His Family's Secret, Her Vengeful Rise Novel Cover

His Family's Secret, Her Vengeful Rise

At my engagement party, I exposed my fiancé, Kenton, for being in love with his father' s fiancée. I thought I was finally free. Instead, his powerful family had me abducted. For daring to reveal their dirty secret, I was beaten and humiliated. Kenton, the man I loved, stood by as his father struck me across the face for speaking the truth about his own son. He watched as they dragged me away for "corrective measures" and later burned down my late mother's cherished home, turning the last piece of her I had into ash. They called me hysterical and volatile, painting me as the villain in a story of their own making. I was the one who was betrayed, yet I was the one being punished, broken, and left with nothing. Just as I hit rock bottom, my mysterious uncle, a powerful European banker I barely knew, rescued me. He looked at my bruises, listened to my story, and asked me one simple question. "What do you want?" I told him I wanted revenge. And he smiled.

Chapter 1

Aurora Rodriguez POV:

"I am not marrying you, Kenton." The words cut through the hushed silence of the ballroom, sharper than any diamond on my finger – a diamond I no longer wanted. I ripped the engagement ring off, the heavy platinum cold against my skin, and hurled it across the polished marble floor. It skittered, a glittering projectile of broken promises, coming to rest at the feet of Kenton Bruce, the man I was supposed to marry in two weeks. His face, usually a mask of aristocratic calm, fractured. Good. Let him feel something.

The air in the grand ballroom of the Pierre Hotel thickened with scandal. Whispers, like venomous snakes, began to coil through the crowd of New York City' s elite. My parents, or rather, my father and his current trophy wife, looked ready to melt into the expensive wallpaper. Kenton' s family, the formidable Bruces, appeared as if I had just declared war on their media empire. Perhaps I had.

"Aurora, what is the meaning of this?" Kenton's voice was low, laced with a dangerous calm that always preceded a storm. He picked up the ring, his thumb tracing the emerald-cut diamond.

"The meaning, Kenton darling," I purred, stepping closer, my voice carrying just enough to ensure everyone within earshot heard, "is that I don' t marry men who are in love with their father' s fiancée."

A collective gasp rippled through the room. Celestine Calhoun, Kenton' s father' s stunning, manipulative fiancée, clutched her champagne flute, her carefully constructed façade of sophisticated innocence cracking. Her eyes, usually so serene, darted between Kenton and me, a flicker of panic in their depths. Kenton' s gaze, however, was fixed solely on me, burning with a mixture of betrayal and something else I couldn't quite decipher.

"You' re hysterical," he stated, his voice a low growl now. "Let's discuss this privately." He reached for my arm, his touch usually possessive, now felt like a brand.

I recoiled as if burned. "Hysterical? No, Kenton. Enlightened. And there's nothing to discuss privately. Your sordid little secret is now public. Enjoy the show." I gestured grandly to the gaping crowd. This wasn't just about me anymore. This was for every woman he had ever dismissed, every secret he thought he could bury.

He dropped his hand, his jaw tight. "You will regret this, Aurora. Terribly."

I laughed, a sharp, brittle sound that didn't quite reach my eyes. "Regret? I regret ever believing you. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a wedding to un-plan, and a life to reclaim." I turned on my heel, my ridiculously expensive gown swishing around me like a defiant flag. The whispers followed me, a symphony of judgment and morbid curiosity. Let them talk. Tonight, I was free. Tomorrow, the real war would begin.
