Chapter 3

Briar also tensed up for a moment, but remembering that it was around my period days, his eyes filled with disgust. "That's really gross. Hurry up and get back to your room to change!"

Selene heard this and tried to turn to look, but he covered her eyes. "Don't look, it will bring us bad luck!"

Briar spoke to her gently, but his words were chilling.

The pain in my lower abdomen felt like a sharp steel needle mercilessly piercing my nerves.

I involuntarily curled up, biting my lower lip, trying my best to stay calm. "Briar, this isn't my period. I might be having a miscarriage. Can you take me to..."

Hearing this, a flicker of emotion crossed Briar's eyes.

The next second, Selene said, "Melody, your way of trying to get attention is so cliché. Knowing your personality, if you were pregnant, you would've told Briar already. How could you only be saying it now?"

All the coincidences, in her words, became intentional.

Briar's face darkened instantly as he scolded, "Get inside! Stop embarrassing yourself out here!"

I was in too much pain to stand, leaning on the table without moving.

I thought about reaching for my phone to call 911. I pulled out my phone, about to dial, when Selene feigned innocence, "It's just ordinary period bleeding. Calling 911? Isn't that a waste of public resources?"

Hearing this, Briar swiftly snatched my phone and smashed it on the ground.

"If you want to throw a tantrum, go ahead. But I won't let you cause unnecessary trouble for anyone!"

He dragged me mercilessly towards the bedroom, ignoring my struggles.

"Briar, I really am pregnant!"

"Please, I'm begging you, let me go to the hospital. I'm in so much pain..."

"Briar..."

For the sake of the baby, I set aside all my pride and pleaded with him pathetically.

He ignored my cries and insisted on dragging me into the room. "You think it's fun to spout nonsense? We checked during the pre-marital exam, you can barely get pregnant. Now you're lying about being pregnant? Looks like you need to be taught a lesson!"

"You're going to stay here until you've reflected on your actions!"

Then he closed the door, leaving me in despair.

As I struggled to open the door, I heard the lock click from the outside.

Tears blurred my face as I weakly knocked on the door, crying, "Let me out! Briar, if you don't let me out now, you'll regret it!"

As my voice rang out, a faint cheer could be heard from outside the door.

They had started a new round of their game.

"Briar, you lost again. Do you choose truth or dare?"

Briar glanced at Selene beside him and decisively chose dare.

"Alright, this time your task is to use your mouth to undress the person of the opposite sex to your left..."

"Selene, be careful sis, if you take that off, there'll only be one piece left..."

The atmosphere reached its peak as they cheered excitedly.

Completely blind to my suffering.

My knocks on the door grew weaker with each attempt.

Blood was pouring from between my legs, quickly spreading across the floor.

Thinking of the little one not yet fully formed in my belly, tears of regret slid down my cheeks.

Sweetheart, Mommy's so sorry. I can't let you see this beautiful world.

As more blood flowed, I gradually felt something silently slipping away.

No, I can't. I can't die like this.

I struggled, gritting my teeth as I crawled to the window.

Using the windowsill for support, I shouted with all my strength: "Is anyone there? Help me, save my baby..." My body was too weak, my voice as small as an ant's, impossible for others to hear.

In a daze, I caught sight of the alarm clock on the bedside table.

Trembling, I wobbled over to grab the clock, noticing people strolling below in the courtyard of the apartment complex.

I aimed carefully, making sure not to hit anyone, and tossed the clock down.

Soon, cursing voices echoed from below.

Seeing I had caught someone's attention, hope flickered in my eyes as I eagerly awaited someone to come knocking.

But the people downstairs just grumbled a bit and then went quiet.

I looked up in despair.

Was I doomed to simply wait for death?

He had stormed out, leaving her to painstakingly tape the shredded pieces back together. Her love, however, didn't die, not even when he brought Kisha home and told her to call her "sister-in-law."
