Chapter 6

"Damn it!" He cursed.

"I told you to keep an eye on her," Alaska looked furious.

"I don't know; she will..." Jeffrey was distressed.

"The ball is about to start; what do we do?" Jeffrey was so confused.

He knew that if Alaska didn't bring Ariel to the ball, the election boards would definitely suspect the marriage between him and Ariel.

"Find her!" Alaska yelled at him.

Alaska's men quickly got into the cars, dispatched to look for Ariel.

After Ariel escaped from the place and successfully got to the road without being caught, she instantly hailed a taxi to take her to the registry. She needed to know if her marriage with Jack was registered first before she knew what to do.

She believed that if Jack registered their marriage, that meant Alaska must have done something terrible to Jack and abduct her too.

As the taxi drives her to the registry, she could see Alaska's men's cars following her with speed.

"Faster!" She shouted to the taxi driver. Before Alaska's men could catch her, and Alaska probably killed her, she wanted to at least know what happened with her marriage with Jack.

The taxi driver sped up, but Alaska's men followed the taxi.

Luckily for her, the taxi was able to get her to the registry before he was stopped by Alaska's men; she instantly dashed out of the car without even paying and rushed into the registry barefooted.

Alaska's men rushed out of their cars too, but were stopped by Jeffrey because Alaska already warned them not to attract the public because of the election.

So, the men waited for Ariel outside the registry, settled the taxi driver, and asked him to leave instantly; he dared not disobey, knowing who they were.

Ariel quickly made an inquiry about her marriage registration. Her name was asked, and they helped her search.

"Yes, your marriage was registered," the lady said to her. Ariel looked relieved to hear that Jack had registered their marriage.

"With Mr. Alaska," the lady added.

It seemed some cold water was instantly poured on her the moment she heard that her marriage was registered with Alaska and not Jack. She looked totally confused now, washed, and disappointed.

"Is there a problem?" The lady asked her.

Ariel slowly shook her head, looking lifeless, and subconsciously walked out as if being remote-controlled.

The moment she stepped out, Jeffrey walked to her, but he could see how devastated she was, so he just took her to the car without questioning her.

Jeffrey immediately reported to Alaska about Ariel coming to the registry and looking devastated after.

"I will meet with you," Alaska replied and ended the call.

Alaska had been called from the ball several times because the ball had already started, but he could only ignore the calls.

Alaska quickly met with them on the way in full speed. They all stopped the cars meeting him on the way, and got down from the cars, including Ariel, who was still barefooted.

Alaska marched out of his car, his face already turned beet red with anger, his feet heavy with indignation, his fists clenched in anger. Ariel felt like entering into the ground, seeing Alaska's face blaze with fury towards her.

Alaska looked at her with his stone-cold face; Ariel felt her soul shrinking within her with his rage. She squeezed her palm hard, sweating and fidgeting inside. Her heart beating fast, she knew it was the end for her anyway.

But getting to her, Alaska sighed and tried to hold his anger; he turned to Jeffrey, who handed over Ariel's shoes which he had recover to him since she was still barefooted.

To Ariel's amazement, Alaska squatted down in front of her and put her shoes on for her. Ariel was not the only one who was amazed by this, but all Alaska's men.

"Don must really wanted this election thing to work out," one of them muttered.

He stood up, held Ariel's hands, and squeezed them tight; Ariel could feel the pain from his hold, but she knew she had to endure it. He dragged her into the car with force and slammed the car's door on her, het got inside the car beside her. Ariel dared not breathe; she ceases her breath like she was dead.

The car remained silent throughout the journey till they stopped at the front of the hall where the ball was to take place.

Ariel knew that she had already done the unthinkable, and the only way to save her head now was to make her union with Alaska convincing as much as possible since she already grasped the picture of what was going on.

Alaska deep his hand into the pocket of his suit and bring out a diamond ring, he takes Ariel's hand and slip it into her finger without looking at her face. He also slips the other pair into his finger.

Ariel tries to look at his face but it was clear, he was still angry, she knew she had to impress him.

"Let's go," Alaska's voice thundered with indignation.

"One second," Ariel managed to say.

Alaska wondered what she was up to now. He had tolerated her enough for one day and would not take her crap anymore. He turned to pull her out of the car, but he was surprised to see Ariel fixing up her makeup.

He closed his eyes and breathed out to calm himself. Ariel made sure she looked good, as her face already looked puffed up. She forced a smile and stepped out of the car majestically, which totally surprised Alaska.

He decided to walk into the hall, but Ariel pulled him back; he frowned, wondering why she did that.

"We have to go hand in hand to make it look more convincing," she whispered.

Alaska looked at her strangely; he had never had any relationship with females, so he didn't know at all. But since she said that it would be more convincing, he agreed.

Ariel put her hand in his arm, and they both walked into the ball elegantly.

Everyone was surprised at their stylish entry; they looked really like lovers. Ariel put on a smiling face, but as usual, Alaska had his cold face.

His mistress, Jaden, walked in and treated me like dirt. When I brought her drink, she slapped the tray, spilling scalding coffee all over my hand. The pain was white-hot. My skin blistered instantly, peeling away in angry red patches. I showed Connor the injury on a video call, expecting protection. Expecting him to be a man. My wife, Elena, walked into the Grand Boardroom and placed a possessive hand on her lover's chest. Julian, a low-level associate I’d only hired as a favor to her, sat in my chair with his muddy boots on the polished mahogany table. He blew smoke in my face and laughed. "You're just a figurehead now, Dante. The Syndicate belongs to Elena. And since I'm the one keeping her happy at night, it belongs to me too." Elena looked at me with cold eyes, delivering the ultimate betrayal without a shred of remorse. "I'm pregnant, Dante. It's Julian's. We need the Moretti name for the baby, so sign the transfer papers and leave." She believed the power of attorney documents I signed while delirious with fever had given her my empire. She thought the mercenaries standing behind her were loyal to her checkbook. She truly believed she could fire a Don like a mid-level manager caught stealing office supplies. But she didn't know that in our world, loyalty isn't bought with stolen money. And she certainly didn't know what was actually in the leather folder she was holding. I looked at the traitor and the rat, feeling a strange, lethal sense of calm. "You want to talk about papers?" I tossed the real file onto the table, watching their smiles falter. "You didn't sign a transfer of power, Elena. You signed a Renunciation of Protection." I signaled my Enforcers, and the room exploded into motion. "Now," I said, staring at Julian's terrified face. "Let's see how much the streets respect you without my name."
