His Discarded Luna, the Rival's Obsession Novel Cover

His Discarded Luna, the Rival's Obsession

For four years, Eira Crawford lived as Sebastian Vale's secret mate—a wolfless Omega from an orphanage, kept on a monthly allowance and treated like a servant by his family. He never named her Luna. Then she overheard him promise that title to his first love, backed by a casual $300,000 in research funding. So Eira stopped crying. She recorded the affair, filed for mate dissolution, and served divorce papers. Sebastian signed, certain she'd crawl back. He didn't know the woman washing his dishes was a Stanford-trained electrical engineer and the hidden chief engineer of a classified national chip project. Now Killian Sterling, the coldest Alpha in the north, has claimed her—and publicly declared that Eira is no one's discarded Omega.

Chapter 2

By morning, the city looked ordinary again.

That felt almost insulting.

Cars moved through intersections. Office workers bought coffee. A woman in a red coat laughed into her phone as if the world had not split open the night before.

Eira sat in the back of a taxi with her black folder on her knees and watched sunlight slide over Hale Tower's glass walls.

The building still stood. The sky had not cracked. Alpha Sebastian Hale had not been struck by lightning for calling his wife a tool.

Apparently betrayal did not disturb public infrastructure.

At eight sharp, Susan's email arrived. The subject line was simple: Formal Mate Separation Agreement - Confidential Draft.

Eira opened it on her phone and read the first page without blinking.

The language was clean, bloodless, and almost elegant in its cruelty.

Termination of spousal obligations.

Withdrawal of Luna status from Hale Pack records. Separation of assets. Severance of domestic authority. No future duty of care.

Four years of marriage, translated into clauses and signature lines.

Good, Eira thought.

Feelings had made her weak. Paper would make her free.

She asked for a day off from the lab, then went back to the apartment she had shared with Alpha Sebastian for four years.

Calling it home suddenly felt like lying.

The place was quiet when she entered, the kind of quiet expensive buildings sold as luxury.

The refrigerator hummed. Sunlight fell across the living room floor. A pair of Alpha Sebastian's shoes stood by the entrance, polished and arrogant.

Eira looked at them for one second too long, then walked past.

Packing took less time than it should have.

Her clothes occupied less than half of one closet. The rest belonged to Alpha Sebastian: suits arranged by color, shirts folded with military precision, watches in velvet boxes, ties he had worn to dinners where she sat beside him and pretended not to hear his relatives whisper.

Eira took out her own dresses, jeans, lab blouses, and the few sweaters she had bought with her own salary. She folded each piece carefully and placed them into cardboard boxes.

In the bathroom, her face cream and toothbrush were pushed into a corner. Alpha Sebastian's expensive grooming bottles took up most of the counter. She packed her small things into a toiletry bag and almost laughed.

Four years, and her life fit into two boxes and one suitcase.

The delivery service confirmed pickup for the afternoon. The boxes would go to her small apartment on the other side of the city, the one she had bought with her first year's pay from the Research Institute before she married Alpha Sebastian. Thirty-five square meters. Old heating. Bad view. Hers.

The word felt strange.

Hers.

She showered after the movers left. Hot water beat against the back of her neck until her skin turned pink, but it could not wash away the memory of cedar mixed with flowers. When she stepped out, she put on a thin slip dress because most of her clothes were already gone. Her hair dripped down her shoulders as she plugged in the hairdryer.

The front door opened.

Eira saw Alpha Sebastian in the mirror before she turned. He stopped at the bedroom entrance, one hand still on the doorframe. He wore a dark suit, his tie loosened, his expression unreadable. His gaze moved over the suitcase near the wall, then over her wet hair, bare shoulders, and the hem of her dress.

"Eira."

He said her name low, almost carefully.

She picked up the hairdryer and turned it on. Warm air roared between them. The sound filled the room, simple and mechanical. Safe.

He did not like being ignored. She saw that in the mirror. His jaw tightened first, then his eyes grew cold. Still, he came closer. The scent of cedar followed him, and beneath it she thought she caught the faintest trace of floral sweetness. Maybe it was real. Maybe her mind was cruel enough to invent it.

His hand reached around her waist.

The hairdryer stopped. He had pulled the plug from the wall.

Eira went very still.

Alpha Sebastian leaned down as if to kiss her. She turned her head at the last second, and his mouth landed near her ear instead of her lips.

Silence dropped heavily into the room.

"You're avoiding me?" he asked.

She met his eyes in the mirror. "Yes."

For a moment, he looked genuinely confused. In four years, she had never said that word to him in that tone. She had adjusted. Smoothed things over. Made excuses. Loved quietly enough not to bother him.

His fingers closed around her chin, turning her face toward him. "You were the one who wanted me to touch you before."

Her fingertips curled against the counter. "Before was before."

"And now?" His voice sharpened. "Now I touch you once, and you dodge?"

She said nothing.

His expression changed. Suspicion entered his eyes, ugly and fast. "Is there someone else?"

Eira stared at him.

He had returned to their marriage carrying another woman's scent. He had called her harmless, useful, a tool. He had promised his heir to Serena. Yet his first thought was that Eira had betrayed him.

The unfairness was so complete it almost became funny.

"That question," she said, "is not yours to ask me."

The last trace of patience disappeared from Alpha Sebastian's face. His Alpha scent surged, cedar turning sharp and heavy. It filled the room like an invisible net, pushing against her lungs, demanding obedience from instincts she did not have. A wolfless body could still feel Alpha pressure, but it did not bow the same way. There was no wolf inside her to roll over.

So Eira only looked at him.

That seemed to provoke him more than screaming would have.

"Don't use that tone with me."

Before she could step back, he grabbed her wrist and dragged her toward the bedroom.

"Sebastian-"

The door hit the wall with a dull crack. He pushed her onto the bed and came down over her. This was not love. It was not regret. It was not a husband finally reaching for his wife after years of restraint.

It was possession trying to prove it still owned what was walking away.

Panic flashed white behind Eira's eyes, but rage came faster. She bent her knee and kicked upward with all the strength in her body. Alpha Sebastian grunted, his grip loosening for half a breath. She twisted free, pushed herself up, and slapped him across the face.

Crack.

The sound was bright and clean.

His head turned with the force of it.

For one second, neither of them moved.

Then his hand swung back.

Pain exploded across her cheek. Her head snapped to the side, and iron filled her mouth. The room tilted. She did not cry out, but tears spilled anyway, hot and humiliating.

Alpha Sebastian froze as if the sight of her tears had finally reached a part of him that his own violence had not.

"Eira, I-"

She did not let him finish.

She grabbed the blanket from the foot of the bed, wrapped it around herself, snatched up her phone and ID, and walked out barefoot. His voice followed her once, then stopped. Maybe pride held him back. Maybe guilt did. Maybe he simply could not imagine she would actually leave.

The elevator doors closed before he decided.

Eira walked ten minutes through the cold evening streets. Her feet stung against the pavement. A man outside a convenience store stared at the blanket around her shoulders and the red mark on her face. She kept walking. If she lowered her head, she would cry harder, and she refused to give strangers that much of herself.

A hotel appeared on the corner, silver-gray and bright against the dark street.

Sterling Hotel.

She knew the name. Everyone did. Sterling Group owned hotels, resorts, and half the luxury properties powerful Packs used when they wanted to pretend business meetings were vacations.

Eira stepped into the lobby.

The front desk clerk looked up. His eyes moved over her wet hair, blanket, bare feet, and swollen cheek. To his credit, he did not ask the wrong questions.

"One room," Eira said. Her voice sounded rough. "One night."

He checked her in quickly. "Room 1806. The elevator is on your right. If you need medical assistance or security, dial zero."

"Thank you."

She took the key card and walked to the elevator. The doors were almost closed when a hand stopped them.

They opened again.

A man stood outside.

Tall. Dark shirt with the sleeves rolled up. Black hair, calm posture, and eyes the color of a frozen lake. His gaze touched her face, her wrists, her bare feet. He saw everything. He did not stare long enough to make it worse.

He stepped inside and stood beside her, leaving more space than the elevator required.

His scent was controlled, but the small space carried a trace of it to her anyway. Mint. Cold. Clean. Like leaves crushed in ice.

The elevator did not move. Eira realized she had not pressed a floor.

"Which floor?" he asked.

"Eighteenth."

He swiped a black card, then pressed the button. The elevator rose smoothly.

Eira held her key card tightly. Her cheek throbbed. The stranger did not ask who had hit her. He did not offer pity. He did not crowd her with his body or his scent. He simply stood there, still as stone, and somehow the silence felt less dangerous than any comfort Alpha Sebastian had ever given her.

Ding.

The eighteenth floor opened. Eira stepped out. "Thank you."

"You're welcome."

She did not look back.

In room 1806, she locked the door, put the chain on, and stood there until her breathing slowed. The room was clean and anonymous: white bed, gray curtains, desk, lamp, bottled water she had not paid for yet. No cedar. No floral scent. No shoes by the door.

She sat on the edge of the bed and pressed her palm against her bruised cheek.

Then the doorbell rang.

Eira went still.

If Alpha Sebastian had found her, she would not run this time.

Her eyes moved to the glass water bottle on the desk. Slowly, she picked it up by the neck and walked toward the door.
