Chapter 3

"I won't sign it, Liam." She said.

"Are you dumb, Alexa? Don't you see there's nothing for us in this marriage? We just keep on tying ourselves in this shackles of misery we call a marriage, Alexa. If you are wise, you'll sign this papers immediately." He said.

"What's the reason?" She asked as she got up slowly, to face him. She was biting her lips inside to stop herself from shedding tears in front of him.

Liam sighed slowly as he pocketed his hands in his suit trousers.

"I met Stella." He said and at that moment, her world broke down.

"What?" She gasped, blinking rapidly as tears rushed out of her eyes. Stella was his ex girlfriend who had cheated on him with another guy three years ago. She could remember clearly how Liam felt heartbroken and how she had helped him get over it which led to their relationship.

She gasped again as she couldn't believe her ears, though she heard it clearly. The most painful part was that she wasn't asking him what brought about the divorce but he had just exposed everything. It was as if she knew it would later end in a divorce but she wanted to fool herself, believing she could change the situation.

"I wasn't asking what led to the divorce, Liam..." She said, her voice shaky.

"I was asking why you wished me a happy birthday yesterday."

Liam blinked slowly as he stared at her.

"I was also asking why you made love to me."

"I was asking why you...." She stared at him right in the eyes this time around.

".. why you broke your promises to love me forever. I wanted to know where we went wrong. When you lost your feelings for me..when you decided it was over between us...when you stopped trying to work on this marriage..when you.." Her throat was clogged with moans of tears and she couldn't speak any further as her tears rushed out in large torrents.

"But it was all because you met Stella." She sighed slowly as she cleaned her tears, licking her lips afterwards.

"Liam, did you ever love me?" She asked.

Liam looked away immediately and bit his lips slowly before looking back at her.

"That's doesn't matter, Alexa. The point is we can't work anymore."

"I can make us work, Liam..."

"Alexa, open your eyes!" He shouted and she moved back a little, shocked by his sudden outburst.

"I don't love you, okay?"

"I don't love you! So for the sake of peace, sign those papers." He said.

Alexa shook her head slowly.

"I won't." She muttered, her voice was shaky as she spoke.

"I'll give you six hours." He ended the conversation, leaving the papers with her as he walked out.

"No, Liam." Alexa rushed after him but stopped when the door was banged directly at her face.

"Liam!!" She shook her head again and fixed her fingers into her hair, picking her phone.

"Mom, please.. please I need you here..." She whispered on the phone call.

"Alexa, are you alright?" Louisa asked.

"I'm not alright, mom. I can't...breathe.." Her words were cut short as darkness suddenly clouded her eyes and she fell on the floor immediately.

Hearing the sound of her daughter falling, Louisa panicked immediately.

"Alexa!"

"Alexandra!!"

*~*~*~

Alexandra opened her eyes slowly to see the white ceiling above her. Her head was banging seriously as she tried to remember what happened.

She groaned slightly as she sat up slowly on the bed, running her eyes round the room. She could see that she was in the hospital, it smelt like it and looked like it too. She could also hear the beeping sound from the monitor and could see the drip connected to her wrist.

"What happened?" She muttered and suddenly the memories rushed into her brain immediately.

Tears immediately clouded her eyes as she remembered all the events that happened in just a day. How unluckier could her day just get?

She sighed slowly as she fisted her hands and bit her lips tightly. Liam had betrayed her. He had hurt her badly and she was never going to forgive him unless....unless he decided to drop the divorce. If he did, she could show him they still had a chance to change everything. She could prove to him that Stella that wasn't the one for him, she could show him the truth.

She saw her mother enter the room and fresh tears rushed down her eyes. She once used to explain things to her mother and even Liam's parents but when she felt she was burdening them too much, she stopped and started pretending as if everything was okay. Now she had a lot of bottled up feelings, emotions and stories she couldn't even explain.

Louisa sighed as she hugged her daughter tightly and patted her back. She had rushed to the house after getting a call from Alexandra and had found her lying on the floor in unconsciousness.

After taking her into the hospital, the doctor had run some tests on her which she had just gone to get the results, only to find her crying here again when she got back.

"What's wrong, Alexa?" She asked after Alexandra calmed down a bit.

"Mom..." Alexa called slowly and her mother looked at her lovingly, placing her palm on her hair.

"You can speak to me, baby. What's wrong?" She asked and Alexa's lips shook as she started.

"I'm going to divorce Liam." She said. Louisa's eyes widened as Alexa dropped the bomb.

"What? Alexa, why would you say such a thing?" Her hands left Alexa's body immediately.

"Liam wants a divorce, mom. He's with Stella, his ex girlfriend." She said and Louisa sighed slowly.

"How could he..." She started but stopped, seeing how devastated Alexa looked.

"You can't divorce him, Alexa. I know how much you love him." She said slowly.

"But mom..."

"And definitely, not in this condition." Louisa interrupted.

"What condition, mum?" She asked.

"You know it, Alexa. When were you going to tell me you were two months pregnant?" Louisa asked.

"Me?" Alexa pointed to herself in shock.

"I'm pregnant?"

I arrived at Le Beau Monde an hour early, my heels clicking against the polished marble floor as I made my way through the restaurant's main dining area. The maître d' recognized me immediately, his practiced smile warming as I approached. "Mrs. Sterling, welcome. The private dining room is prepared as requested." "Thank you, Antoine. I'd like to inspect it before the guests arrive." He led me through the restaurant to the exclusive back room I'd reserved weeks ago. The space was transformed exactly as I'd envisioned—crystal chandeliers casting a warm glow over the long mahogany table, white roses and hydrangeas arranged in silver vases, and place cards embossed with gold leaf marking each seat. I ran my finger over Ryan's card at the right of the head chair—my position. Three years of sacrifice had led to this moment: my son's acceptance to Harvard, the culmination of countless late nights reviewing essays, weekends spent on campus tours, and the quiet reshaping of my entire life to ensure his success. "The champagne will be served at precisely seven-thirty, after your toast," Antoine confirmed as I adjusted a slightly misaligned fork.

"You look stunning tonight," Rex said, his eyes briefly leaving the road to glance at me. His smile was practiced perfection, the same one that had melted my defenses two years ago. "Thank you," I replied, my fingers still lingering on the lace. "I wanted to look perfect for your company gala." He reached across the console, his hand finding mine.
