His Ninety Ninth Betrayal
Chapter 1
I had been with Leo Moretti, the heir to the Moretti family, for ten years. For the ninety-eighth time, I asked to be formally introduced to his family.
But every single time, his adoptive sister, Rosalie, found a reason to interrupt.
The ninety-ninth time, he kicked open our apartment door, carrying Rosalie, who was clutching an injured arm.
"Elena, I told you, meeting my family is a matter of time. Rosalie just got back to Chicago and she's still settling in. Why are you harassing her? You even hired people to attack her!"
He gripped Rosalie's hand and slapped me across the face.
"Rosalie, you remember this. Whoever hurts you, you pay them back double!"
I clutched my swollen, red cheek and said nothing, watching the intimate picture they made as they left.
From the open line on my phone, a man’s contemptuous taunt echoed.
"Elena, I told you. Only I am worthy of you."

"Come back to me before you marry him."
"In a week, I'll send a car to bring you back to the estate."
I lowered my gaze at his words and hung up the phone.
Moments after Leo and Rosalie left, a group of men appeared at the door.
"Heh. Leo's a real piece of work, willing to let us have some fun with his own woman."
"Yeah, well, we're the ones who saved Rosalie. He adores that Principessa of his. What's one woman to him, especially one he can replace anytime?"
My heart pounded as I listened to their vile words.
"Leo sent you? What do you want?!"
"Nothing much. Just want you to keep us entertained."
My blood boiled.
The moment one of them touched me, I kicked him squarely between the legs.
"Fucking bitch! You dare to fight back."
But they had underestimated my strength. I grabbed the letter opener from the table and plunged it into another man's thigh.
They were all stunned. "Didn't they say she was just some kept woman?!"
I sneered, holding the blade to their leader's neck. "Crawl back to whoever sent you."
The men were terrified, scrambling away in a panic.
The room fell quiet. I stared at an inconspicuous ornament in the corner of the living room, then kicked open the door to the apartment next door.
On the living room TV, the entire incident had been broadcast live.
I trembled with rage.
So that was it. Leo had moved Rosalie right into the apartment next door.
No wonder he was always leaving early and coming home late.
On the sofa, Rosalie was snuggled into Leo's arms as if she belonged there.
"Leo, what the hell is this?!"
