Her Love for him was Gone Forever

The marriage between Joslyn and Kade was a union of two prominent families in the city, but it also hid her deep, unrequited love. Five years ago, she believed that Kade had lost his sexual function due to a car accident while saving her, so she willingly accepted a platonic marriage. She even continuously invested the profits of the her family into the his family to ease her guilt. It wasn't until a chance encounter that she discovered Kade's affair with his childhood sweetheart, Scarlett, that she realized the so-called "secret illness" was all a lie. Kade had not only fully recovered but had been spiking her drinks with sleeping pills for a long time. Moreover, due to a misunderstanding from when she returned from being taken away by her uncle-mistakenly deemed as being from a "place of ill repute"-he considered her "dirty" and deliberately kept his distance. More cruelly, the car accident back then was not to save her but because Kade was on his way to pick up Scarlett at the airport. The series of betrayals and schemes finally awakened Joslyn. Under constant threat from Kade and Scarlett, she faced numerous dangers-from being pushed in front of a knife, undergoing skin grafts, to nearly falling off a cliff due to tampered brakes. Ultimately, she decided to sever ties with the past and, with her uncle's assistance, went abroad. Overseas, Joslyn found her true self, pursued a PhD in finance, and took over her family business. Unexpectedly, she encountered Kade again while dealing with gangsters. Kade, now truly remorseful, did everything to protect her from the gang, even sacrificing the his family's interests, yet it couldn't undo the past wounds. Meanwhile, Kade's half-brother, Nicolas, allied with Scarlett to disrupt the family inheritance. In the end, both Nicolas and Kade perished in an explosion. Years later, Joslyn became a CEO. She let go of past love and hatred, established a foundation to support African communities in accordance with Kade's last wish, and shifted her life's focus to greater love and responsibility, embarking on a new chapter truly her own.

Chapter 4

When Joslyn awoke again, three days had passed.

Her throat was hoarse. She tried to sit up to pour herself some water, but the pain from the wound in her abdomen made it nearly impossible for her to move.

"Joslyn, you're awake." Kade hurriedly poured a glass of water and handed it to her.

But as soon as she took a sip, a sharp pain pulled at the muscles in her face.

In a daze, Joslyn seemed to see a scar on her face reflected in the water's surface.

She reached for a mirror on the table to take a closer look, but Kade quickly hid it behind his back. "Joslyn, don't look!"

Joslyn felt more anxious. She ignored Kade's protests and took out her phone and used the screen's reflection to look at her face. To her surprise, she saw a large, reddish-brown scar the size of half a palm on the lower right cheek.

"My face!" she cried out, on the brink of a breakdown.

From a young age, she had always cared deeply about her appearance.

She spent millions at beauty salons every month. But she had been disfigured now.

She never imagined Kade and Scarlett would do that to her.

Kade was well aware of how much Joslyn valued her looks, but he hadn't expected her to have such an intense reaction.

"Get out! Get out of here! Stop pretending to be the good guy here. I heard everything. You asked the doctor to graft my skin for Scarlett."

Joslyn was furious. Regardless of the tearing pain from her wound, she slapped Kade hard several times.

"Joslyn, I'm sorry. I was out of my mind. You can hit me and scold me. You can do whatever you want to me." Kade seemed to be sincere in apologizing to her.

When Joslyn was too exhausted to continue slapping him, she collapsed onto the bed and looked at him. She suddenly laughed. "Can I do anything I want? Fine. Scarlet's gross negligence led to a patient's tragic death. Without even informing me, she presumptuously disfigured my face. I want her to put her in jail."

"Alright, Joslyn. As long as it makes you feel better, anything is possible."

Joslyn was a bit surprised at how readily Kade agreed to her requests.

And he followed her words. He made a call and immediately had Scarlett removed from her position and imprisoned based on the charges Joslyn listed.

Fortunately, the knife the family member of the patient had wielded that day was small, and Joslyn's wound was not deep. After just over a week, Joslyn was able to be discharged from the hospital.

On the day of her discharge, there was a gathering among the Lloyd family members.

Due to Kade's busy schedule, he could only let Joslyn drive herself back to the old mansion of the Lloyd family.

The Lloyd family's old mansion was located on a hillside, with the road being almost entirely winding mountain paths.

Not long after she started driving, Joslyn realized something was off.

The brakes of the car were malfunctioning and had signs of being tampered with.

Joslyn forced herself to stay calm. She desperately tried to control the car's direction while trying to find a way to slow down and escape the danger.

But just then, a torrential downpour began.

The car was too fast. It skidded on a sharp turn and tumbled straight down the cliff.

Joslyn felt that the whole world seemed to be spinning upside down.

Luckily, the cliff wasn't too steep. After several flips, the car finally came to a stop at the bottom.

She screamed for help. But it was in such harsh weather and in a remote area that few people were there. Her voice went hoarse without anyone going to save her.

She took her phone and wanted to call for help, only to find it was shattered.

So she had no choice but to rescue herself.

She struggled to crawl out of the car. When she reached the family's old mansion, she was disheveled and barefoot.

It was already in the evening.

"Mr. Lloyd, it is raining heavily. Are you sure that it's okay to have tampered with the brakes of Joslyn's car?"

"She's getting exactly what she deserves. It was just a bit of skin grafting, and she dared to have Scarlett removed and jailed. Next time she dares to trouble Scarlett, I won't mind sending her to her death."

As Joslyn reached out to push the door open, she heard the conversation between Kade and his man.

Joslyn couldn't believe her ears.

Just because she made Scarlett face the consequences the latter deserved, Kade was about to send her to her death.

She lifted her head to gaze at the rain.

Her heart felt colder than the storm.

An intense anger burned within her. She had initially intended to leave quietly.

She was more determined to leave him and even decided to make Kade pay at that moment.
