Her Perfect Lie: The Empire Heiress Novel Cover

Her Perfect Lie: The Empire Heiress

In a world ruled by power and illusion, the most dangerous role is playing yourself. When scandal detonates inside the powerful Laurent empire, its fragile heiress, Georgia Laurent, vanishes from public view. Investors panic. Markets wobble. The media circles like vultures. Then Georgia returns. Perfectly styled. Perfectly composed. Perfectly convincing. There's just one problem. She isn't Georgia Laurent. She's Sharon Beckley - a struggling actress drowning in debt and one missed audition away from losing everything. When the enigmatic fixer James Barnett offers her an obscene amount of money to impersonate the heiress "temporarily," Sharon accepts. It's a role with strict rules: smile for cameras, memorize the biography, sign where instructed, and never ask questions. But behind the mirrored walls of the Laurent estate, Sharon discovers this isn't damage control. It's containment. Locked wings of the mansion. Security systems recently upgraded. Burned files in marble fireplaces. Offshore accounts bleeding billions from Laurent Global Holdings. And whispers of a former executive whose fatal accident may have been murder. When Sharon pushes too far, the pressure shifts. Surveillance tightens. James grows colder. The board becomes ruthless. Then the real Georgia disappears. No flight records. No secure messages. No proof she's alive. And suddenly Sharon understands the truth: she wasn't hired to stand in. She was selected to replace. Now trapped inside a stolen identity with powerful men determined to preserve the illusion, Sharon faces an impossible choice - become Georgia completely and inherit an empire built on blood... Or expose the conspiracy and risk being erased permanently. Because in the Laurent world, identities are assets. And only one Georgia Laurent is allowed to exist.

Chapter 123

Chapter 123 – The First Betrayal

James Barnett had always believed in loyalty. In the corridors of his empire, trust was a currency more valuable than gold. But tonight, something felt off.

He reviewed the latest corporate communications, scanning through emails, memos, and signed approvals. A pattern emerged-subtle, almost imperceptible. Projects were delayed intentionally. Contracts were quietly rerouted. Decisions he never authorized were signed in his name.

His mind raced. Who could do this? Who could betray him now, when everything he had built was under siege from Dominic Reyes?

Then came the call from Marcus, the ally who had been tracking Dominic's manipulations.

"James... someone in your inner circle has switched sides. I've traced orders and approvals. They're feeding Dominic everything."

James's stomach dropped. A mole. A trusted colleague.

He summoned the colleague-Richard Halston, VP of Operations, a man James had considered almost family in the corporate hierarchy.

"James... I can explain," Richard began nervously as he entered the office.

James's eyes narrowed. "Explain what? That you've been signing off on Dominic's directives as if they were mine? That you've been sabotaging your own company?"

Richard's face paled. "You don't understand... he threatened my family. He's... he's not just your brother-he's a ghost who knows every weakness we have."

James's anger flared, but so did a creeping doubt. Dominic was cunning enough to manipulate people's fears. Yet betrayal was betrayal.

"Your fear doesn't excuse treason," James said coldly. "I trusted you, Richard. And you've turned against me at the worst possible time."

Richard's shoulders slumped. "I didn't have a choice. I tried... I tried to warn you, but he's always one step ahead."

James realized something terrifying: the breach was deeper than he imagined. Not just Richard, but several key executives had already been compromised, feeding Dominic intelligence, undermining decisions, and weakening the empire from within.

He slammed his fist on the table, papers scattering. Dominic Reyes wasn't just his twin-he was orchestrating an internal coup, dismantling James's life piece by piece.

A soft chime alerted James to a new message on his encrypted line. He opened it.

The message was simple, chilling:

"The first betrayal is just the beginning. Watch the people you love-watch your own shadow."

James froze. The truth sank in. Trust was gone. Loyalty was gone. And the storm was only beginning.

I was the ultimate trophy wife, a polished ornament in Francisco Zimmerman’s billionaire empire. For three years, I perfected the "Zimmerman Wife Smile," playing the role of the devoted partner while smoothing the Egyptian cotton of his shirts. The illusion shattered when I stood outside his study and heard him laughing with his mistress, Annalise. "She’s just a vase that only knows how to smile," Francisco’s voice was cold, devoid of any warmth. "As long as I pay the maintenance fees on time, she stays obedient." I walked out that night with nothing but a canvas bag and the clothes on my back. But Francisco wasn't finished with his "asset." He froze my bank accounts and used his massive influence to blacklist me from every interior design firm in New York. He tracked my phone, watching me struggle from the shadows, waiting for me to starve so I would crawl back to his mansion. He even showed up at the dive bar where I was playing piano for rent money, mocking my desperation. "You have technique, but no heart," he sneered, tossing a silver coin into my tip jar as if I were a beggar. "You're hollow, Iris. Just like your pride." I couldn't believe this was the same man whose life I had saved during a bloody night in Macau. To him, I wasn't a wife; I was a stock price that needed stabilizing. The more I fought for my independence, the tighter he pulled the net, determined to break my spirit until I had no choice but to return to his gilded cage. Then, the morning sickness hit. I realized I wasn't just carrying my own life anymore—I was carrying his heir. If Francisco found out, he would never let us go; he would turn my child into another "performance bonus" for his brand. Looking at the sonogram, I knew a divorce would never be enough to escape a man who thought he owned the world. "I'm not going back," I whispered, staring at his yacht moored in the harbor. "To save this baby, Iris Potter has to die."
