Chapter 1

Harriet’s white moonlight was poisoned.

To create an antidote, he didn’t hesitate to poison me, using my body as a test subject for his experiments.

I cried and begged for mercy, but his eyes remained cold.

“It’s just a few experiments. You won’t die. Is it really necessary for you to be this dramatic?”

When the antidote was finally developed, the white moonlight was revived.

But I, left behind in the lab, was tormented daily by various toxins until my body had been reduced to a shadow of itself, unrecognizable.

Later, Harriet finally remembered me and, in what seemed like an act of mercy, brought me the antidote.

But by then... I was beyond saving.

...

“The antidote? If Thera hadn’t kept begging me, I wouldn’t have bothered with you. Someone as cruel and heartless as you deserves to wait for death.”

“Fine.”

I replied calmly, not even reaching for the antidote.

I simply watched as it fell to the ground, shattering into pieces.

Just like the relationship between Harriet and me.

Broken. Disgraceful.

In the past, I would never have dared do that.

Because every time I saw Harriet’s cold expression, I would panic, terrified he might leave me.

But now? It didn’t matter anymore.

The commotion was loud, drawing the attention of everyone in the lab.

Some gazed at me with pity, others sneered, and a few just watched for the drama.

“Has Cathy lost her mind? Why is she still throwing a tantrum at Harriet, refusing to take the antidote? If she doesn’t detox soon, her body…”

“Doesn’t she deserve it? Who told her to poison Thera? She poisoned her own sister. She deserves to die!”

“Yeah, Thera kept thinking about her, but Cathy just wanted to steal her fiancé!”

...

I pretended not to hear.

After all these years of experiments, I had long grown used to such remarks.

I had stopped arguing with them long ago.

After all, it was Harriet himself who had admitted to poisoning Thera.

He only did it to give himself a reason to experiment on me.

I had escaped more than once, only to be caught every time.

The last time, he broke one of my legs, his gaze colder than ice.

“Cathy! You’re Thera’s sister! How can you be so heartless and watch her die?”

But the truth was...

I couldn’t watch Thera die.

But there were lab rats. There were countless other options.

He insisted, “You two are sisters! The rejection reactions and results will be more similar! You’re the perfect candidate!”

“Thera doesn’t want to harm so many rabbits and lab mice because of me! She’s so kind-hearted! How could you, her selfish sister, do this?”

As my thoughts returned to the present, I ignored Harriet.

But he continued staring at the broken antidote on the floor, his gaze dark.

“Cathy! After all these years, haven’t you learned to control that damn temper of yours? Thera has already forgiven you, and you’re still throwing a tantrum? Besides, you didn’t die. What’s the point of holding onto this grudge?”

Before he could finish, the lab door swung open.

Thera entered, her face filled with worry, but there was also a hint of challenge in her eyes.

When she saw me, she hurried over and grabbed my hand, tears filling her eyes.

“Cathy, are you still mad at me? I’m sorry, I just didn’t want so many lab rats to die because of me. After all, they’re lives too.”

I almost laughed.

Her one mention of “life” had cost me five years trapped in that lab.

It had subjected me to endless torment from various poisons, day and night, for five years.

Does “sorry” really make a difference?

I calmly withdrew my hand, but Thera suddenly stumbled backward.

Her left hand slammed into the broken ceramic shards, and blood poured out immediately.

“Cathy, why did you push me away? I just wanted to apologize. Do you really hate me that much?”

I was guiding the blade through a slab of A5 Wagyu for our seven-year anniversary when a burner phone vibrated against my knee. Yet, while I was here cooking his favorite steak, he had married a mob princess to secure her father's territory. You just stay in the shadows a little longer." He looked at me like I was a piece of high-end furniture. When I told him I was leaving, his face darkened. "You can't resign from the Mafia, Seraphina," he sneered, blocking the door. "If you leave, I will burn everything you have." He truly believed he was the King on the chessboard. He forgot that I was the one who built the board. I didn't scream. I didn't cry. I simply walked out, opened my encrypted laptop, and dialed the number of the one man Dante feared most. "I'm cashing out," I said. "And I'm bringing the entire Gallo empire with me."
