Chapter 2

I carefully packed my mother’s ashes and prepared to go home.

Seeing that I was alone, the cremation worker asked in confusion, “Where is your husband? For something this serious, why is he not here with you?”

I lowered my head and glanced at my phone.

[I am taking Olivia to the seaside. I’ll be back later.]

A bitter smile tugged at my lips.

I had suggested going to the seaside many times before, but he always refused, saying he had migraines.

He would ask me never to bring up going to the seaside. He claimed that hearing about it gave him a headache.

Then, I checked social media. Olivia had posted nine photos of a new car.

[10,000,000 dollars. Instant purchase.]

Not a cent more, not a cent less. It was exactly the amount of my mother’s insurance payout.

I calmly turned off my phone. My heart was completely numb.

That night, Jason did not come home.

Early the next morning, I brought the divorce agreement to his company.

The receptionist saw me, sneered, and said, “Is that not the former VP who tried to scam Miss Olivia? You’ve already been fired, so why are you here causing trouble?

“Be careful. If you upset Miss Olivia again, Mr. Langley might just divorce you.”

I did not bother responding and walked straight into Jason’s office.

I had just placed the agreement into the drawer when Olivia pushed the door open and began mocking me.

She said, “Trying to steal from the company after getting fired? Who allowed you into his office? Get out, or I’ll call the police.”

I was already used to her two-faced behavior. I put the document away and turned to leave.

Seeing that I ignored her, her face darkened. She grabbed a vase and smashed it against my head.

Blood instantly began streaming from the back of my head. My vision spun, but I forced myself to stay upright and shouted, “Are you insane? Do you really want to kill someone right here in the office?”

She sneered, “So what if I do? I am the exception to all rules.”

I gritted my teeth and tried to run, but she tripped me. I fell face-first and broke two of my front teeth.

Seeing that my mouth was covered in blood, she burst out laughing and called the employees over to watch.

Everyone held back laughter, mocking my broken teeth. I covered my mouth.

“Stop looking! Call an ambulance!”

At that moment, Jason pushed through the crowd and ran toward me.
