Chapter 2

"Don't forget, you're the one who spent weeks playing me, taking care of him. You know his routines. I need you by my side until this is done."

Then she tossed me a wide-brimmed hat and a pair of sunglasses. "Cover your face. If anyone figures this out and ruins my plan, you'll regret it."

I just offered a faint smile. "Got it."

In the weeks I’d spent as Zach's caregiver, there was one thing I was certain of: he was no spoiled, simple-minded heir.

As the Garcia family's "fixer," he was shrewd and ruthless. Victoria thought she could outsmart him, but she was just digging her own grave.

And I wasn't about to stop her.

Victoria strode confidently toward him, holding the drugged glass of whiskey she'd prepared.

Zach drank it without a second thought. Within minutes, an unnatural flush crept up his handsome face, and his body began to sway.

Victoria, playing the part of his caregiver once more, rushed to support him and guide him toward the elevator.

On the way, I slipped a spare key card for the top-floor suite into her hand. "Got you a spare."

Her eyes lit up. "See? You're not completely useless after all."

"Once I’m officially with him, I'll introduce you to some Wall Street type or a company director. That should set you up for life."

"Stand guard outside. Don't let anyone ruin my big moment. If this gets screwed up, I promise I'll make your life a living hell."

I didn't argue. I just followed them upstairs and quietly positioned myself at the entrance to the fire escape, not directly in front of their door.

A few minutes later, a muffled thud echoed from inside the suite.

Then the door was flung open, and Zach staggered out.
