Chapter 2

Freya

"What is wrong with you! I almost went deaf from the sound!" Mia scolded and I bowed my head immediately.

"I'm so sorry." I whispered and Alpha Jasper glared at me.

"It was a silly mistake, please forgive her." He whispered, pressing a kiss to her cheek and she broke into a smile.

"Babe. Would you please get the special pastry I like? It's been a while since I had any." Mia muttered, fluttering her lashes and he bolted to his feet immediately.

"Anything you want, consider it done."

"But. Alpha, you have a meeting in ten minutes?"

"Push it back till afternoon or schedule it for tomorrow." He instructed and my eyes almost popped out with shock.

"But. I can get the pastry."

"No, Mia's needs are too important for you to handle. Push back the meeting and attend to Mia, provide her with everything she needs." He instructed and I nodded.

"Thank you so much babe. I'll see you later." She whispered as they exchanged a kiss.

I bowed as I watched him leave and turning around to leave, her cold voice rang out.

"Where the fuck do you think you're heading to?" She demanded.

"I. I wanna reschedule the meeting."

"Do not speak until I ask you to speak to, worthless secretary!" She thundered and I bowed my head.

"Now pick up that mess you made."

"But. I need a broom."

"Nope, with your hands. I'll teach you how to value things in this office, do you know how much the mugs cost? Wretched things like you don't value what you can't afford." She insulted and I swallowed the pain numbing at my heart as I bent and began picking up the shredded mug.

"Ouch!" I winced as I felt a sharp pain on my palm, I looked up at her to see a satisfied smirk, I took everything in stride.

"Make me another coffee, no sugar, no ice." She instructed and I nodded.

"When I speak with you, you fucking address me as ma'am, I will be your Luna soon so you better learn some manners!" She warned.

"Yes ma'am." I whispered as my eyes watered. I dashed out as the tears followed freely.

"Freya. Are you okay?"

"Your hand is bleeding."

"How could she make you pick up glasses with your hand?"

"I'm so sorry." My colleagues muttered as they stared at me with pity and I forced a smile.

"It's nothing."

"Unfortunately nobody can go against the Alpha or Mia. She's the daughter of the gamma and ever since she became the alpha's mate, nobody has ever been able to touch her." They explained and I nodded.

"It's fine." I replied as I dumped the glass in a bin and grabbed some wipes.

After wrapping my hand properly, I headed into the coffee room where I made her coffee in five minutes.

It was steaming hot and I prayed mentally for the goddess to keep her in check.

"Come in." She snapped after I knocked on the door.

"What took you so long?"

"I'm sorry. I had to clean the wound."

"So you wrapped up your hand in order to trick Jasper? You want Jasper to think you're injured and feel pity for you? Hell no, take it off now!" She snapped and I nodded without a word.

"This is awful! You're just useless!" She yelled as she howled the hot coffee on me and I winced as I stepped back, fanning my scalded wrist.

"What's going on here?" Jasper's voice rang out and she bolted to his side immediately.

"She brought hot coffee, it was scalding. I made it clear that I wanted coffee with ice but I don't understand why she brought the wrong one."

"What is wrong with you! What's so hard about making coffee? Are you trying to injure her?" He bellowed and I bowed my head, biting back tears as I tried not to make a sound.

"Apologize to her now!" He ordered and I nodded.

"I'm. I'm sorry." I whispered and she flashed a smile.

"It's fine. I just hope you won't make the same mistake again. I have no reason to be angry, it's just one mistake and you've been working beside Jasper for years, it shows how competent you are." She replied and he grabbed her hand, kissing them softly.

"I'm glad you're not injured. You're the most important thing to me right now, even the pack comes after you. You're my priceless jewel and I'd do anything just to protect you." He whispered and she cupped his face.

"I love you so much. I'm sorry for leaving the pack initially. it was."

"It's fine, you're back to me and that's the most important thing, nothing matters in this world." He replied and she turned to me.

"You can leave." I nodded immediately and dashed towards the bathroom, unable to keep the tears in check.

"Why? After all these years. I stayed by your side and helped you overcome your grief." I whispered softly and my eyes widened when Mia walked inside, a satisfied smirk on her face.

"Because you're nothing but a low-life who is unworthy of him. He's the Alpha, an omega like you shouldn't be working beside him. You should be working as a maid in the pack house or for me." She replied and I wiped my tears.

"What do you want?" I demanded staring at her intently and she chuckled for a moment.

"I want to put you in your place and make things clear to you. I left Jasper for a few years but I can assure you that even if I leave today, you won't be my replacement, you can give him your body but his heart will always be mine. His heart has always been mine and it'll be mine forever." She had a smirk on her face and I fisted my hands, trying to calm myself down.

"Please leave."

"My birthday is coming and you're going to plan the party according to my taste." She asserted with pride and I shook my head.

"Jasper is waiting for you, he's going to give you a list of everything I want and my birthday is in two days time so you better hurry your ass." She continued as she walked out, leaving me stunned.

I placed a hand on my pounding heart, trying to stop the pain from spreading round my body although it was furtive.

I had hoped for years, I thought it was finally my chance but it seems like the goddess has other plans.
