Divorced Him, Married My Best Friend's Brother Novel Cover

Divorced Him, Married My Best Friend's Brother

For three years, Chloe Beaumont was the flawless Mrs. Santana, the envy of New York society. Then at a glamorous gala, she caught her wealthy husband Elliott kissing his supposedly burned-out college flame. Fleeing home, she noticed a strange herbal scent in the warm milk her mother-in-law forced on her nightly. Feigning sleep, she overheard the truth: they had been drugging her to make her infertile, because the mistress was pregnant with the family's heir. When the mistress shattered her late mother's only memento, Elliott defended the other woman and blamed Chloe. That night, the submissive wife died. Leaving signed divorce papers and her wedding ring, she walked out of the golden cage. With a powerful childhood protector behind her, Chloe vows to reclaim her empire and make them pay.

Chapter 2

The car crunched to a halt on the gravel driveway of the Santana townhouse. Chloe stepped out, her face unreadable stone. She walked through the grand foyer, ignoring the concerned greeting from Maria White, the housekeeper.

She went straight to the master bedroom on the second floor. The lingering scent of Elliott's cologne hung in the air, making her stomach turn. She stripped off the silver gown, letting it pool on the floor like shed skin. She stepped into the marble bathroom and twisted the shower to cold. The water hit her skin like a shock, but no amount of it could scrub the night from her memory.

Ten minutes later, wrapped in a thick robe, she emerged. On the nightstand sat a glass of warm milk, a nightly ritual enforced by her mother-in-law, Eleanor Santana. Once, she had seen it as a gesture of care. Now, it felt like a lie.

She picked up the glass, walked to the window overlooking the rose garden, and without a second's hesitation, poured the milk into the soil of a potted plant. As the last drops fell, a faint, unfamiliar scent hit her—a strange herbal odor mixed with the creaminess. She paused, brought the empty glass to her nose, and sniffed. It was subtle, but it was there. She was certain it hadn't been there before.

A chilling thought began to form, connecting this strange smell to her recent fatigue, her irregular cycles. A terrible possibility bloomed in the darkness of her mind.

Just then, a car engine cut through the night. Elliott was home. His voice was followed by the softer, gentler tones of his mother, Eleanor. Instinct took over. Chloe flicked off the bedroom lights, slid into bed, and pulled the covers up to her chin. She closed her eyes, forcing her breathing to become slow and even—a perfect imitation of sleep.

Minutes later, the bedroom door creaked open. The footsteps were light, almost silent. Eleanor. She sensed the woman's presence beside the bed—still, waiting. Eleanor leaned closer, inspecting her "sleeping" form. "Sleep, my poor child," she murmured. The tenderness in her voice felt like a razor wrapped in silk. Convinced she was asleep, Eleanor turned and left, leaving the door slightly ajar.

The moment she was gone, Chloe's eyes snapped open. She slipped out of bed, bare feet silent on the plush carpet. She crept to the door, peering through the crack into the hallway.

Elliott stood at the far end, his face a mixture of guilt and impatience. "Mom, do we really have to do this? That drug..."

Eleanor's laugh was a low, sharp hiss. Her voice, though quiet, was filled with an unyielding authority. "What else? She's had two years and nothing. The Santana family can't wait forever. Clio is pregnant. That is the heir our family needs."

The revelation hit Chloe like a physical blow. Pregnant.

"But... to make Chloe infertile... that's too much." Elliott's voice wavered. He rubbed the back of his neck.

"Silence!" Eleanor snapped, her voice dropping to a vicious whisper.

"As long as she is the obedient Mrs. Santana, Clio's child can be raised under this roof. When she is no longer Mrs. Santana, the child will already have the inheritance secured. By then, the title won't matter. This is for the family, Elliott. Get rid of your pathetic guilt."

Behind the door, Chloe clamped a hand over her own mouth, biting down hard to keep from screaming. It wasn't just an affair. It was a conspiracy. A cold, calculated plot to leave her barren and discarded.

Her world, already fractured, now crumbled to dust.

"Don't forget," Eleanor continued, her voice cold as steel, "we still need the prestige her Beaumont name brings. Until she's lost her value, you will keep her calm."

Elliott was silent for a long moment. Finally, he gave a defeated reply. "... I understand."

Their footsteps faded down the hall. Chloe leaned against the cold wood of the door, her body shaking with a rage so profound it felt like a physical illness. She slid to the floor, the tears finally coming. They streamed down her face in silence, hot trails on her cold skin. Her eyes, when she finally looked up at her reflection in the dark window, were no longer just frozen. They were filled with a terrifying, murderous light.

She pulled out her phone. Her fingers trembled, but her actions were firm. She opened a search browser and typed: "best divorce lawyer in New York." She couldn't wait. She had to get out of this hell. Now.

Her eyes fell on the glass she'd set aside—the one that had held the milk. She carefully wrapped it in a plastic bag from her travel kit. Her first piece of evidence.

Looking at her pale, ravaged face in the mirror, she knew the old Chloe Beaumont was dead. The woman who stared back was a survivor. A revenger. And she would make them pay for what they had done. In blood.
