Expose Husband's Deceit

8.1 / 10.0
The Chicago skyline faded behind me as my flight touched down at JFK. After a week of meetings, foundation audits, and endless networking events, all I wanted was to wrap myself in Liam's arms and sink into the comfort of our home. The "Radiant Light Foundation" had been my parents' legacy, and managing it while maintaining our marriage sometimes felt like balancing on a tightrope. I smoothed my skirt—navy blue, conservative but elegant—and checked my reflection in the compact mirror. The woman staring back at me looked composed, professional. Estrella Barnes, foundation director. Not a hint of the exhaustion that had settled into my bones. "Liam?" I called out as I pushed open our front door, wheeling my carry-on behind me. "I'm home." Cooper bounded toward me first, his golden fur a blur of excitement. I dropped to my knees, burying my face in his soft coat.

Expose Husband's Deceit Chapter 1

"I'm home."

Cooper bounded toward me first, his golden fur a blur of excitement. I dropped to my knees, burying my face in his soft coat.

"There's my boy," I murmured, breathing in his familiar scent. "Did you miss me?"

That's when I noticed it—the way Cooper's nose kept darting toward my legs, sniffing frantically at my stockings. His ears were flattened against his head, tail wagging with unusual intensity.

"Cooper, what's wrong?" I laughed, trying to sound casual despite the oddness of his behavior.

Liam appeared in the doorway of our living room, his tall frame silhouetted against the afternoon light. Something was off about him—his smile didn't reach his eyes, and he kept his distance.

"Welcome back," he said, his voice lacking its usual warmth. No kiss. No embrace. Just those three words hanging in the air between us.

"The meetings went well," I offered, straightening up and reaching for him. "The Johnson donation came through, just as we hoped."

He nodded, stepping back slightly as I approached. "That's great."

I frowned, studying his face. "Is everything okay?"

"Fine, fine." He checked his watch. "I've got a conference call in fifteen minutes. We can catch up tonight."

Before I could respond, he disappeared down the hallway toward his home office, leaving me standing alone with Cooper still circling my feet.

Later that afternoon, I decided a walk might clear both our heads. Cooper needed the exercise, and I needed fresh air to shake off the lingering unease from Liam's reception.

"We'll take the long route today," I told Cooper as I clipped on his leash. "Past the Hendersons'."

The spring air was crisp as we strolled through our neighborhood. Cooper seemed calmer now, padding quietly beside me until we approached Mrs. Henderson's house. She was gardening in her front yard, wearing a simple floral dress and—yes—stockings.

"Estrella!" she called out warmly. "How was Chicago?"

Before I could answer, Cooper lunged forward, nearly yanking the leash from my grasp. He began jumping wildly around Mrs. Henderson, his nose pressed against her ankles, his entire body wiggling with an excitement I'd never seen before.

"Cooper!" I gasped, mortified as he tried to mount her leg. "Stop it!"

Mrs. Henderson stepped back, her face flushed with embarrassment. "Maybe he needs to see a trainer," she suggested gently.

I finally managed to pull Cooper away, my cheeks burning with humiliation. "I'm so sorry," I stammered. "He's never done anything like this before."

Back home, I made an appointment with Dr. Martinez, our veterinarian. This wasn't normal behavior for Cooper, who had always been so well-mannered.

The veterinary clinic smelled of antiseptic and pet food. Cooper sat quietly in my lap as Dr. Martinez examined him.

"He seems healthy physically," she said, her dark eyes kind behind wire-rimmed glasses. "But you mentioned some concerning behaviors?"

I described what had happened with Mrs. Henderson, and how Cooper had been acting strangely around my stockings.

Dr. Martinez's expression shifted subtly as she listened. She knelt down to Cooper's level, murmuring softly to him before looking up at me.

"Mrs. Barnes," she said carefully, "dogs are remarkably perceptive creatures. They learn by observation and imitation."

"What do you mean?" I asked, a chill creeping up my spine despite the warmth of the clinic.

"Cooper is displaying learned sexual behaviors," she explained gently. "Specifically, he's mimicking what he's witnessed in your home."

My mouth went dry. "What are you saying?"

She met my gaze directly. "I'm saying that Cooper has observed intimate behavior between his male owner and a woman who frequently wears stockings in your home."

The room seemed to tilt beneath me as the implications crashed down. Cooper had witnessed... Liam had brought someone into our home? Into our bed?

But how could that be? Liam would never—

Yet as I looked down at Cooper's innocent face, his warm brown eyes gazing up at me trustingly, I couldn't deny the evidence right in front of me.

And if Cooper had seen something... what else might he know about my husband that I didn't?

Three perfect years with my mate, and tonight I wanted everything to be perfect. "Do you think he'll like the surprise?" I asked my reflection, adjusting the moonstone pendant that had been my mother's. It was the last thing she'd given me before passing, and I wore it only on special occasions. My wolf, Aria, purred with satisfaction. *He'll love it. You've prepared his favorite meal.* I glanced at the dining room table, set with our finest china and candles. The roast was resting, vegetables steaming, and a bottle of aged red wine—Tyson's favorite—hidden in the car for the final touch. "He should be home any minute," I murmured, checking my phone.
My Alpha Saved His Mistress Instead of Me Novel Cover

The pack run had been Marcelo's idea. He'd announced it three days prior at the weekly council meeting, his Alpha tone leaving no room for debate. A show of unity, he'd called it. A reminder that the Black Moon Pack moved as one body, one purpose. I'd watched him from my seat at the far end of the table—the Luna's chair, though I'd stopped feeling like a Luna months ago—and said nothing. Petra Voss had nodded approvingly. The other council members had murmured their agreement. Rosalina, seated closer to Marcelo than protocol allowed, had smiled that soft, adoring smile she always wore around him. I should have known then. The territory's northern river was swollen from early spring melt, the current fast and mean.
