Earning Billions From My Cruel Fiancé

My family's bankruptcy left me with no choice: I was sold to Julian Beaumont IV, a merciless billionaire, to settle their debts. Trapped in his estate and bound to a strange app that froze my assets, I endured his cruelty—his Doberman set loose on me, starvation as punishment, and a blacklist that killed any hope of escape. Then, during a violent thunderstorm, I found him weeping in terror at the bruises on my neck, with no memory of causing them. The truth shattered me: Julian's mind is fractured, and his hidden alter-ego is dangerously obsessed with me. Now, I must decide whether to run or wield his madness as my only weapon.

Chapter 3

Chloe tilted her head back, the cool, effervescent liquid of the San Pellegrino sliding down her parched throat. It was a small relief, a moment of normalcy in a day that had been anything but.

The relief was short-lived.

A shrill, punishing buzz erupted from her phone. The app's screen flashed with a deduction notice. UNAUTHORIZED CONSUMPTION OF BEAUMONT ASSETS: -10 SURVIVAL POINTS.

Before she could even process the message, a new one appeared. SYSTEM VIOLATION. HUNGER PENALTY ACTIVATED.

A vicious cramp seized her stomach, twisting her insides into a tight, agonizing knot. It was a real, physical pain, so sudden and intense it stole her breath.

She doubled over with a strangled gasp. The glass bottle slipped from her numb fingers, thudding softly onto the thick carpet and spilling water in a dark, spreading stain.

Clutching her midsection, she stumbled to the bed and collapsed onto it, curling into a fetal position. Cold sweat beaded on her forehead. This wasn't just hunger; it was a torturous, amplified sensation, as if she hadn't eaten in days. The system wasn't just punishing her; it was torturing her.

"You son of a bitch," she whispered to the empty room, cursing the faceless, tyrannical app. She forced herself to take slow, deep breaths, trying to ride out the waves of pain.

Time bled away. The sun dipped below the horizon, and the sky outside the large window bruised from orange to a deep, inky purple. Los Angeles, in a rare display of moodiness, unleashed a sudden, violent rainstorm.

Thunder rumbled, a low, menacing growl that seemed to shake the very foundations of the mansion. The sound masked any other noises in the house, isolating her further. Sleep was impossible. The gnawing pain in her stomach was a constant, demanding presence.

She couldn't just lie here and starve. She had to do something. She had to find the kitchen, find food, and find a way to piss Julian off enough to earn it.

Pushing herself up, she swayed for a moment before finding her balance. She went to her suitcase and pulled out a simple, thin slip of silk that passed for a nightgown. It was deliberately chosen-to look vulnerable, pitiful.

Barefoot, she padded across the carpet to the door. She turned the handle slowly, praying it wouldn't make a sound. It opened with a soft click. She peeked out into the hallway. It was dark, lit only by the faint, flickering glow of a single wall sconce.

She crept out, one hand trailing along the wall for support, her stomach cramping with every step. She had to get downstairs.

As she reached the turn in the main staircase, a sound drifted up from the floor below, weaving through the crashes of thunder. It was a low, mournful melody, played on a cello. The notes were rich and full of a sorrow so profound it seemed to seep into the walls.

Curiosity warred with her hunger. The kitchen could wait.

She changed course, following the sound down a long, dark corridor toward the back of the estate. It led her to a massive glass conservatory, a greenhouse filled with the dark shapes of exotic plants.

Through the rain-streaked glass, she saw him. A tall, slender figure, his back to her, sitting amongst a forest of flowers, the cello resting between his knees. He drew the bow across the strings, and another wave of heartbreaking music filled the air.

It had to be Julian. Who else could it be? A cold smirk touched her lips. What was this? Some kind of moody, artistic display meant to intimidate her?

She pushed open the heavy glass door. The hinges let out a soft squeak.

The man inside startled, the music stopping abruptly. He whipped his head around, his eyes wide.

At that exact moment, a bolt of lightning tore across the sky, illuminating the conservatory in a stark, blue-white flash. It lit up his face-a face identical to Julian's, but stripped of all its cruelty and arrogance. In its place was a raw, naked panic.

His eyes were clear, innocent, and terrified. He looked like a deer caught in the headlights of an oncoming truck.

He scrambled to his feet, his movements clumsy and uncoordinated. He fumbled with the cello, nearly dropping it, and in his haste, he knocked over the metal music stand with a loud clatter.

Chloe froze in the doorway, her mind racing. Was this a trick? An elaborate act to mess with her head?

"A-are you lost?" he stammered. His voice was soft, gentle, with a hesitant, breathy quality that was the polar opposite of Julian's commanding baritone.

She seized on the detail. He had called her "ma'am." Not the bankrupt parasite, not the Tang family's trash.

Testing the waters, she took a deliberate step forward.

He flinched back as if she were a threat, bumping into a large rose trellis behind him. A thorny vine snagged the sleeve of his shirt, scratching a thin red line across the back of his hand. He let out a small, pained hiss, bringing the scratch to his lips.

The shock hit Chloe with the force of a physical blow. The man before her, in his reactions, his voice, his very essence, was not Julian Beaumont IV. He couldn't be.

And in that moment of stunning realization, another thought, cold and calculating, took root. This was an opportunity. A gold mine.

Her entire demeanor shifted. The suspicion vanished, replaced by a mask of gentle concern.

She closed the distance between them and softly took his injured hand in hers. "You're bleeding," she murmured, her voice laced with a sympathy she didn't feel.

His head snapped up, his eyes wide. A dark blush crept up his neck, flooding his cheeks. He stared at her, his lips parted slightly, utterly speechless.

Her phone, silent in her pocket, suddenly emitted a strange, melodic chime she had never heard before.
