His Mistress Humiliated Me Before I Married a Billionaire

For a decade, I gave Bryan Woods my heart, and on our anniversary I planned to give him my future. I chose the Italian bistro where our story began, a platinum ring hidden in my pocket and a promise letter rehearsed to perfection. But when his mistress appeared, she turned my romantic proposal into a spectacle of shame. Now, with a billionaire offering me a new life and my pride shattered, I’m determined to craft a different ending—one where Bryan watches everything he values slip away.

Chapter 1

Ten years. That was how long I gave Bryan Woods.

On our anniversary, I booked a corner table at the Italian bistro where we had our very first date. My fingers trembled under the tablecloth. Inside my coat pocket was a small velvet box with a simple platinum band. I had worked extra design gigs for six months to buy it. Next to the box was a folded letter, filled with words I spent days rehearsing.

When the waiter cleared our dessert plates, I took a deep breath. I set the box on the white linen between us.

"Bryan," I began, my voice wavering slightly. "We've built so much together. Will you marry me?"

Bryan didn’t reach for the box. He didn't smile. He just stared at the ring, his eyebrows pulling down in disgust. Then, he let out a sharp, mocking bark of laughter.

He swiveled in his chair, waving to his buddies sitting by the bar.

"Hey, guys, look at this!" Bryan called out, loud enough for half the dining room to hear. "She actually thought I’d say yes. That's pathetic."

A loud burst of laughter came from the bar. The sound hit me right in the ribs like a physical blow. Heat rushed to my ears, but my chest went completely numb and cold. I didn't yell. I didn't cry. I quietly picked up my purse, stood up, and walked out into the damp Seattle night.

I went straight to Bryan’s apartment to get my clothes. My hands didn't shake anymore.

I hauled my old suitcase out of the closet. That was when I saw it. A tangled scrap of black lace underwear was draped carelessly across his pillow. It wasn't mine.

Right next to it, his phone screen lit up on the nightstand.

A new message from Sasha Salazar glowed in the dim room: *Last night was perfect.*

I stared at the letters until the screen faded to black. I didn't shed a single tear. Ten years of cooking his dinners, quietly covering his rent, and shrinking myself so he could feel like a giant. It all died in an instant.

I took my spare key off my ring and set it on the kitchen island. I packed one suitcase, blocked his number, and booked a one-way red-eye flight to New York City.

I found out later how his next day went. Bryan woke up alone, rolled his eyes, and figured I was just throwing a childish tantrum. He texted Sasha instead of calling me. He bragged to his friends that I’d be crawling back on my knees within a week.

He was still wearing that smug smile that evening at an upscale steakhouse during a client dinner.

Then, the big flat-screen mounted on the wall switched over to a breaking Bloomberg segment.

The anchor's voice rang through the restaurant: *"Pierce Industries confirms the return of sole heiress Hazel Pierce to the family empire, alongside news of her engagement to Maverick Foster, CEO of Foster Capital."*

My professional headshot filled the entire display.

Bryan froze. His wine glass slipped straight through his fingers, shattering across the polished floor with a loud crack. The quiet woman who washed his laundry was worth more than his family could make in three lifetimes.

My flight touched down at JFK right at dawn.

The terminal smelled of stale coffee, but the second I cleared the exit doors, I saw the neon-pink poster: *WELCOME HOME, QUEEN.*

Birdie, Kamryn, and Luciana were practically jumping up and down, waving plastic cups of cheap champagne. Birdie crashed into me first, wrapping her arms around my neck so hard I gasped.

"Look at you!" Birdie yelled, laughing through her tears. "You're finally back!"

Luciana shoved a cup into my hand while Kamryn grabbed my heavy suitcase. We drank right there on the curb, laughing like teenagers, before piling into a waiting black limousine.

By evening, I stood outside the heavy oak doors of my family's Upper East Side penthouse. My chest tightened up. It had been a whole decade since I walked away from everything I was born into.

The door opened with a soft click. My mother, Theodora, stood in the warm entryway.

She didn't cross her arms. She didn't lecture me. She didn't say, *We told you so.* She just stepped forward, wrapped her arms around my shoulders, and pulled me in tight.

"You're home," she whispered against my cheek. "That's all that matters."

The armor I wore for twenty-four hours snapped. I buried my face in her shoulder and let the tears come.

The next morning, sunlight poured across the wide hardwood floors.

I walked down the long corridor toward the kitchen and froze. Hanging along the pristine white walls were dozens of gold frames. Every single freelance design sketch I had mailed to Mom from Seattle over the years was up on display. She had saved every scrap. She had been proud of me all along.

I stood there, staring, unable to speak for a long minute.

"Hazel."

My father, Neil, stood at the open door of his private study. He gestured for me to come inside.

I walked in and took a seat across from his heavy mahogany desk. Dad was never a man of long speeches. He tapped the screen of his tablet, slid it over to my side, and pointed with a blunt finger.

A notification from my bank account sat on the screen. A fresh wire transfer of thirty million dollars. It was the engagement gift from the Foster family.

"This is yours," my father said quietly. His gaze was steady, calm, and unshakable. "Your safety net. No matter what happens, Hazel, you will never depend on anyone again."

I traced my fingers over the edge of the cold glass tablet. For the first time in ten years, I could finally breathe.
