Chapter 1

I’ve been mated to Caleb Tran, the future Alpha of the Silver Moon Pack, for five years. Every month, he brings home a different woman, staying up until the early hours. He insists it's his way of showing me who he truly loves. His affections wander, promises whispered to countless women. Yet, with me, his mate, he’s stingy. When he finally tried to talk to me, I realized I was no longer interested in listening.

---

The rain poured heavily outside, its intensity unable to drown out the moans from within the Alpha’s suite. After a few moments, the panting subsided, and Caleb emerged from the bedroom, with lingering signs of passion on his skin.

“Done?” I asked calmly, my tone as steady as my experience over the last five years. Still, why does my heart ache despite my numbness?

Seeing me quietly on the couch, he sneered. “How could it be over? My sweetheart and I will go for another round.”

“Go grab some aspirin. One bottle isn’t enough for me and Fernanda,” he ordered, his Alpha tone sharp and commanding. I nodded automatically, taking note of this month’s girl's name: Fernanda Wilson, an Omega from our pack. Only when I stepped outside did I realize I'd forgotten an umbrella.

Raindrops splashed on my face, mingling with the tears streaming down my cheeks. Battling the storm, I bought the aspirin. As if a stranger, I knocked on the master bedroom door. Only after several attempts did Caleb open it with impatience.

With a glance, I saw the room scattered with remnants of their night. Caleb noticed me too: drenched, hair sticking to my scalp, my white dress clinging to my skin. I looked pitiful.

Seeing me, he hesitated to reach out but withdrew quickly, his eyes holding a complex expression. “You went out without an umbrella?”

Fernanda giggled. “Alpha Caleb, you just don’t understand women, do you? Mina got soaked on purpose to make you feel sorry for her!”

Caleb’s eyebrows furrowed, his face showing the same disdain I've seen for five years. “Expecting me to feel sorry for her? Maybe in the next life!”

“Mina Carroll, five years have passed, and all you’ve learned is how to play the victim. Too bad I’m not my father, Alpha John; I don’t fall for it!” With that, he snatched the bag from my hand, shamelessly flaunting it before me.

As he wanted, I watched them. For five years, I’ve watched this scene endlessly. Caleb has never touched me. Everyone in our pack knows my pitiful story.

When the clock struck midnight, Caleb reluctantly finished. Fernanda snuggled close to him. “Alpha Caleb, you got my clothes dirty, and I have work tomorrow. I can’t wear them like this!”

Caleb grinned and gestured at me. “Don’t worry, sweetheart. Isn’t she here?” He stood up and tossed the dirty clothes at me. “You’re just sitting around. Go wash Fernanda’s clothes.”

Fernanda said sweetly, “I’m sorry, Mina. Alpha Caleb is just the best. Oh, and Mina, my clothes can’t go in the machine; they need to be hand-washed.”

“Alpha Caleb, you won’t feel sorry for her, right?”

I looked at Caleb. He smiled, caressing Fernanda’s hair. “No way, sweetheart. You’re the only one I love, the only one who’ll be my Valentine.” Then he instructed coldly, “Do whatever my sweetheart asks.”

Seeing me unmoved, Caleb looked at me with irritation. “Didn’t you promise you’d make it up to me no matter what? Have you forgotten?”

I shook my head, ignoring the mess. As he wanted, on Valentine’s Day, I washed away the aftermath of my mate and his lover’s night.

Unsatisfied, Caleb glanced around. “Mina Carroll, you’ll sleep on the couch tonight, ready to serve. Fernanda and I need a maid.”

Throughout the night, Fernanda wanted water, then paper. I didn’t bother trying to sleep. Like countless nights before, I sat through the dark until dawn.

I stared at the two pink lines on the pregnancy test, my hands trembling so badly I nearly dropped it into the chipped sink of the Omega quarters. Three years. Three years of stolen moments in Sebastian's office after midnight, of whispered promises in the dark, of believing that love could somehow bridge the gap between an Alpha heir and a wolfless Omega like me. Now I had proof that our connection was real. Undeniable. I pressed my palm against my still-flat stomach, a nervous smile tugging at my lips. This changed everything. Sebastian would have to acknowledge me now. He'd defy his father, Marcus Stone, and claim me as his true mate. We'd finally stop hiding.

The morning light filtered through the curtains as I balanced the tray of tea and toast, my fingers tracing over the delicate china pattern my mother had chosen decades ago. Every morning for the past week, I'd brought her breakfast personally—a small gesture of love for the woman who had given me everything. "Mom, I've brought your favorite Earl Grey," I called, pushing open the door to her chambers with my hip. The room fell silent. Too silent. "Mom?" My voice wavered as I set the tray down on the small table near her bed. Jolene Matthews lay motionless on her bed, her silver-streaked hair fanned across the pillow, her eyes closed forever. My mother—the former Luna, the backbone of our pack—was gone. "No!" The word tore from my throat as I rushed to her side, my hands shaking as they hovered over her still form. "Mom, please..." My wolf, Aria, howled in anguish inside me.

The familiar scent of pine and wild roses filled my lungs as I crossed the border into Silver Moon territory. Seven years of captivity, three years of struggling to belong again, and now I was finally coming home—if this place could still be called that. Pack members milled about the grand den's courtyard, their conversations dying as I passed. I kept my chin high despite the weight of their stares. The whispers followed me like shadows. "There she is..." "The Alpha's daughter..." "Poor Lily, having to deal with her again..." My wolf, Nova, growled inside me. *Ignore them. We know who we are.* I nodded slightly, acknowledging her strength. Nova had been my only constant companion through everything—the kidnapping, the years away, and the cold homecoming that followed. The grand den's massive oak doors swung open before I reached them.

The night before our marking ceremony, I stood frozen outside Samuel's office, my hand hovering inches from the doorknob. I'd come to surprise him with the ceremonial robes I'd spent weeks embroidering with our pack's symbols—a gesture I thought would make tomorrow perfect. But the words filtering through the door stopped me cold. "She's been so clingy lately," Samuel's voice dripped with irritation. "Always asking when we're going to mark, when we're going to announce our status. It's pathetic." I pressed my back against the wall, my heart hammering against my ribs. This couldn't be real. Samuel—my childhood protector, the man I'd given my wolf to save—was complaining about me to his Beta. "Tomorrow's just a formality," he continued, his voice lowering to that intimate tone I thought was reserved only for me. "Once I've officially claimed the Alpha position through her family's bloodline, I can finally be rid of her." My fingers dug into my palms until I felt warm wetness—blood.
