Chapter 1

After being away for three years on a special mission, I saw a prenatal examination report on the passenger seat of my CEO wife's Maybach.

Fiona Geller told me, "My sister died so young. I must leave her a child. It's just a test-tube baby with my brother-in-law. It's not an affair."

The brother-in-law in question, Phillip Stanton, sent Fiona's pregnancy photos to my parents, mocking me for using his sperm to produce a baby with Fiona.

My parents suffered a heart attack upon learning the news and were hospitalized.

Fiona looked aggrieved. "Don't get so worked up, honey. One of the twins can have your surname!"

I looked at her, completely giving up hope. I then called the unit.

"Is the medicine working?" Fiona Geller's voice rang beside me.

"It's working very well. Mr. Silton will be unconscious for at least six hours." Her assistant sounded worried.

"Has the consent form been signed?" Fiona asked.

"Yes, I stamped it with Mr. Silton's fingerprint while he was unconscious. But Ms. Geller, this medicine has strong side effects and can damage liver function."

"I have no choice but to do it for my sister." Fiona sighed. "She passed away too soon. As her older sister, I have the obligation to leave her a child."

Her assistant hesitated. "Ms. Geller, isn't it too cruel to treat Mr. Silton like this? Thinking you still loved him, he deliberately came back to celebrate your birthday..."

"Three years ago, Timothy risked his life to protect me. How could I not love him?"

She touched my forehead, and her voice became gentle. "I'll spend the rest of my life with Timothy. I'm just having a child for someone else. It's not cheating."

The drug began to take effect, and I felt my consciousness becoming increasingly blurred.

When I opened my eyes again...

"Honey! You're finally awake!" Fiona immediately rushed to my bedside, her eyes filled with worry. "You suddenly felt unwell last night. You scared me to death."

If it were not for the conversation I heard last night, I would definitely have been moved.

"The doctor said you're physically exhausted. I've canceled all my work to take care of you for these few days." She gently massaged my temples. "Rest well. Don't think about anything. I'll make you some soup to help you recover."

If I had not known the truth, I would have thought I was the happiest man in the world. Now, this false tenderness was tearing my heart apart.

Fiona brought over a steaming bowl of chicken noodle soup. "Honey, you look so pale. You have to drink it all."

She fed me spoonful by spoonful. The aroma was enticing. It seemed she had put a lot of effort into it, but I tasted that familiar bitterness. It was that drug again!

I pretended to swallow before secretly spitting it into the vase on the bedside table when she turned away. Seeing that I had finished, she smiled with satisfaction. "Sleep. I'll go downstairs to clean the kitchen. I won't disturb you."

She gently wiped my mouth, closed the door, and left.

I lay in bed, listening to her footsteps as she went downstairs. Then came a familiar male voice. "Fiona, how did it go?"

It was her brother-in-law, Phillip Stanton.

My heart clenched instantly.

"He's already asleep."

"So, we can..."

"Yeah, let's go to the guest room. It's soundproof."
