Chapter 6

STRANGE FAMILIAR COLOGNE In the twinkle of an eye, Mellisa was already in the elevator. The ride to the down floor was slower than usual. However, she made use of the opportunity to text the CEO manager of the company.  The way she ran past some staff and clients made them tilt their heads.  Internally, they'd be wondering if she's mentally stable. But she doesn't care; she doesn't joke about anything related to her kids. ~~~~<~~~~ On reaching the main road, book a cab heading to the hospital. Ten minutes on the road-the hospital kept on calling.  Like her son was at the edge of death. However, they were stuck in traffic. 'Get here in an hour.' She got a text from the hospital email. "Shit! Why this silly traffic today?" She was freaking out, tapping her legs impatiently. Roughly an hour later, the cab pulled into the Crestwood General Hospital. The CRESTWOOD HOSPITAL boldly written at the front of the tall building was terrifying. Melissa literally flew out of the car before the car came to rest. Her breath was fast and shaky, like she'd run all the way. "This is your balance, ma'am." "You can keep that," Mellisa said to the chauffeur and hurried towards the entrance of the hospital.  She spotted a familiar figure walking across and entering a ward. Before she could process it, the woman was gone.  Shit! She was actually here for her son. Thus, as she progressed into the hospital, she saw a nurse, wearing a white gown, holding a pen and a book, taking down records.  Melissa tapped her slightly from behind.  "Hello nurse, good afternoon. My five-year-old son was brought in here in an emergency, and -- "Liam Parker, right?" The nurse chipped in before she could finish. "That's him; please take me to his ward." She pleaded. "I need to see my son." However, she wasn't amazed the nurse could recognise her as Liam's mom. Liam has striking resemblances to Derek. She hated that people could tell they were father and son if seen together. However, he has some of her physical features. "Right away, ma'am," the nurse said, leading the way. She followed swiftly. Her prayer since her journey to the hospital was.  'Lord, let this not be a critical condition.' The hospital was really busy, with nurses pushing patients on gurneys and patients waiting for doctors' appointments. She really hates it here. As they went deeper, disinfectant and antiseptic hit her nose; it made her want to puke. The last time she visited the hospital was when something really terrible happened to Ella. "In there!" The nurse said when they got to the emergency ward, Liam was. "Right, thanks." Melissa said, walking towards the door already. "That's his mom." Someone said immediately she cracked the door open. It was obvious; it was one of his school teachers who sent it. "Good you are here, ma'am." The doctor said, Mellisa didn't spare them another glance but rushed to where her son was." Her heart skipped at the sight of him; he was breathing, but it felt like he wasn't breathing at all or he was struggling to breathe. "Doctor, What's wrong with my son?" She cried out, her eyes stinging with tears. Apart from being naturally emotional, she'd go extra when it came to her kids. "Liam passed out in the school playground during break, ma'am." "And?" She said and lifted an eyebrow at the doctor; his face wasn't looking bright. Those are the expressions doctors give when something's wrong. "He'll be fine. Be calm," the Doctor mouthed. "Umm, several tests had been done before your arrival and-"  "Can you tell me already?" Her voice was sharper than she intended. The Doctor was taking forever to land. "He has hypoglycaemia." "What?" She gasped, her heart beating. The word sounded like a serious condition. "He has low sugar." The doctor said, seeing how she panicked. She exhales deeply. "That medical word fucking scares me to think it was-."  "Yes, it is more serious than you think, and if we don't start medication right away, we might end up losing him." "Hell no, that's not happening." The doctor adjusted the rim of his glasses, clenching his file tighter. "Alright, head to admin, settle the payment, and we'll get the glucose drip started ASAP." With that, he took an excuse and left Melissa with the chubby, short, cooperatively dressed woman. "He'll be fine, Ma." The teacher said to Mellisa, seeing the fear in her face. Mellisa nodded. "Thanks for bringing him so quickly." The teacher smiled. "I'll be on my way. The school will keep in touch." "Alright." Melissa said, almost teary, 'Being a single mother isn't an easy job.' She's shouldering it all alone, with no partner to share the load.  A moment later, after the teacher left, her phone pinged and the screen lit up. "Hello Mellisa, I hope you're okay? I don't know what this weird feeling I am having is." Melissa didn't have to rack her brain. She knew it was Derek. Was he feeling her pain or that of the children he knows nothing about? The bond was still intact? What if he can smell his pups? However, her brain kicked in, and she quickly rushed out of the ward to settle the bill, so treatment could be administered to her son. However, she kept on rereading the message he sent; each read increased the pounding in her chest. "Who the damn gave you my contact, Derek? And if you must know, I'm good; stop visiting or texting anymore. Blocking you right away." She quickly typed this, and without reviewing, she sent it and blocked him ASAP. Just then, a strange familiar cologne hit her nostril. Suffocating.  She knew exactly who wore this scent. THAT DEMON OF A BETRAYAL!
