Después de algunos días me incorporo a la empresa y no tengo ni una semana en mi nuevo empleo, cuando siento el impulso de querer envenenar el café de mi jefe, pero sé que darían con el responsable en un abrir y cerrar de ojos, además de que eso destrozaría a mis padres.

—¡Señorita Bennett! —grita desde su oficina, cierro los ojos y me concentro para no gritarle que use el maldito teléfono que tiene en su oficina para pedirme las cosas de buen modo, me levanto y toco a su puerta—, ¿por qué tardo tanto en llegar? Su escritorio solo está a unos cuantos pasos de mi oficina.

—¿Qué se le ofrece, señor Cavalluci? —pregunto ignorando su ponzoña de esta mañana.

—Esta noche tendré una cena con algunos posibles clientes, por lo que usted debe de acompañarme.

—No me había informado nada.

—Ahora ya lo sabe, ¿o es que no puede asistir? —inquiere con un tono de voz que no augura nada bueno si es que me niego.

—Para nada jefe, ahí estaré, como siempre me avisa a última hora —murmuro esto último tan bajo que no logra escucharme, ya que de lo contrario sus berridos serían como una explosión regándose por todo el edificio.

—Haga la reservación en el restaurante de siempre, después vaya al departamento legal y busque al abogado De Santis, pídale que prepare los contratos correspondientes.

—¿Quiénes son esos clientes? —inquiero anotando todo en mi tablet.

—Es una marca de vestidos de novia, debe de recordar el nombre —responde fulminándome con la mirada como si yo tuviese la culpa de su demencia senil precoz.

—Ya recuerdo es Bridal´s Romero & Dumont, ¿cuántas personas estarán en la cena? —pregunto forzando una sonrisa.

—Seremos cuatro, los dueños y usted quien debe de ir conmigo.

—Perfecto, cuando tenga todo listo le aviso, con su permiso jefe —cierro la puerta y hago como si lo estuviese ahorcando, después de mi pequeña fantasía casi orgásmica, una sensación de alivio me inunda el cuerpo, acomodo mi ropa y comienzo con mi labor.

Durante el resto del día la paso subiendo y bajando por todo el edificio, haciendo mil y un recados para mi jefe, de tal forma que cuando llega mi hora del almuerzo bajo a la cafetería de empleados y pido algo ligero, para llevarlo a mi lugar de trabajo y comerlo ahí, mientras continúo trabajando para el tirano del demonio quien si salió muy puntual rumbo a su restaurante favorito.

Al final de mi jornada laboral comienzo a estirarme como un gato de azotea en un intento por liberarme de la tensión del día, cuando mi jefe me frena con su odiosa voz de fondo.

—Quiere dejar de hacer eso en la oficina, da mala imagen, además, ¿se imagina lo que pensaría un cliente si la ve haciendo eso en horas laborales? Que usted no está calificada para tener el cargo que ostenta —pregunta y se responde él mismo con su lengua viperina, ahora entiendo por qué su anterior asistente huyo. Por muy guapo que sea, ¿quién aguantaría ese humor del demonio que se carga? Es como si odiase a todas las mujeres.

—Lo siento jefe, no volverá a suceder, al menos no cuando usted me vea —respondo en un murmullo.

—¿Qué dijo? —inquiere mirándome con el ceño fruncido.

—A esta hora es imposible que llegue algún cliente, ya son más de las siete de la noche —sin poder contenerme me defiendo apretando mis manos en puños.

—No entiendo cómo fue que la contraté, si en el poco tiempo que tiene trabajando para mí la he escuchado quejarse más de lo que lo hacían mis anteriores asistentes.

Estoy por responderle que solo lo soportaban, por qué deseaban saltar a su cama, pero cuando veo que sus ojos azules se vuelven casi negros debido a que su enojo está llegando a su máximo punto de ebullición, guardo silencio, he decidido que no es momento de tentar al diablo, por lo menos no hoy.

—Es hora de ir a la cena, la espero en el estacionamiento —comenta antes de darse la vuelta y encaminarse al ascensor.

En cuanto desaparece lanzó un grito y le dedico mis mejores malas palabras destinadas a este repugnante ser, que es tan insensible a tal extremo que encabeza el primer lugar de las personas que más odio, aunque de momento es el único que figura en ella.

Cuando llegó al subterráneo me apresuró a subir al auto de mi jefe y justo cuando me estoy acomodando en el asiento delantero comienza con sus reclamos.

—¿Por qué se sentó adelante, señorita Bennett? —inquiere fulminándome por el espejo retrovisor.

—Por qué no quiero que se me impregne el olor a azufre —murmuro tan bajito que me parece, nadie pudo escucharme, sin embargo, cuando Paolo lanza una pequeña carcajada la cual oculta, fingiendo toser, al instante lo miro mordiendo mi labio inferior con temor a que me vaya a delatar con nuestro querido jefe y conociéndolo es capaz de bajarme de su auto gritándome que estoy despedida, algo que no me gustaría, ya que no me apetece llegar a pie hasta mi casa. Llámenme interesada, pero me he acostumbrado a los lujos que me ha proporcionado mi jefe en estos pocos días.

—¿Estás bien Paolo? —le cuestiona nuestro jefe con evidente preocupación, demasiada diría yo.

—Sí, jefe. Lo siento es solo que creo que estoy por resfriarme —responde con naturalidad.

—Señorita Bennett, que espera para pasarse acá atrás, necesito discutir algunos puntos con usted sobre esta cena.

—Vamos, señorita Reyyan, atrás estará más cómoda —comenta Paolo con una sonrisa asomando por sus labios, se acerca a mí y me ayuda a desabrochar el cinturón, lo cual toma como excusa para susurrarme al oído—: tal vez el olor a azufre combine bien con su dulce perfume.

—¡Paolo! —gimoteo aferrándome al cinturón como si fuese una pequeña sanguijuela, este me lanza una sonrisa malvada y tan rápido como el aleteo de un pájaro arrebata el cinturón de mis manos para después abrir la puerta y darme un ligero empujón.
