Gave Him My Paycheck, Now I Owe Him 800k
Chapter 2
“Oh my goodness!”
The guests in the hall immediately started whispering among themselves.
I stared at the screen, my mind going completely blank. I did not know any of these people, and I had never even been to these places before!
“Who are those men? Can you explain this?” Jenson questioned through gritted teeth.
“I don’t know them! That isn't me!” I blurted out desperately.
“Not you?” Jenson let out a cold sneer, then pulled out a thick stack of bank statements and slammed them onto the table. “Then take a look at this! This is the card I gave you, and this is almost a year’s worth of transactions! Sunshine Club, Golden Splendor…
"Every single transaction ran into the thousands, even tens of thousands! Estelle, do you even know how much I make in a month? You’ve been taking my hard-earned money to fund your time with these male escorts?”
Sunshine Club was the city’s most notorious money-draining den, strictly off-limits for any respectable woman.
The murmurs from the guests swelled around me like a tidal wave.
“Goodness, you really can’t judge a book by its cover!”
“After all Jenson has done for her, she turns out to be a trashy woman!”
“A gold digger is a gold digger. Hopeless and useless!”
Jenson’s mother rushed over, pointing at me while yelling, “You monster! Ungrateful scoundrel! Jenson must've been blind to fall for someone like you!”
I had no words to defend myself, only a dizzying sense that the world was spinning.
Jenson looked at me, and in his eyes was not a shred of compassion—just coldness and pure dislike.
“Estelle, I couldn’t have been more wrong about you.” He removed the diamond ring I had given him from his ring finger and tossed it to the floor. “I’m not marrying you. Return the car I bought you and every cent you’ve spent over the years, every single one!”
His friends immediately handed him a pre-prepared statement.
“The car cost 230,000 dollars. Over the past year, living expenses, gifts, and club spending have added up to 800,000 dollars. You must pay it back in full today!”
Everyone’s eyes were on me like I was already done for. They assumed that a young woman who had only been working for a year could never come up with that kind of money and that today would end in my ultimate humiliation.
I looked at Jenson's unfamiliar face, and the last flicker of warmth in my heart finally died out.
I took a deep breath, suppressing the rising shame and fury, and slowly straightened up.
All eyes in the room widened in shock as I slowly reached into the pocket of my suit and laid out the card he had entrusted me with on the table.
“Alright, then.” I met his eyes and gave him a mocking smile. “If we’re settling accounts, let’s do it. Every single item, down to the last detail!”
