Chapter 5

CAMILE

I woke up, and for a split second, I didn't remember where I was.

The sheets didn't smell like my house. The bed was too big, too soft. My body felt... sore, warm, heavy. My cheeks heated instantly.

Oh gods.

Last night.

I swallowed hard, eyes darting around and landing right on Arlo.

He lay on his stomach, one arm stretched carelessly across the bed, hair messy, lips parted slightly. Completely unbothered. Completely naked.

I jerked my gaze away so fast I almost hurt myself because if I stared any longer, the memories would hit me too hard.

And they were already hitting me hard enough.

Kael wasn't there. Of course, he wasn't. He looked like the type to wake up early, smooth his hair, drink coffee, and read through business emails while completely nude.

"Oh God," I whispered into my palms, mortified.

I need to leave.

I slid slowly off the bed, biting back a little gasp at the soreness in my thighs, and began to wear my clothes, trying not to wake Arlo up.

Within seconds, I was tiptoeing to the door, my fingers curled around the doorknob.

Only to walk straight into a wall of warm, bare skin.

I gasped, stumbling back.

Kael stood there. Stark naked. Completely unapologetic. A mug of coffee in his hand like this was the most normal morning in the universe.

His eyes flashed bright amber, hinting at his wolf.

My eyes traveled across his body before I could stop them, widened when they reached the flaccid monster between his legs, then shot straight to the wall because I did not need that mental image permanently etched into my soul.

Too late.

"Good morning," Kael said mildly, tilting his head. "And where exactly are you trying to sneak off to?"

" I-I'm leaving," I managed, staring very intently at the wall.

"Leaving? Already?" His brows rose in genuine surprise. "Most girls stay for morning rounds."

My jaw dropped.

Okay, rude!

"Well, I'm not like most girls."

"No, you're not," he murmured, amusement softening his tone.

Before I could respond, a voice rumbled from behind me.

"Early morning sex is way fun, Camile," Arlo muttered, "you shouldn't run when we can still make you cum a couple of times."

I jumped, whirling around to find Arlo standing right behind me, a grin tugging at the corners of his lips, bearing his extended canines suggestively.

And also naked

Dear Moon Goddess, why were they both naked? Why was I sandwiched between two giant, naked, very well-endowed alphas at seven in the morning?

"Y-You were asleep just now," I stammered.

Arlo smirked. "You were not exactly as quiet as you thought you were."

"So you're leaving us just like that?" Kael's warm breath brushed my shoulder from behind, and I turned back to face him.

"I'm serious," I blurted. "Last night was a mistake. A one-time thing. We're not-we're never doing that again."

Arlo laughed under his breath, low and rough. "You think we're done with you? We've barely even started with you, Camile."

"We'll see you again, Love," Kael's voice dipped to that dangerous softness. "That's not up for debate."

My heartbeat kicked painfully fast.

"You won't," I insisted. "We probably won't even run into each other again."

Arlo's lips curved. "Sweetheart, we don't 'run into' people. If we want to see you, we'll see you."

My breath caught. I swallowed, gathering whatever dignity I still had.

"I have to go."

"Fine," Kael sighed lightly, then shifted just enough for me to breathe again. "But you're not leaving on your own."

"I can manage."

"No," they both said at the same time, with enough Alpha energy behind their words that left no room for debate.

"We're calling you a ride," Arlo said. "You're not walking out looking like you can barely stand."

Heat flooded my entire body. "I can stand."

Kael's eyes flicked down to my legs, then back up with a slow, knowing smile.

"Barely."

I glared, mortified beyond belief.

"Sit," Kael stepped past me into the room. "We'll order the car."

"I don't need it,"

"Well, you are getting it," Arlo said, already reaching for his phone.

I pressed my hands to my face, groaning quietly.

What the hell have I gotten myself into with these friends?

****

I slipped through the back gates of the Whitebrock estate without anyone stopping me.

My legs still felt like jelly, and every step reminded me of what Arlo and Kael had done to me. The ache between my thighs wasn't subtle. It throbbed with every movement, warm and humiliating and... God, so good.

But the moment I stepped into the hallway leading to my quarters, I heard his voice.

"Where are you coming from dressed like a slut?"

I stopped. My eyes closed for a beat.

Fuck.

Of course. Of course, he'd be right there, leaning against the wall like he owned the entire damn structure.

I turned to him slowly.

"It's none of your business," I said. "We're not married anymore. Whatever I do shouldn't matter to you."

"It does," he snapped. "Because you're still a Whitebrock wolf, even if an insignificant one,"

I flinched, but didn't let him see it.

"And my former wife. Everything you do reflects back on me. Good or bad."

"Well," I said with a shrug, "good thing I don't care."

His jaw clenched. I walked away from him before he could say another word.

The moment my door shut behind me, all the air left my lungs. I leaned against it, sliding down until I sat on the floor.

His words stung more than I let on.

Once upon a time, Zane had held me like I was precious. Once upon a time, he couldn't stand to see me hurt. Once upon a time, he'd looked at me like I hung the moon.

Then he switched. Just flipped into someone cruel and cold.

I closed my eyes and rubbed my face.

No. I wasn't going back there. Not mentally. Not emotionally.

Besides, I had other things to think about. Like Arlo's mouth between my thighs. Kael's dick in my mouth. The way I lost every bit of control I had was the second they touched me.

I have never clubbed before. Never had a one-night stand. Definitely never let two men at the same time.

I groaned softly, covering my face.

It can't happen again.

I told myself that as I headed to the bathroom, trying to walk normally even though there was still a sweet, throbbing ache between my legs.

I cleaned up, washed away their scent, their touch... at least physically.

When I stepped out, wrapped in a towel, toweling my hair, I paused at the sudden tap-tap on the window.

My brows furrowed.

"What-?"

A raven, an actual raven, was perched on the sill, glossy and pitch black. Ravens had been extinct for decades. All except...

No. That was a myth. Stories children whispered.

The immortal in the forest.

The monster who kept a single raven as his eyes.

That man didn't exist.

I shook my head quickly, telling myself I was mixing them up. This bird couldn't be a raven. It should be a random messenger bird.

Then the bird dropped a small box tied with a thin black ribbon on the sill, and I approached slowly and opened the lid.

A diamond chain. Simple. Delicate. Ridiculously expensive.

Arlo and Kael. It had to be them

I sighed, not pleased at all.

The gift felt possessive, like a silent claim on me.

"Great," I muttered. "Just what I need."

I shut the box, tossed it onto my bed, and tightened the towel around my body.

Whatever they thought this was, they were wrong.

It wasn't happening again.

Absolutely not.

Right?
