Fiancé's Affair Ends Wedding Novel Cover

Fiancé's Affair Ends Wedding

I had just completed a special assignment when I received a call from my aunt, Ivanna. She informed me that she had found me a potential match—a hardworking, self-made individual who had overcome many hardships. Feeling a shared sense of struggle and understanding, I agreed without hesitation. When my colleagues learned about my upcoming wedding, they showered me with gifts, and my boss, Rishi, even arranged for a designer wedding dress. I asked Ivanna for the hotel’s address and had Rishi send the dress there. On an impulse, I decided to try on the dress. To my horror, I found my fiancé's widowed sister-in-law, Jaylani Diaz, altering my dress. She had attached black sleeves and added a huge swath of black fabric across the front. Outraged, I confronted her, but she merely smirked and lectured me condescendingly, "You don’t understand, do you? Amari is like the sky, and you should wear black, like a bride without status, so he can always keep you in check." “Women taking charge of the household only bring ruin!

Chapter 2

Jaylani’s eyes sparkled as she grabbed Amari’s arm, her voice dripping with honeyed persuasion.

"This is perfect, Amari. No one will stand in our way now."

Amari stared at me with bewilderment, surprised I’d say something like that so casually.

"You really agreed to call off the wedding? I thought you were desperate to marry me?"

Now it was my turn to be puzzled. When did I ever say I wanted to marry him?

Aunt Ivanna had only hinted at it once, and I agreed just to put her at ease.

But did that make me appear desperate in his eyes?

If anyone was rushing, it was the Freeman family.

Without Aunt Ivanna’s financial lifeline, they’d go bankrupt immediately.

Afraid I might change my mind, Jaylani was eager to get rid of me.

"Get out already! Even a second longer in our home with someone like you is just bad luck!"

I looked at Jaylani, her eyes gleaming with triumph as if she’d won some great victory.

But I shook my head. Calling off the wedding didn’t mean the score was settled.

Seeing my response, Jaylani shrieked in frustration.

"What does that mean, Malaya? Already backing out?"

"Typical of you, always talking out of both sides of your mouth!"

I frowned at Jaylani’s harsh words.

Amari also regarded me coldly, dismissing me out of hand.

"Malaya, don’t make me lose all respect for you!"

I nodded, throwing his words right back at him.

Amari looked at me, confused. "What are you trying to say?"

I pointed to the wedding dress Jaylani had destroyed, my voice icy and detached.

"That dress was worth a million dollars, ruined by your dear Jaylani. You need to compensate me now."

Jaylani spat on the ground in response.

"That old rag? Worth a million dollars? Have you lost your mind?"

Then she pointed to the tuxedo I’d cut up.

"That tux of Amari’s was five million! You better pay up now!"

Amari stood by Jaylani, watching me in agreement.

Seeing Jaylani’s arrogance, I nodded.

"I’ll pay you fifty thousand, and you owe me a million."

Jaylani immediately laid into me.

"Not only are you broke, but you’re also deaf! I said five million, not fifty thousand!"

But I knew the brand of Amari's tuxedo; it was only worth fifty thousand.

I looked deeply at Amari, considering giving him a chance.

After all, Aunt Ivanna paired us, and I didn’t want to question her judgment.

"Is that tux really five million dollars?"

To my surprise, Amari nodded along with Jaylani.

"Jaylani’s right, it’s five million."

With Amari backing her, Jaylani looked at me triumphantly.

"You heard him, right? Five million. Pay up!"

But I shook my head. "I really do have five million, but I’m not paying that for something worth fifty thousand."

Both Amari and Jaylani seemed frustrated, with Jaylani continuing her taunts.

"Your five million must be Monopoly money!"

Amari appeared to struggle to contain his anger, warning me sharply.

"Malaya, don’t take this lightly. I’m giving you a chance. Leave my house now."

"Or don’t blame me for what happens next!"

I just shook my head, "I’m not leaving until you pay me a million."

Amari was about to speak, but Jaylani cut him off.

"Amari, don’t waste your breath on someone like her. If she won’t pay, let’s call the cops."

Hearing that, I interrupted immediately.

"Don’t call the police!"

I stood frozen in the doorway of our bedroom, my hand still gripping the doorframe as if it were the only thing keeping me upright. The sheets—our wedding sheets that I'd carefully selected with embroidered edges—were tangled around two bodies. Conrad's broad shoulders were unmistakable as he lay with his arms wrapped around Melany O'Brien, the waitress from the local diner. The scent of alcohol hung heavy in the air, mingling with something else—something that made my stomach turn. My throat tightened as I tried to make sense of the scene before me. Six months. Just six months into our marriage, and here was my husband, the town sheriff who had promised to cherish me forever, in bed with another woman. "Stella?" Conrad's voice was thick with sleep as he stirred, his eyes slowly focusing on me. For one brief moment, I saw panic flash across his face before it transformed into something else entirely—concern. "Oh God, Stella," he said, sitting up abruptly.

Married to Travis Armstrong for three years. He was 35. I was not yet 21, just starting my senior year in college. I hadn't decided if I wanted to be a full-time housewife when I overheard him casually chatting with his business associates: "Chelsea, apart from being young, doesn’t bring much to the table." "Skyler is so much more sophisticated." "I'm starting to regret marrying. Keeping a younger girlfriend would be cheaper. A divorce now would be a huge loss." Without hesitation, I handed him the divorce papers. When he saw the stark terms indicating I was leaving without any claims, he let out a long sigh of relief. He then feigned generosity, saying, "I'll transfer two million dollars to you as compensation." I refused with a smile, "I'm still young. I can afford to take risks." What Travis didn't know was that my brother, Garrett, had been the one supporting him in the New York City business scene. All these years, his entry into elite circles was solely because of Garrett’s backing.

For five years, I was Brogan Walton’s shadow—a contract companion kept behind closed doors, hidden away because of a cruel, fabricated rumor about my genetic health. I lived for the moments he looked my way, even if those moments were cold and transactional. Everything shattered when he returned from London early, tossed a legal document onto the table, and coldly announced the termination of our contract. He didn't just want me gone; he wanted me erased, offering a severance package to ensure I never spoke of the life I’d traded for his protection. As I signed the papers, my chest burned with the familiar, suffocating agony of my failing heart. I watched him check his watch, his impatience a blade in my back. When the door slammed shut, I finally collapsed, clutching the pill bottle that was my only lifeline, realizing I was dying—and he didn't care. I wasn't a lover or even a person to him. The next day, I saw her—Kori Barnett, the new CEO, the woman Brogan actually loved. She looked identical to me, down to the curve of her smile. I was never a Cinderella; I was just a cheap, disposable stand-in he’d groomed to be a mirror for his true obsession. Broken and discarded, I walked into the office, dropped my badge on the desk, and finally walked away. But as I stepped onto the street, I realized the nightmare wasn't over. A predator from his past was waiting for me, and when I looked at Brogan for help, he simply rolled up his window and drove away. I realized then that I had nothing left to lose. I took a deep breath, gripped the knife in my pocket, and decided that if I was going to die, I wouldn't go down as his victim.
