Chapter 5

Ember's POV

I couldn't help but smile watching the guys play around with the boys. It's been a month now in the hospital and the boys have improved a lot these past few weeks.

Most times I just look at them and can't help the tears that fill my eyes. They were the one good thing in my life that makes me happy right now.

The day the doctor declared them to be out of danger had to be one of my best days ever. I was glad that Atlas and Levi were perfectly ok but Arabella-

Unlike the boys, the doctor said her immune system was not so strong and she was weak. I almost lost her but the doctors did all they could and the reason she is still pushing through is because of everything they've done.

Everyday that passed by I'm grateful to the moon goddess for keeping them safe for me. I don't know how I would have survived if anything had happened to them. They were the one thing keeping me going and waking me up everyday. Even when I just wanted to give up on life and just scream fuck it all, I remember that there are three angels depending on me, three angels that I can't let down and three angels that mean the world to me.

"Alec you're doing it wrongly! That's not how to carry a baby!" Tyler chuckled, holding Atlas in his hands as he watched Alec struggle with Levi.

"It's not my fault. Levi is just trying to frustrate me!" Alec complained, battling with holding Levi. I giggled finding it amusing and both guys immediately glanced at me, looking surprised. I immediately went back to frowning.

"Did you just laugh?" Tyler asked, flabbergasted and I frowned.

"Me? Laugh? You probably misheard things," I replied, denying it and he frowned, facing Alec.

"Didn't you hear her giggle just now?"

Alec gawked at me and I looked away, unable to keep up with his intense gaze. Alec had a way of forcing the truth out of you with just his eyes and I hated the fact that I can't resist his eyes.

"I heard her giggle too," Alec replied, a smile forming on his face and I frowned.

"I don't know what you guys are talking about," I huffed, still lying through my teeth.

"Mommy is a bad liar," Tyler sang, playing with the baby and I turned sharply to face him as Atlas giggled, trying to grab one of his fingers.

"Hey! Stop calling me a liar in front of my baby!" I threw a pillow at him, offended and he ducked, easily dodging it. It was only after I threw the pillow I remembered that Tyler was holding Atlas.

"OMG," I gasped, covering my mouth.

"Don't worry Ember, it's not like that little throw of yours can hit me," Tyler smirked, intentionally trying to get on my nerves and I glared at him, getting riled up already.

"Cut it out Tyler, Ember needs her rest. Provoking her won't help her rest," Alec stepped in immediately, stopping me from saying what I wanted to say to Tyler.

"You're no fun brother," Tyler rolled his eyes, looking bored and I nodded at Alec grateful.

One thing I've come to realize about the Lycan brothers is that, Tyler is the jovial and hyperactive one, always out stirring up trouble while Alec was the calm and gentle one, always ready to make peace and amends. I won't call him totally innocent because there are times where he could be a sly devil but he could also be an angel. Both brothers complimented each other well. I should be happy to have them as my mate but I was not. I didn't want a mate, especially not two.

They were both sweet and unlucky to have me as a mate. For the first two weeks I couldn't help but transfer all my hatred and pent up anger for Brandon and Emily to them but they never for once left me or got offended. It only made them try to get close to me. It was annoying and I hated the fact that they wouldn't take the memo that I didn't want them, I didn't want anybody. I just wanted to take care of my kids and have my revenge.

The next two weeks, I slowly began to warm up to them but I still found them pretty annoying. Tyler constantly tried to make me laugh and talk about myself and when I wouldn't bulge he would end up telling me about his childhood days with Alec. Alec barely had anything to say so all he did was sit beside me in silence and help me in every little way possible. As much as I enjoyed hearing tales about their childhood from Tyler, I found comfort in the silence with Alec. It felt like there was a silent communication between us in silence.

Today was literally the first time in weeks that I smiled which is why they were both shocked and thrilled. No matter what they did, one thing they have never been able to successfully get out of me was a smile but today I actually smiled after a month.

"Good afternoon, Miss November," the doctor smiled, stepping into the room and I simply nodded, acknowledging him.

"Your highness," he bowed at the twin brothers.

"Doctor Marcel, I was wondering when I was going to see you," Tyler smiled, trying to put Atlas to bed.

"I apologize for been absent. I was trying to come up with a new drug for Arabella. Her body was beginning to reject the old drug," he explained.

"Arabella, is she ok?" I asked, looking concerned.

"Not to worry Miss November, she is in great hands and responding well to treatment. In no time she will be out of the incubator like her brothers," the doctor assured me, smiling and I sighed in relief.

"Thank you, Doctor....." I paused, forgetting his name.

"Marcel," Alec completed for me.

"Thank you, Doctor Marcel," I said.

"No need to thank me, I'm only doing my job Luna," he replied and I frowned .

"It's Ember," I corrected but he simply smiled, not replying.

"Marcel, when will Ember and the boys be getting discharged?" Alec asked, looking serious and I frowned, wondering why he was asking.

"That's why I'm here actually. We've been watching Miss November and the boys for a while now and I've decided that they are fit to be discharged already," he announced and I frowned, feeling displeased. My baby girl was still in the hospital and I didn't want to leave her here all on her own.

"Can't I stay till when Arabella is ready to be discharged as well? I don't actually have anywhere to stay at the moment." I asked, frowning.

"Ummm, actually," The Doctor glanced at Alec, not knowing how to respond."

"Thank you, Marcel, we'll handle the rest from here," Alec responded, dismissing him.

"Thank you, Alpha," he sighed in relief, walking away.

"What was that for? He hasn't given me an answer to my question," I glared at him, pissed by what he just did.

"That's because he doesn't need to answer your question sweetheart," Tyler replied, grinning.

"What's that suppose to mean?"

"It means you're moving in with us Ember, you and the boys. Bells will join us when she is strong enough to leave the hospital," Alec announced, his eyes unflinching.

My mood immediately turned sour and every bone in my body shook with anger.

Who the hell do they think they are, trying to dictate and impose their decisions on me.

"We already have a room prepared for you and the kids. My sister is-"

"Who says I am moving in with you guys?" I spat coldly, cutting Tyler short.

"I....we.... Thought you didn't....." Tyler shuttered not knowing what to say while Alec remained composed, watching me scrupulously. I couldn't help but wonder what was going through that head of his.

"You said you didn't have anywhere else to go to. So Tyler and I are offering you a place in our house," Alec took over from Tyler, explaining.

"Why?"

"Because you're our mate Ember," he replied and everyone went silent.

The atmosphere in the room suddenly became tense and I hated it but I knew I couldn't ignore this issue forever. They were right, they were my mate but I didn't want them not after what Brandon did to me. They were sweet, loving and kind. I didn't deserve them. I don't even think I can ever being myself to love them. So long I was with them I would only keep hurting them because I was not capable of loving any man anymore.

"Tyler," I called.

"Yes," he looked up, expectantly, Atlas asleep in his hands.

"Alec," I called as well and he simply met my gaze, answering with his eyes.

"I, November Adams reject you both as my mate......"

The teacup slipped from my grandmother's trembling hands, shattering against the hardwood floor. The delicate china fragments scattered like snowflakes, but I barely noticed them. My eyes were fixed on her face—pale as moonlight, her lips tinged blue. "Grandma?" My voice cracked as I rushed to her side. "What's wrong?" She tried to answer, but instead of words, a rattling breath escaped her lungs. Her eyes widened in panic as she clutched at her chest. The familiar scent of her lavender perfume mixed with something sharper—fear. "Naomi..." she finally managed, her voice barely audible. "Can't... breathe..." I dropped to my knees beside her chair, my hands hovering helplessly over her frail body.

The dining room fell into an unnatural silence as I set down my fork, the soft clink against the porcelain plate echoing like a gunshot in the suddenly tense atmosphere. Nine years. Nine years of sitting at this very table, watching my mate's eyes drift to the woman seated across from me, watching my son's respect slowly erode under her influence. "I have something to announce," I said, my voice steady despite the thundering of my heart. The words I'd rehearsed a thousand times in my mind felt foreign on my tongue, but there was no turning back now. Nolan's dark eyes snapped to mine, his Alpha instincts immediately sensing the shift in the room's energy. Beside him, Ayah Stone paused with her wine glass halfway to her lips, those calculating green eyes of hers gleaming with barely concealed anticipation. Felix, my son—my beautiful, stubborn son—looked up from his phone with the same dismissive expression he'd worn whenever I tried to speak to him lately. "I intend to reject our mate bond, Nolan." The words dropped into the silence like stones into still water, sending ripples of shock through everyone present. Ayah's lips curved into the faintest smirk before she quickly schooled her features into a mask of concern.
