Chapter 1

Chapter 1:

I am the adoptive mother of the real heiress in this story.

In the novel, after the real heiress returns to the wealthiest family, she is framed and excluded by the fake heiress and ultimately driven out, living a lonely life.

Looking at the obedient daughter beside me working on her homework, my eyes warmed up, and I gave a bear hug to this real heiress whom I have raised for sixteen years.

"Don't worry, my daughter, Mom will protect you!"

01

After returning from grocery shopping, I noticed a long line of black luxury cars parked under my old and shabby apartment building, and my eyelid twitched fiercely.

The day had finally come.

A year ago, a vase accidentally hit my head, and a memory that didn't belong to me flooded into my mind.

It turns out that I'm in a story about a real and fake heiress.

The obedient daughter I've raised alone is not my biological daughter but the real heiress of the wealthiest family.

On the day of birth, a rival of the wealthy family randomly switched their daughter with a poor family's child.

I am that mother whose child was swapped for no reason.

The fake heiress is the protagonist of the pampered story, while the real heiress is the vicious supporting character jealous of the fake heiress.

In the story, the real heiress is despised by her biological parents, bullied by the fake heiress's lackeys at school, tries to fight back but is exposed by the fake heiress, and finally is driven out, living a lonely life.

With a complicated expression, I looked at my daughter doing homework beside me, my eyes warmed up.

How could such an adorable and obedient daughter end up in that situation?

I gave my daughter a bear hug: "Don't worry, my daughter, Mom will protect you!"

Isabella Saunders looked at me inexplicably, twitching the corner of her eye: "Mom, if you're sick, go see a doctor."

...

Seeing me approaching with Isabella Saunders, the extravagantly dressed couple at the forefront took two steps forward in surprise.

I gave them a faint glance and then focused my attention on the girl behind them.

Evelyn Grant, my biological daughter, dressed in a Chanel suit, carrying a Hermès bag, looking tearfully at us.

With a complex expression, I thought that after all, she was the daughter I had painstakingly carried for ten months before giving birth.

If she treated Isabella Saunders a little better and didn't act like in the book, that would be the best outcome.

However, the reality was not so.

She also took two steps forward, cautiously tugging at the hem of the wealthy lady's clothes, pursing her lips in grievance.

"Mom, is this my sister? She's so close to my new mom, unlike me; you both are so busy, you rarely have time for me."

"You won't abandon me after finding my sister, right? If you love my sister more, then I'd truly have nothing left."

Tears rolled down uncontrollably after she finished speaking.

The joy of the wealthy couple at finding their biological daughter faded, replaced with heartache for Evelyn Grant.

They hurriedly hugged their little princess, softly comforting her, "How could we? You're also our daughter, your status won't change, Mom and Dad will spoil you for a lifetime!"

I pulled my inexplicably confused daughter aside, coldly watching the harmonious scene in front of me, finding it particularly amusing.

They seemed to have decided that both daughters were theirs, my thoughts didn't matter.

This was also logical, after all, a wealthy family versus a single mother renting an apartment, anyone would know which family to choose.

I didn't mind giving them my daughter, so her future would be better, but the premise was that they would truly treat my daughter well.

I appropriately spoke up, "What are you all doing blocking the entrance to my house?"

02

Isabella Saunders and I sat on one side of the sofa, while the wealthy couple and Evelyn Grant sat on the other side.

"In short, this is how it is, our two families accidentally swapped babies at the hospital."

Owen Grant explained the situation with a pained expression, while Mrs. Grant took out a handkerchief to wipe her tears at the appropriate moment.

"What a twist of fate!"

Isabella Saunders widened her eyes incredulously, mechanically patting my shoulder: "Mom, did you hear that, I'm actually the wealthy family's daughter, your little girl has hit the jackpot!"

I took her hand off my shoulder: "Your mom isn't deaf, I can hear."

Mrs. Grant hugged Isabella Saunders and cried, "Good girl, you've suffered all these years, come home with Mom, Mom and Dad will make it up to you!"

Beside them, Evelyn Grant pinched herself hard, tears streaming down: "Sister, I'm sorry, it's all my fault, I've been occupying your position as the wealthy heiress all these years!"

"I'm truly ashamed to face you, I won't fight you for a position as the Grant family's daughter, I don't want anything, I just hope you can let me stay by Mom and Dad's side!"

What a white lotus, acting as if Isabella refused to let her stay at the Grant family.

Mrs. Grant quickly released Isabella and turned to hug Evelyn Grant, soothing her softly, repeatedly emphasizing that she would always be a daughter of the Grant family.

My silly girl looked baffled, she didn't understand why, just felt a bit uncomfortable.

I sneered coldly, though she was my biological daughter, anyone who dared to bully my treasure wouldn't stand a chance.

Over the past year, I have thoroughly studied various real and fake heiress stories on certain platforms, training soldiers for a day to use them momentarily, and my long-practiced strategies could finally be put to use!

Suddenly, I burst into a heart-wrenching and earth-shattering cry, stubbornly dragging Evelyn Grant into my arms.

"Good daughter, you're really my biological child, you look so much like me!"

"Thankfully, the one who mistakenly took you was the wealthiest family; this Hermès bag you're carrying is equivalent to our family's two years of living expenses; the small suit you're wearing, all of Isabella's clothes combined aren't as expensive as one of yours!"

"Isabella has suffered enough hardships with me, I owe her, but at least you've lived well, raised so precious!"

The wealthy couple's expressions changed, their attention returned to Isabella, looking at her patched clothes, their eyes reddened, filled with guilt.

Evelyn Grant in my arms turned pale, struggling to break free, trying to do something to regain attention, but I held her tightly in my arms.

"To be honest, I'm not a competent mother, Isabella never wore new clothes or ate much meat from childhood, now that she's returning to your family, you can make up for all her grievances over the years."

"I'm entrusting Isabella to you, you must treat her well."

The wealthy couple, influenced by my emotions, their eyes glistened with tears, looking lovingly at Isabella.

Beside me, Isabella looked at me in shock, her face full of surprise.

We don't have much money, but we're not so poor that she doesn't have new clothes to wear, the patched clothes on her were forced on her by me recently.

The purpose was to evoke sympathy in front of the wealthy couple.

"Ms. Saunders, thank you for taking care of our daughter all these years, today we'll take her with us, and we'll also allow her to visit you often."

After that, the wealthy couple was about to leave with Isabella and Evelyn, I quickly stood up and held Evelyn's hand.

"It's okay, I'm also grateful to you for taking care of Evelyn all these years; I'll also allow her to visit you in the future."

The wealthy couple and Evelyn froze in expression.

I looked innocent: "You've taken your biological daughter, I'm keeping my biological daughter, isn't that right?"

03

Mrs. Grant looked embarrassed: "The Grant family has the best resources, the child will have a better future with us."

I pretended to suddenly realize: "So, the Grant family wants both daughters!"

Isabella wanted to say something, but I stopped her with my eyes.

She wanted to stay, but Mrs. Grant was right, the Grant family had the best resources, I couldn't let Isabella miss this opportunity.

A loving parent considers the long-term for their child.

Isabella had to go to the Grant family, and I had to provide her with the most solid support.

I forced out a few tears.

"Mrs. Grant, you've experienced the hardship of nurturing children and giving birth, can you bear to let both my children leave?"

"I know I have no money, but my love for them is no less than yours!"

Mrs. Grant's eyes flashed with guilt: "We'll give you five million as compensation, and also allow you to freely visit the Grant family."

I looked insulted, but quietly curled my lips inwardly.

What I wanted was the money.

If Isabella is not doing well in the Grant Family, I can take her back anytime. This money is her backup.

"Mrs. Grant, I've never spent a day with my biological daughter. Let her stay at my place for a week, so I can properly see her, and then I'll send her back to you."

A hint of hesitation flashed in Mrs. Grant's eyes, and I seized the opportunity.

"Just one week, you wouldn't be so unreasonable, would you?"

Mrs. Grant wavered and was about to agree when Evelyn's face turned pale.

She didn't want to live with her poor mother for a week; this week was crucial for her.

In the book, when Isabella first returned to the Grant Family, Evelyn overtly and covertly accused her of having no upbringing, being an outsider, making Isabella feel no sense of belonging to the Grant Family.

The Grant couple, in contrast with the elegant and well-mannered Evelyn, also had quite a few complaints about Isabella and became distant, laying the groundwork for Isabella's future exclusion.

I won't let what happened in the book happen again. Evelyn must leave the Grant Family for these few days, allowing Isabella to build a relationship with the Grants.

Seeing Evelyn about to make excuses, I hurriedly spoke first.

"Evelyn, I know I'm poor, unskilled, and can't compare with Isabella's wealthy biological parents. It's only right for you to look down on me."

"I'm not asking you to be with me, just to stay with Mom for a week, is that too much to ask?"

I looked at Evelyn with tearful eyes, full of heartbreak.

With the Grants present, she couldn't outright refuse me. She didn't want to bear the reputation of being an unfilial daughter or ruin her image in the eyes of the Grants.

After all, she's aiming to win their affection through her pure and sensible demeanor.

Evelyn's face grew stiff, and she forced a smile, "Ms. Saunders, what are you saying? How could I despise you? It's just..."

I didn't let her continue with her "just," excitedly saying, "Great, I knew you'd agree. You might as well stay, have your things sent over, and now I'll take you to see your room."

After speaking, I tightly grasped Evelyn's arm, pulling her inside, "Mr. and Mrs. Grant, rest assured, I'll take good care of Evelyn!"

04

An additional ten million dollars appeared in my account, transferred by the Grants.

They sent me a message, mostly instructing me to take good care of Evelyn, and mentioned changing Isabella's last name.

I agreed.

It's just a surname. If it can make Isabella's future better, what's the harm in changing it?

Evelyn looked displeased but had no choice. She angrily lay down in the guest room I had prepared for her.

As I passed by her room, I could vaguely hear her whining on the phone, complaining to her Grant parents.

"Mom, you have no idea what I ate tonight! Ms. Saunders didn't treat me well at all; there was no meat!"

"I know you gave her a lot of money, but she doesn't spend any on me!"

"You guys are still the best. When are you bringing your little darling back home?"

Evelyn's voice was soft, full of grievance, making one feel pity for her.

If I hadn't sent the Grants photos of dinner, they might have brought Evelyn back overnight.

Earlier, during dinner, I photographed a table full of well-balanced dishes, even including lobster and crab, and sent it, along with Evelyn happily eating, to them.

"Mr. and Mrs. Grant, thank you for the money. This is the first time our family has had such a sumptuous dinner in years. Isabella has never had seafood while with me."

"Seeing Evelyn enjoy the meal so much, my heart feels sweet. Now both my daughters can have a good life!"

There was a moment of silence on the other end. They couldn't believe their usually well-behaved daughter would slander her biological mother.

Yet, considering it as a little girl's tactic to seek favor, they didn't expose her, merely responding slightly indifferently:

"Stay with your Ms. Saunders for a week and spend more time with her. It's not easy for a single mother. We will bring you back after a week."

No matter what Evelyn said, the Grants didn't agree to take her back right away.

I returned to my room, feeling smug about my foresight.

At that moment, I received a call from Isabella.

"Mom, the Grant Family is really luxurious and big, and the Grant parents are very nice to me, but I still want to go home."

"Mom, have you... have you found a new daughter and don't want me anymore?"

I sensed the sadness in her words and patiently comforted her, "Isabella, why would you think that? You'll always be Mommy's little darling."

"I'm letting you stay with the Grants because I know they have better resources. As the Grant Family's eldest daughter, your path in the future will be much easier."

"I want you to have more choices and not live so hard."

I know too well how exhausting life is without money or connections.

As a single mom with a daughter, I've been bullied at work, always given the dirtiest and most tiring tasks, treated like a mule by my boss.

Because they know, I dare not resign; I have my daughter to support.

"Then why are you keeping Evelyn?"

There was a hint of jealousy in Isabella's tone.

"I'm keeping Evelyn so you can foster a good relationship with the Grant parents."

"Isabella, this is a major opportunity to change your destiny. You must seize it."

With that, I compressed and sent her the long-collected "True and False Daughters" document.

05

Early the next morning, the Grants' driver came to take Evelyn to school.

Isabella came along too; the Grants had already transferred her to Evelyn's school, a well-known international school.

Evelyn straightened her back, looking like a beautiful white swan, gracefully seating herself in the back of the Rolls-Royce.

Just as the driver was about to close the door, I stopped him and forcefully squeezed in.

Evelyn was taken aback and shouted impatiently, "What are you doing!"

I innocently blinked, "Today's Isabella's first day at school. I'm not at ease, so I want to go and see."

Evelyn's face changed, managing to pull out a smile, "Ms. Saunders, don't worry. I'll definitely take good care of sister Isabella, you still have to work, so you should stay behind."

"No worries, I resigned, and now that I have money, I want to start my own business."

I sneered inwardly; I won't give Evelyn a chance to harm Isabella.

In the book, to maintain her status as the only daughter of the wealthiest family, Evelyn spread rumors that Isabella was an illegitimate child.

In this international school where students are either rich or noble, the young masters and ladies despise illegitimate children the most.

With Evelyn's fanning the flames, Isabella was bullied in school, locked in toilets, slapped on the face, forced to drink toilet water, and her grades plummeted.

So, no matter how Evelyn persuaded me, I didn't get out of the car.

I want to give Isabella a fair and open opportunity.

At school, Evelyn and Isabella got out of the car together, surrounded by many curious classmates.

At this point, a classmate who got along quite well with Evelyn approached and pointed at Isabella, asking:

"Evelyn, who is she?"

Evelyn bit her lip, looking hesitant to speak, "She's... she's my... my sister, Isabella Grant."

The classmate widened their eyes in surprise.

"Your sister? When did the Grant Family gain another daughter?"

Evelyn feigned difficulty, biting her lip lightly, her gaze evasive.

"She's... just my sister! Recognized yesterday, please don't ask anymore."

A glint of tears flashed in Evelyn's eyes. Instantly, the classmates around started to look at Isabella differently.

Her insinuating yet seemingly clear words were implying that Isabella was an illegitimate child.

I frowned and suddenly stepped forward, grasping the classmate's hand, dramatically exclaiming.

"Are you a good friend of Evelyn's? Thank you for taking care of our Evelyn!"

The classmate, unable to ascertain the current situation, awkwardly greeted, "Auntie."

Evelyn seemed to realize what I was about to say, her expression changing as she tried to pull me away, but I had already opened my mouth.
