Her Perfect Lie: The Empire Heiress Novel Cover

Her Perfect Lie: The Empire Heiress

In a world ruled by power and illusion, the most dangerous role is playing yourself. When scandal detonates inside the powerful Laurent empire, its fragile heiress, Georgia Laurent, vanishes from public view. Investors panic. Markets wobble. The media circles like vultures. Then Georgia returns. Perfectly styled. Perfectly composed. Perfectly convincing. There's just one problem. She isn't Georgia Laurent. She's Sharon Beckley - a struggling actress drowning in debt and one missed audition away from losing everything. When the enigmatic fixer James Barnett offers her an obscene amount of money to impersonate the heiress "temporarily," Sharon accepts. It's a role with strict rules: smile for cameras, memorize the biography, sign where instructed, and never ask questions. But behind the mirrored walls of the Laurent estate, Sharon discovers this isn't damage control. It's containment. Locked wings of the mansion. Security systems recently upgraded. Burned files in marble fireplaces. Offshore accounts bleeding billions from Laurent Global Holdings. And whispers of a former executive whose fatal accident may have been murder. When Sharon pushes too far, the pressure shifts. Surveillance tightens. James grows colder. The board becomes ruthless. Then the real Georgia disappears. No flight records. No secure messages. No proof she's alive. And suddenly Sharon understands the truth: she wasn't hired to stand in. She was selected to replace. Now trapped inside a stolen identity with powerful men determined to preserve the illusion, Sharon faces an impossible choice - become Georgia completely and inherit an empire built on blood... Or expose the conspiracy and risk being erased permanently. Because in the Laurent world, identities are assets. And only one Georgia Laurent is allowed to exist.

Chapter 81

Chapter 81 – Family Secrets

James Barnett sat alone in his high-rise apartment, a glass of whiskey untouched in his hand. For the past ten years, he had prided himself on control-control over corporations, influence, and even his own past.

But the past was starting to unravel.

Missed calls, strangers greeting him warmly, photos of him at events he had no memory of attending, and now... Dominic Reyes, the man who mirrored his every move.

Something about Dominic's insistence gnawed at him: that he had stolen the life that was rightfully his.

James had always believed his twin died at birth. The story was clear, simple, a neatly packaged tragedy. But what if it wasn't true?

He dug out old family files from the storage room, dusty folders labeled "Barnett-Reyes Archives."

Inside, he found hospital records with names crossed out, a birth certificate that had been altered, and a note in his mother's handwriting: "One child sold. One kept. For protection. For power."

James swallowed hard. His life, his achievements, his identity-were they all built on a lie?

Across the city, Georgia sifted through the PI's findings, realizing David Luther's dual identity could be more sinister than she imagined. But even as she prepared to dig deeper into David, James faced a more personal revelation.

He called Dominic. The line was tense, electric with years of rivalry and resentment.

"Why?" James asked. "Why did you let me live a lie?"

Dominic's voice was calm, almost chilling. "We were both sold before we could understand what life was. You think your life was stolen? No. We were both manipulated. And now... only one can reclaim the truth."

James felt a cold fury. Memories flickered-fragments of another time, of a brother he didn't know he had, of parents whose love had been conditional, transactional, dangerous.

It wasn't just about inheritance, or corporate control. It was about identity, justice, and surviving a family secret decades in the making.

James traced old family addresses, hospitals, and orphanage records. Each location revealed more contradictions. Who had signed the papers? Who had authorized the swap?

Then he found it: a hidden ledger in a shuttered clinic, listing the Barnett twins. One marked as "James Barnett – kept," the other as "Dominic Reyes – sold." The handwriting matched the note from his mother.

But beside Dominic's entry was an additional annotation, scribbled in haste: "Do not contact. Lives at risk."

James froze. Someone had deliberately tried to erase Dominic-and protect him... or control him.

He stared at the ledger, realization dawning: this wasn't just a family secret. It was a legacy of deception, manipulation, and danger that had reached into every corner of their lives.

The phone buzzed suddenly. Unknown number.

A text appeared:

"Stop digging, James. Some truths are lethal."

The glass of whiskey trembled in his hand.

James realized that the line between family and enemy had blurred. The man he had always thought was dead-or missing-was alive, watching, and waiting. And now, so were the people who had orchestrated it all.
