Chapter 2

"Let go of me, Julian." Nora's voice was a strained whisper as he pulled her toward the very restroom he'd just exited. "Someone will see."

"Let them," he said, his voice a low growl. He pushed her inside and the heavy door clicked shut behind them, the lock engaging with a final, damning thud. The small space felt airless, charged with a tension that made her skin prickle.

He didn't release her. Instead, he spun her around and slammed her back against the cold, unyielding surface of the marble vanity. The mirror reflected a scene of raw confrontation: his powerful frame caging her smaller one, his face a mask of cold fury, hers a pale oval of defiance.

Then his mouth was on hers.

It wasn't a kiss. It was a punishment, an invasion. His lips were hard, demanding, tasting of expensive whiskey and a lingering trace of Mila's lipstick. It was a brutal claiming, meant to humiliate, to remind her of her place. Nora struggled for a moment, her hands pushing uselessly against the solid wall of his chest, but the disparity in their strength was laughable.

His hand slid from her wrist, moving with infuriating confidence to the top button of her uniform blouse. The moment his fingers brushed the fabric over her collarbone, a primal fear shot through her, sharp and clarifying.

She bit down. Hard.

The coppery taste of blood filled her mouth. Julian recoiled with a hiss of pain, his hand flying to his lip. In that split second of surprise, Nora shoved him away, stumbling back until her legs hit the toilet. She was breathing heavily, her chest heaving.

"Our agreement does not include this!" she gasped, her voice shaking with a mixture of rage and fear.

Julian touched his lip, his fingers coming away stained with a smear of red. A slow, cold smile spread across his face, a terrifying sight that held no humor at all. "The agreement?" he repeated, his voice dangerously soft. "Nora, don't forget how you begged me to sign it. How you stood in my office and promised you'd do anything if I'd just stop your family's company from filing for bankruptcy."

He took a step forward, invading her space again. He leaned down, his eyes boring into hers. "The rules have changed. I am your husband. You will start acting like it."

Her defiance evaporated, replaced by cold, hard calculation. Fighting him was pointless. He was stronger, more powerful, and he had just proven he was willing to ignore every rule they'd ever had. She had to find another way.

She forced her rigid body to relax. Her breathing slowed. She looked up at him, not with fear, but with a practiced doe-eyed gaze she hadn't used in years. She slowly raised her hands, not to push him away, but to circle them around his neck.

"I remember," she murmured, her voice dropping to a husky, submissive tone. "I'm sorry... husband."

The sudden shift in her demeanor caught him off guard. His body remained tense, but the murderous look in his eyes softened to mere suspicion. "You're a good actress," he sneered, though his hands didn't push her away.

Nora pressed her advantage. Her fingers traced the lapel of his suit jacket. "But my uniform is a mess," she pouted, gesturing to her slightly rumpled collar. "I still have a flight to command."

She let her eyes drift pointedly toward the door. "And if my crew sees me coming out of a locked restroom with you like this... what will they think of the CEO of Sinclair Global Air?"

She had weaponized his own obsession: his company's reputation. She felt the subtle shift in his posture, the slight withdrawal. His jaw tightened. He hated that she was right.

With a final, contemptuous look, he stepped back, giving her room to breathe.

Nora didn't waste a second. She smoothed her blouse, tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear, and unlocked the door. She walked out without looking back, her steps quick and purposeful, a prey animal escaping the jaws of a predator.

Her phone vibrated in her pocket as she reached the bustling terminal again. She pulled it out, her hands still trembling slightly.

A new message from an unsaved number she knew by heart.

Sinclair Estate for dinner tonight. 7 PM. As my wife.
