Contact All You Want
Chapter 2
They wanted to take everything of mine away, but I refused to let them do so.
Long before my health deteriorated, I had already donated everything I had. Even if I died, I would not leave them a single penny.
Even so, my heart was still filled with regret when I looked at those two. Why did I give up my life for a woman? Was a woman really worth wasting a lifetime on?
…
On my way home, I was stopped by my neighbor, Mary Darcy. Her eyes were filled with envy. "Luke, you're really lucky! I saw Rachel come home with a computer today. They're rare. Let's hurry over. Let me have a look!"
As she spoke, she took my arm and walked home. She also wanted to join in and have a look at the new, exciting things.
I wanted to tell her that there was no need to be so excited. After all, I was well aware that the computer was not prepared for me.
My parents passed away early, so the workshop took back the house that was assigned to my family. It was at that time that Betty took me in, and I began to live under someone else's roof.
Just as the words were on the tip of my tongue, I swallowed them back and let Mary follow me home.
The Jackson family was well-off, so their house was naturally the most impressive in the entire alley. It had three bedrooms, and it was spacious and bright.
Rachel almost always stayed in her dorm and never came home. Today was no exception.
Upon entering the house, I did not see the computer.
Mary looked around, her brow furrowing slightly. Then, she winked at my bedroom as if she just remembered something. "Luke, is it in your room?"
Before I could answer, an excited voice from next door answered her question. "Rachel, you're so good to me! With a computer, I can teach you a foreign language!"
Hearing that, Mary's eyes widened instantly. She grabbed me aggressively and kicked open the door to the next unit.
It was the first time I had seen Rachel since my rebirth. She was gently wiping the sweat from Logan's forehead with a handkerchief.
Seeing me at the doorway, Logan smiled smugly and raised his hand to greet me. "Luke, you're back? Perfect timing! Rachel just gave me a computer. I'll cook for you tonight as a thank you. You should try my cooking!"
Logan was handsome, tall, dashing, and with eyes that shone like stars. He was wearing a suit, a style rarely seen in that era. The collar of his shirt was slightly open, revealing his well-defined muscles.
I looked at Rachel again, noticing her slightly protruding belly. I suddenly found my past self incredibly foolish. It was obviously a baby bump, yet I had mistaken it for just weight gain.
Before I could speak, Mary could not hold back any longer. She pointed at the computer and said sarcastically, "Oh dear, I thought something this expensive was a gift from Rachel to her fiancé. Turns out, a pretty boy like you snatched it for yourself."
Rachel frowned slightly. "Him? He didn't even graduate from high school. Does he even know what a computer is? Logan is preparing for postgraduate entrance exams and has to tutor me in a foreign language, so he needs this computer even more."
Logan looked down to meet her gaze, his eyes filled with undisguised affection.
Mary keenly sensed something. She opened her mouth but seemed to realize that it was inappropriate. She turned to me, urging me to speak with the look in her eyes.
I glanced at the computer. With memories from my past life, I did not have much desire for it. However, why should I let this pretty boy get away with this?
I smiled slightly. "Isn't he an elite who returned from studying at a prestigious university? Why is he taking the postgraduate entrance exams? Since I have a lower educational background, isn't it more important for me to upskill myself?"
Rachel's face flashed with guilt. She knew she had forced me out of my job, and I indeed needed the opportunity to learn more than Logan, but she replied vaguely, "You're not in a hurry. You can buy one yourself next month when you get paid."
"But you know it's very difficult for me to buy a computer." I retorted directly.
Rachel fell silent.
Under Mary's piercing gaze, Rachel finally could not bring herself to refuse and turned to Logan. "Logan, I'll try to get you another computer in the future, okay?"
Logan's smile vanished instantly. He personally unplugged the computer and placed it at the door, his face grim. "Since Luke dislikes you giving me things, I don't think there's any need to spend money on me anymore!"
With that said, he slammed the door shut.
Back home, Rachel's face was frighteningly sullen. "Are you satisfied now? You're even fighting over a computer. When did you become so materialistic?"
I ignored her and turned on the computer. Once connected to the internet, I would be able to obtain more business opportunities.
Seeing that I was ignoring her, Rachel became even angrier and got up to block the screen. "I'm warning you. Since you've taken the computer, you have to give up the workshop opportunity to Logan!"
