Chapter 1

Lilah Moore stayed on the bar stool while one strong drink after another went down her throat.

The alcohol burned, but she barely reacted.

The bar pulsed with noise and flashing lights. After finishing her last glass, Lilah rose unsteadily from her seat. Her eyes wandered through the crowd before stopping on a man sitting alone nearby.

Darren Stanley occupied the corner by himself. His handsome face and cold expression made him stand out from everyone else.

For reasons she couldn't explain, Lilah walked straight over to him. "Hey, handsome. How about I pay you to spend the night with me?"

Disgust flickered across Darren's face. This woman actually thought he was for sale? He was about to send her away when Lilah suddenly settled herself on his lap.

Bold from the alcohol, she slipped open two buttons on his shirt and brushed her fingers across his chest.

A faint sweet scent lingered around her. Darren's breathing shifted, and heat slowly built inside him.

The moment Lilah reached toward his belt, Darren grabbed her wrist tightly.

A low laugh escaped him. "I don't come cheap," he said. "Are you sure you can afford me?"

Lilah's fingers froze. His grip carried an undeniable pressure that made her want to pull away at once.

The memory from three hours ago crashed back into Lilah's mind without warning.

Earlier that night, an unknown number had sent her a message.

A video came with it.

The footage showed Cayson James tangled up with Nicole Davis in bed while she looked straight into the camera with open smugness.

The message underneath didn't hold back either. "You're Lilah, aren't you? I'm Nicole Davis, Cayson's fiancée. We've been together for three years already. He's the future heir of the James Group, and our families are a perfect match. We've shared his bed more times than I can count. You're nothing but some country woman who doesn't belong in his world, so stop hanging around him."

For three years, Cayson had hidden everything from her. He concealed his wealthy background. He got engaged behind her back. He lied to her over and over again while she foolishly gave him six years of her life.

The whole relationship had been one humiliating joke.

Something inside Lilah snapped.

Without another thought, she tilted her head up and caught Darren's lip between her teeth. Then she leaned against his ear and let out a soft laugh. "As long as you're willing," she whispered drunkenly, "money won't be a problem for me."

The moment those words left her mouth, Darren lifted her effortlessly into his arms. "You brought this on yourself."

Inside the presidential suite, the atmosphere turned stifling almost instantly.

Darren gave Lilah no chance to retreat.

The second he finally claimed her, a rough breath escaped him, and tension spread through his body.

"You're a siren," he muttered in a low voice. Praise rarely left his mouth, yet he couldn't stop himself this time.

Lilah barely heard him.

The alcohol clouded her thoughts more with every passing second. Heat spread uncontrollably through her body, and her remaining awareness slowly slipped away.

Darren intertwined his fingers through hers before lowering his head to kiss her again and again, leaving her no room to breathe.

Above them, the ceiling mirror reflected their tangled figures beneath the dim lights.

Breathless sounds echoed through the room for the entire night.

Nothing between them stayed restrained. From the bed to the sofa, then from the towering windows to the bathtub, Darren kept taking Lilah apart piece by piece until morning finally arrived.

Not once did Lilah see his face clearly.

A blindfold stayed over her eyes the whole time. All she understood was that she had gotten drunk, dragged a stranger into her mess, and fallen into something that barely felt real.

After that night, Darren vanished completely.

When Lilah finally woke up, she realized she was trapped inside an unfamiliar room. The cloth remained tied around her eyes. She called for help and struggled against the restraints, but nobody answered her.

Every day blended together after that. The only way she could tell time was through the meals delivered to her room.

Six days passed in complete isolation.

Then the silence finally broke on the seventh day.

The bedroom door slowly opened.

Lilah immediately lifted her head.

Over the past several days, she had memorized the footsteps of the people who entered the room.

However, this time, the sound was different. It belonged to the man from that night.

Before she could react, someone roughly tore the blindfold away.

Harsh sunlight poured into her eyes without warning. Lilah cried out softly and shut them at once.

Several seconds later, she forced herself to look again. At first, everything appeared blurred and white. Then a tall figure gradually came into focus.

The man standing before her carried an overwhelming presence. He towered over most people with his tall frame, broad shoulders, and lean waist. Sharp lines shaped his face, from the bridge of his nose to the hard curve of his jaw. Beneath his dark brows, his eyes held a dangerous chill that made him difficult to face directly. Everything about him demanded attention.

Fear instantly settled in Lilah's chest. She tightened her grip around the quilt without thinking.

So he was the one who had trapped her here all this time.

This was the first moment they had faced each other with clear minds, yet Darren looked at her as if she meant nothing.

Tears spilled down Lilah's cheeks almost immediately. Fury rushed through her as she snatched the pillow beside her and hurled it at him. "You're sick! You're nothing but a disgusting rapist! I'll have the police arrest you!"

Before the pillow could hit him, Darren caught it with one hand. A mocking laugh left his lips. "Then report me. But you should remember who approached who that night. You were the one who climbed onto me after getting drunk."

Lilah's expression lost all color. The moment she jumped off the bed and rushed toward the exit, several bodyguards immediately blocked the doorway.

Without any change in expression, Darren turned slightly toward the men beside the door. "Take her back."
