Chapter 9

ANIKA'S POV:-

I smiled lazily as I felt Adam on top of me. I was lying on my stomach and he laid on top. He removed my hair from my shoulders and pecked my bare shoulders one after another. "Wake up, baby girl. Today is a big day for you. You don't want to be late today." He whispered in my ear then pecked my cheek.

"Emhhh… please.. let me sleep. Five more minutes." I said lazily and hid my face under my arms. He grabbed both of my arms and held them behind my back. I made a lazy whimper sound when he grabbed both of my arms.

"You are opening your eyes right now, baby girl. Or you will be in trouble." He threatened me and I groaned in annoyance. He pecked my cheek again as I opened my eyes.

"Now that's my good girl." He said and pulled me onto his lap. I wrapped my arms around his neck and snuggled into his huge figure. I inhaled the original scent of his body and suddenly I felt something. I opened my eyes and arched my back.

"Oh my God! No way. Baby girl, you are shifting for the first time. Let it go. I am here with you." He said as his eyes glowed in orange colour. Hinting that his Wolf was there to help me. His fangs grew bigger and his fingers were changed with the sharp claws of his wolf.

"Adam, it hurts." I cried in pain as I felt my bones breaking them readjusting themselves. He cupped my face and pecked my forehead.

"It's okay, baby girl. Let it go. You are shifting." He said as he held my hand. I did not stop it. As he said, just let it go. I could feel my Wolf, scratched my inside walls, ready to leash out. My hands and feet shifted with my wolf's paws and my fangs grew bigger. I screamed in pain as I felt like I was being pulled. I shut my eyes for a few seconds. Then I opened my eyes again and found myself in front of a beautiful she Wolf.

Her fur was pure white as the thick clouds of fog. And her eyes were shining blue, like two stars. Like me she had a scar. While mine was pinkish and looked hideous on my face. Her scar was covered with the silver fur that looked breathtaking when it glowed. Her tail was long and more puffy than any other wolf's tail. And her legs were long as well. She had a silver moon on her forehead, as the signature of being the honour of the Alpha.

I went towards her and she sat on the ground. I raised my hand to touch her scar and she did the same with her paw. I caressed her silver fur where her scar was and she did the same to me. "You are the most gorgeous wolf I have ever seen in my life. What's your name?" I said as I touched her fur. She leaned over and licked my scar to show her love to me. I went closer to her and both hugged each other.

"I am Aura. And I am beautiful because you are beautiful too." She said and we both stayed like this for a while. When I opened my eyes again, we had switched places.

"Anika! Can you hear me, baby girl?" Adam's voice pulled me back up. I looked around and found myself still in his arms. I jumped off of his lap and went towards the mirror. I admired the pure beauty as her white fur was more shiny as the rays of the sun touched her moonlight fur. Adam came from behind and lightly rubbed his knuckles with her fur. He knelt down beside her and touched her scar. Aura growled at him and he chuckled.

"You need to get in control, baby girl. You don't want to be late on your first training day, Alpha's pride." He reminded me and I started to panic. It was my first time and I did not know how to shift back. Seeing me panicking over the shift, Adam chuckled again.

"Just relax, baby girl. You need to calm down. Close your eyes and imagine yourself back into your human form. That is how we switch places." He said while patting Aura's head. I did as he had told me. Shut my eyes and pictured myself back in my place. When I opened my eyes again, I screamed at the top of my lungs. I was standing naked in front of the mirror with Adam right beside me.

I wrapped an arm around my breasts and with the other, I hid my private part. He chuckled and grabbed the sheets of the bed. He covered my naked body with the sheets. Then he turned me around to face him and cupped my face. "It's okay, baby girl. Now, go and get ready. I am waiting for you downstairs. Don't be late." He said and pecked my forehead. Smiling to himself, he stepped out of the room. I sighed in relief and made my way towards the bathroom.

After a quick shower, I changed into a pair of skinny jeans and a tank top. I wore my workout shoes and tied my long in a high ponytail. I looked at myself one last time before I stepped out of the room. I went downstairs and entered the dining hall. I looked around but Adam was not around. I sighed and made my way towards my chair. As soon as I started walking towards my chair, I felt uneasy. As if something was fishy.

Adam came out of the kitchen and took his seat. My seat was right beside him. He was busy scrolling through his phone. I reached the chair but froze as I heard Aura. "Anny, don't sit. Skylar put something on your chair. She wants to ruin our perfect day." She said and I gritted my teeth. As I saw a satisfied smile on her face, an idea popped up into my mind.

I pulled the chair out as I always did. Like always, I went towards Adam to hop onto my chair. As she thought she was about to destroy my day, I sat on Adam's lap instead of sitting on my chair. I looked into her eyes with a satisfied smile on my face and to add more spice, Aura winked at her.

ALPHA CALEB'S POV:-

I opened my eyes and found myself standing in the same Forest I used to play with Anny. My eyes welled up with tears as I made my way straight towards the lake. I remembered how much she loved that lake. She always went to the lake wherever I was late. I went there and there she was. Sitting by the lake side, playing with the water. A soft giggle made its way to my ears and I growled under my chest. Even though she had died a long time ago, she still had some sort of effect on me.

Not after her death, but a little later. I used to see her and feel her around me. She was the reason why I had gotten enough courage to get my people out of that hell hole. She encouraged me and believed in me. She never left me. Until one day, she just disappeared. I tried to call her. I even went to her grave and asked her to come back. But she never came back. The day we all escaped that hell, she was gone. It was painful for me to let her go. But after all that long, she was sitting in front of me.

I went towards her and she stood up. She looked older than I used to see her. But younger than I was thinking about her to be. I gently grabbed her arm and turned her around. I gasped as I saw a scar on her face. I had never seen that scar on her face. It was covering most of her right cheek and there neck. She gulped hard and backed away a little. But I caught her before she would have gone away. I cupped her face with both of my hands and stared into her eyes. Both of my thumbs were caressing her soft cheek. I dipped my head in and pecked her right cheek, to tell her that she looked stunning even with that scar on her face. Just with that, she wrapped her arms around me and hugged me tightly. I chuckled and did the same to her.

I smoothed down the silver ceremonial dress one last time, my fingers trembling slightly against the simple fabric. It wasn't the elaborate gown that Sophia would likely wear, but it was the best I had—a hand-me-down from my mother's youth, carefully preserved for special occasions. Today was certainly special. Today, Alexander would finally announce our courtship to the allied packs. "You look beautiful, Luna," Rose whispered from her bed, her voice thin but her smile radiant. At thirteen, my sister's wolf-sickness had left her too weak to attend the ceremony, another cruel reminder of our family's fallen status. "I wish you could come with me," I said, sitting beside her on the bed. I pulled out the small leather pouch of protective charms I'd gathered—tiny moonstone beads, dried wolfsbane flowers, and silver thread. "Then I'll be there in spirit." Rose turned, presenting her back to me. "Braid them in?" I worked the charms into her hair with practiced fingers, weaving protection and love into each strand.

My birthday had never been a big deal to Marcus, but eight years together had taught me to create my own joy. I'd left work early, planning to surprise him with the dinner reservation I'd made at Crystal Moon, the upscale restaurant in the neighboring pack's territory. I hummed softly, fingering the mate mark bracelet on my wrist—a silver band with our initials entwined that Marcus had given me when we completed our mate ceremony. The memory made my heart flutter, though the flutter wasn't as strong as it once was. My wolf had been unusually quiet lately, something I attributed to stress from my job at the pack's community center. "He'll be so surprised," I whispered to myself as I pulled into our driveway. The pack house was quiet this afternoon, most members at work or training. Perfect timing. I slipped my key into the lock, careful to be silent.
