations to major international perfume competitions. I even said publicly that he was my only source of inspiration.

Looking back, I realized I couldn't have been more stupid.

As the whispers swelled, Aurelio leaned in close to my ear. His voice was icy. "Tonight, the elders will decide where the family fortune goes, based on who you choose as your husband. If you still want to marry me, remember what I told you.

"The star of this launch is your perfume, Reverie. I'm going to make it my masterpiece. And you? Behave, or I won't hesitate to make you disappear."

I stared at Aurelio in disbelief, wondering how anyone could be this shameless.

When I kept quiet, he took it as fear and got even cockier. "Be good. Do as you're told, and I'll make you my wife."

He was sure I'd give up everything just to marry him. All eyes were on me, waiting for me to crash and burn.

Just then, the main screen at the launch venue went dark. An audio clip started playing.

It was Maeve's voice. "That idiot. Just give her a little nudge, and she bites. In a minute, I'll fake an asthma attack. Aurelio will fuss over me, and the media will catch Wanda 'bullying' me."

Cesare stood behind the speakers. He wore a perfectly tailored black suit.

He stepped onstage without hurrying, passed Aurelio and Maeve, who both looked stunned, and came straight to me. Then he shrugged off his jacket and draped it over my shoulders.

"Did they push you around?" he asked quietly.

Seeing him pulled me back to my last life. After I died, he quietly bought out every media outlet that smeared me and uncovered the truth about the fire. Then, he handed the evidence to Mom and Dad.

He never said he loved me, but he protected me in his own way.

Seeing that I was dazed, Cesare asked again, "Does it hurt?"

I looked up, meeting his fathomless eyes behind his mask. My nose prickled, and I shook my head. "No, it doesn't."

Aurelio's face darkened. "Cesare, what's that supposed to mean? She's my future wife."

Cesare's right-hand man had somehow gotten on the stage, too. He shot Aurelio a flat, unreadable look and said, "Let's begin. Don Guerra and the elders are here."

I took a deep breath, scanned the roaring crowd, and let my gaze settle on Aurelio.

With everyone watching, I spoke slowly. "I made up my mind back at the perfume sampling. The man I'd give up my past for and stake my future on was never you."

The memories of a primitive world crashed into her mind—she had transmigrated into the body of a sadistic beastman Mistress. But the five powerful beastmen "mates" standing over her hadn't come to her rescue. They had come to watch their tormentor die. "We should just leave her," Kameron sneered coldly. "The scavengers will clean up the mess." Gilberto spat in disgust, while Angelo, a silver-scaled snake-man, trembled in pure terror at the sight of her. The original owner had whipped them, humiliated them, and driven another mate to suicide. Now, they were letting her bleed out in the mud, their eyes filled with undisguised loathing and satisfaction. She was a top-tier apocalyptic survival expert, yet here she was, paying the ultimate price for a stranger's monstrous sins. It was a bitter, unacceptable irony to die helplessly in the dirt while her supposed protectors waited for her corpse to rot. She refused to accept this ending. Forcing a chaotic surge of energy through their shared Biological Link, she brought all five men to their knees in agonizing pain, commanding them to carry her back. In the dark cave, without a single scream, she plunged her bare hands into a fire and brutally cauterized her own gaping wound with searing ash. He hunted me down, kidnapped me, and dragged me back to the estate that had been my prison. I woke up tied to our marriage bed with silk ribbons. "I'm building a garden," he whispered maniacally, stroking my hair as I struggled against the bonds. "Just like you wanted. We're going to be happy." He thought kidnapping was a grand romantic gesture. He thought he could erase the abuse with a fresh coat of paint and forced proximity. But he underestimated me. And he underestimated Hamilton. After a violent rescue, I rose from the ashes not as his wife, but as a titan of industry. Six months later, Jackson stormed the stage at my global summit. He knelt before me on live television, holding a ten-carat pink diamond, thinking he could buy my forgiveness. "I'm ready to take you back," he announced to the world. I looked at the man who had destroyed me, then at Hamilton, the man who had saved me. I grabbed Hamilton's lapels and kissed him in front of millions. "There is no 'us', Jackson," I told him into the microphone, watching his world shatter. "You are just haunting a graveyard."

When I was finally released, gaunt and broken, Dante didn't offer an apology. He offered excuses. He claimed it was necessary to save Chiara, the delicate "golden child" who supposedly saved his life years ago. But it was a lie. I was the one who had drained my veins until I went into shock to save him, while my parents handed the credit to Chiara. Now, back in the manor, I was forced to watch my mate feed her grapes and comfort her fake distress. My parents called me a "soulless waste" and demanded I annul our engagement so Dante could mark Chiara. They thought I was a weak Omega they could discard. They didn't know that the silver hadn't killed me; it had forged me. They had no idea that the "runt" they abused possessed the blood of the White Wolf, the most powerful creature in our history. When the truth finally shattered their lies, Dante crawled to me, bleeding and begging on his knees in a hotel hallway. But I didn't feel triumph. I felt nothing. Pampered By The Ruthless Chicago Don Novel Cover

I was sold to Damien Russo, the ruthless Don of Chicago, as collateral in a shipping route transaction. I was expected to be a silent, obedient bride in a cold, loveless marriage. But the moment I stepped into the Russo estate, I realized my new family wanted to completely destroy me. My mother-in-law, Eleonora, and her arrogant relatives immediately targeted me. They set traps in the solarium, mocked my late mother's heritage, and tried to force me into humiliating submission using their strict mafia traditions. They wanted to break my spirit so Damien would replace me with the bride they actually wanted—a purebred mafia princess. They expected me to cower in fear, isolated and helpless, while the whole family watched my public humiliation and waited for my downfall. Did they really think I was just a fragile girl who would cry and run away? They completely underestimated the survival instincts of a woman who grew up in this bloody world. I learned long ago that tears are worthless. "My rules are simple. Vendetta is a two-way street." Instead of breaking, I smiled. I weaponized their own legendary ancestors and the sacred promise of an unborn heir to trap the Matriarch in her own rules, forcing her into a suffocating silence. If they wanted a war for the throne, I would gladly show them exactly why I am the undisputed Mafia Queen.
