Discovered His Will, Faked My Death

Discovered His Will, Faked My Death

After seven years of marriage, I discovered my billionaire husband Grayson' s will. He was leaving his entire fortune not to me, but to his young protégée, Kira. My life was a lie; I was just a placeholder, a womb for the heir his mistress couldn't carry. When I demanded a divorce, he laughed. "You're pregnant, Elyse. And you think you're just going to walk away with my child?" He tore up the papers, threatening to use his immense power to take our baby. Then Kira, his mistress, showed up at my door, confirming my worst fear: Grayson wanted my child to raise as his and hers. She even sent me a photo of him asleep in her bed, wearing the pajamas I bought him, with a chilling message. "He hopes our baby has a dimple too. For me." I was chosen because I resembled her. My son was meant to be her child. That night, I vanished. The news later reported a pregnant woman, identified by my wedding ring, had died in a clinic fire. But I was already on a plane, my hand on my belly, escaping to a new life.

Chapter 7

Elyse POV: The new city buzzed with a different kind of energy, a warmth I hadn't felt in years. My first stop was the local hospital. There, I could focus on what truly mattered: a healthy pregnancy. The nurses and doctors were kind, their accents soft and welcoming. One afternoon, a cheerful nurse bustled in, checking my vitals. She glanced at the TV screen on the wall, a news report playing softly. "Oh, that poor woman," she sighed, shaking her head. "Such a tragedy. And her husband, the poor man. He's been beside himself with grief, they say. A tech billionaire, no less." My eyes, almost against my will, drifted to the screen. A man lay on a hospital bed, his face pale, surrounded by concerned doctors. It was Grayson. He had apparently gone mad when he heard the news. Refused to believe it. Demanded that every resource be used to find me, even though the body was "identified." He couldn't accept that I was gone. Not without "his" child. I watched, a strange detachment settling over me. He wasn't grieving me. He was grieving his lost heir. His plans shattered. The news report then shifted to a chaotic scene: Grayson and Kira. Screaming at each other in public. A full-blown brawl. Their relationship, built on deceit and manipulation, had imploded. The scandal sent his company's stock plummeting. Rivals circled, vultures sensing weakness. The board, once loyal, now questioned his leadership. I felt nothing. No satisfaction. No pity. It was simply the logical consequence of his actions. Their actions. It had nothing to do with me anymore. I rested my hand on my belly, feeling a gentle flutter. A wave of profound peace washed over me. This was my world now. This was my happiness. I just had to wait for him to arrive. The day came sooner than expected. My waters broke prematurely. The hospital staff rushed me to the delivery room. The pain was excruciating, a primal force that threatened to consume me. My vision blurred, and in the haze, I was transported back in time. Ten years ago. A younger Grayson. His face streaked with blood, but his eyes, so full of tenderness, as he carefully wiped the blood from my arm. "Elyse," he'd whispered, his voice thick with emotion, "I swear, I will make you the happiest woman alive. My entire future belongs to you." He had promised me everything. He had even sworn, "If I ever betray you, may God strike me down." I had waited. Ten years. For that promise to come true. Why, Grayson, why did you let it all turn to dust? You swore an oath. And now... "Push, Elyse! You can do it!" the nurse urged. Tears and sweat streamed down my face, blurring the past with the present. I pushed with every fiber of my being. A raw, guttural cry tore through the room. Then, a different sound. A tiny, indignant wail. My baby. "It's a boy!" the doctor announced, her voice cheerful. "And he's perfectly healthy! Look at those cheeks!" The nurse brought him to me, a tiny bundle of wrinkled perfection. He opened his eyes, then gave a small, sleepy yawn, a tiny dimple appearing on his left cheek. My dimple. My perfect, beautiful boy. He looked nothing like Grayson. And everything like me. I took him into my arms, holding him close, inhaling his sweet, milky scent. He nestled against me, a soft, warm weight. In that moment, all the pain, all the betrayal, all the years of heartbreak, simply melted away. They meant nothing. Absolutely nothing. I sobbed, tears of pure joy and relief. Ten years of loving the wrong man. Ten years of heartbreak. It was all erased. Because now, I had the most precious treasure in the world. "Leo," I whispered, my voice thick with emotion. "My little lion. My strength." I would give him a life full of love, a life free from the shadows of his father's deceit. After we were discharged, I dove back into my work as a freelance designer. The pay wasn't high, but it offered the flexibility I needed. I found a charming little house with a sunny courtyard, and I filled it with vibrant flowers. Leo thrived. He was bright, happy, and so loved. His dimples grew deeper, mirroring mine, and his eyes, his smile, they were all me. There was no trace of Grayson in him. None. His first word was "Mama." His first steps were into my arms. His first bite of food, offered from his tiny chopsticks, was for me. Every moment with him, every laugh, every milestone, erased another painful memory. I knew, without a doubt, that he would never feel the weight of my past. He would only know love. Pure, unconditional love.
