Chapter 1

When I discover that Shawn Felton has kept a mistress for the past three years and even intends to throw her a wedding, I decide to leave him. I'm going home to marry the man my family has picked for me.

On the first day, I give the ring Shawn got me to his mistress.

On the second day, I throw away everything and anything that has to do with me.

On the third day, I put on a wedding dress and marry Shawn's nemesis.

From now on, Shawn and I will have nothing to do with each other.

Shawn is unfazed originally. He thinks I'm just throwing a tantrum.

He only panics when he sees the news of me marrying someone else.

In the office, neither of them noticed my presence outside the door.

I poured out the soup I had made for Shawn Felton and turned to leave.

Shawn always kissed me carefully, so I had never seen him kiss so passionately. Only now did I realize that it was because he only showed that side of himself to someone else.

I'd once believed that I could marry for love, but instead, reality dealt me a heavy blow.

Disappointed, I wiped away my tears and took a cab back to the villa.

As soon as I stepped out of the car, I received a few unfamiliar messages—they were from Olivia Thompson.

"I'm sure you've heard that Mr. Felton is planning a wedding for me that's even more extravagant than yours."

My heart sank as I read the message.

Shawn had once promised that he would only step into the wedding hall with me in this lifetime. However, the wedding we'd both been looking forward to had become nothing more than a tool to dote on Olivia.

Upon noticing that I didn't reply to her messages, Olivia sent me several more photos. In them, she and Shawn were intimately entwined.

"Has he ever loved you like this?" she asked.

I gave a bitter smile but didn't respond. Then, I saved the conversation and turned to head inside the villa.

Less than half an hour after arriving home, Shawn showed up with a large bouquet of roses. The fragrance of the roses was rich, but I could still smell the unique sweet scent on him.

His body had once carried only my scent, but now, I clearly knew that the scent on him was no longer mine.

I pushed him away, and for a moment, Shawn was surprised. But very quickly, he put on his usual expression.

He kissed the corner of my mouth—as if he were soothing a child—and gently coaxed me for a long time.

Whenever he had upset me in the past, he would do the same, and I would always soften and forgive him after just a few words of comfort. However, I didn't want to forgive him this time.

Upon seeing that I wasn't responding, Shawn took out a red velvet box from his coat pocket. He said, "Anna, take a look at this."

I opened the box, and inside was the diamond ring that I had wanted for so long.

In the past, Shawn had felt guilty for not being able to buy it for me. But now, as I looked at the guilt hidden deep in his eyes, I realized that this was just an attempt to make up for his infidelity.

I thought of the promises he had made to me, and I instinctively looked up at him.

He exclaimed, "Anna, I finally bought it for you. This ring belongs to you, so from now on, we'll be together forever."

I ran my fingers over the ring, but my heart felt as though it was being torn apart. I couldn't understand why Shawn could have a change of heart yet still remember his promises.

I took the ring off, but Shawn grabbed my hand and nervously asked, "Anna, what are you doing? Don't you like it?" A hint of helplessness flashed in his eyes.

I buried my thoughts and calmly replied, "A ring like this should be given on our wedding day. That would be more meaningful."

I saw Shawn visibly relax, but my heart ached to the point of breaking.

In the past, I had hoped to grow old with him, but now, there was no future for us anymore.

Shawn put the ring away and slapped his forehead. "I was too impatient, Anna. Just the thought of marrying you made me anxious."

If this were before, I might have been moved to tears. But now, I just silently watched him.

A flicker of guilt flashed in Shawn's eyes as he looked at my calm face.

Just as he was about to speak, his phone lit up.

At first, his expression darkened. But the moment he saw the message, his face lit up with excitement again.

As he scrolled through the screen, his throat bobbed, and a brief flash of desire flickered in his eyes.

Then, he turned off the phone screen and dramatically sighed. "Anna, I'm sorry. There's something at work I need to take care of."

Before I could respond, he hurried out without even bothering to put on his coat.

I still called out to him, saying, "Is it really something urgent?"

Shawn froze for a moment, then smiled and said, "Of course. Why would I lie to you? Be a good girl and wait for me to come back."

With that, he turned and left without a second thought.

I knew he was going to be with Olivia, and I knew he wouldn't be coming back that night.

I looked at the empty room and suddenly laughed.

I had once told him that if he lied to me and I found out, I would leave his world forever.

And since he had indeed lied to me, I decided that we would never meet again.
