My Husband Cheated Because I Was Blind — Until I Saw Everything

For three years, I played the perfect blind wife to Adrian, trusting him and my best friend Vanessa without question. A covert surgery gave me back my sight, and I walked in on their betrayal in our own bed. They mocked me, drained my accounts, and believed I saw nothing. So I kept up the charade, witnessing every cruel act while plotting. Now, with a dangerous billionaire's help, I'm taking back what's mine and destroying them both.

Chapter 2

The morning light filtered through the kitchen blinds, casting gentle shadows across the wooden table where I sat. The familiar creak of the hinges from yesterday still lingered in my memory, but today felt like a fresh start. I had gone to bed after the discovery, the cane propped beside me, my mind replaying every word and gesture from the night before. Now, as I rested my hand on the table, Vanessa was already there, her voice a light murmur about the coffee or some trivial detail. I listened, my blind cane leaning against the chair leg, while my senses sharpened on the sounds around me.

Adrian sat across from me, flipping through the newspaper with the same casual focus he had shown upstairs the night before. But then I heard it—the soft clink of metal against porcelain. The necklace. My mother's heirloom, the one that had disappeared three months ago, the pendant warm and familiar against skin. It dangled around Vanessa's neck, and Adrian sat right beside her, turning the pages without a single glance.

I kept my face neutral, the same composed mask I had worn downstairs. My fingers moved slowly across the table, extending toward the direction of Vanessa's voice. I wasn't reaching for the coffee; I was testing, deliberately guiding my hand in a slow arc until my fingertips brushed the edge of the tablecloth and came close to the spot where the necklace lay. I brushed the fabric just below her collar, the contact deliberate and unhurried.

She froze mid-sentence, her breath catching sharply. "Claire? What are you doing?" she asked, her voice light but edged with panic.

I continued my movement, my fingertips brushing the fabric just above her shoulder. "It's nothing," I said calmly, my tone innocent, but the cold smile already forming on my lips.

She stammered, her hand flying up to touch the necklace as if to confirm it was real. "I... Adrian gave it to me. It's just a gift. You know how he is, always thoughtful."

The words hung between us, thick and accusing. I let out a low, measured laugh, the kind that didn't reach my eyes. "He has good taste."

The air shifted. I could feel the tension radiating from both of them—the way Vanessa's shoulders tensed, her fingers twisting the clasp of the necklace as if she needed the reassurance of its weight. Adrian's newspaper rustled louder, his silence heavy and unbroken. Sweat prickled at the edges of my awareness, the kind that came from knowing they were rattled. I sipped my coffee, the bitter taste grounding me, while inside the old resolve from last night stirred stronger. They thought my blindness made me blind to everything, but I was learning to use every inch of it against them.

After breakfast, the clock ticked past nine, the sun climbing higher through the blinds. I excused myself to the bathroom, my cane tapping a steady path down the hallway. When I returned to the kitchen, Adrian was there, his briefcase open on the counter, a thick file in his hand. He looked up, his expression carefully neutral, the same neutral I had seen in the bedroom the night before.

"Claire, I have this for you," he said, holding out the document. "It's just a routine medical authorization. The doctor wants you to sign it for the next appointment. You know how it is with the paperwork."

I took the file, my fingers feeling the edges, the paper crisp under my touch. I sat back down, my cane beside me, and opened it. The words blurred into focus as I read—the permanent equity proxy agreement. Ownership of shares, rights transferred indefinitely. My eyes scanned the lines, the legal jargon, but I understood every word. This was more than medical paperwork. This was about control, about giving them access to something, perhaps to assets, to the house, to everything.

My heart tightened, but I kept my face calm. I picked up the pen from the table, the one Adrian had placed beside the coffee mug. But instead of signing, I reached for the coffee cup, the hot liquid sloshing as I deliberately tipped it over the file. The coffee spread across the paper, staining the pages, the agreement now a soaked mess.

"Oops. I didn't see it," I said, my voice light and apologetic, as if the spill was an accident of blindness.

I raised my face, looking straight at Adrian, my expression innocent, the kind of look a blind person might have when something happens unexpectedly. His face stiffened immediately, the muscles in his jaw tightening, his eyes narrowing in a way that didn't reach his voice. The soaked document lay between us, the silence stretching long and heavy, the balance of power shifting in ways neither of them had expected.

Adrian reached for the file too quickly, dragging it away from the spreading coffee. "Damn it, Claire." The irritation slipped out before his voice softened. "It's fine. I'll have another copy prepared."

"I'm sorry," I said, keeping my face turned toward him. "I thought I had the cup."

He started blotting the pages with a dish towel, but I had already read enough. Permanent proxy. Indefinite control of voting rights. My name waiting on the signature line. The coffee had stopped this copy, not the plan behind it. If Adrian brought me another one, I needed more than another accident to protect myself. I needed to know what else he had already put in motion.

Vanessa returned to the table with more towels and hovered beside him. Neither of them spoke for a moment. They didn't have to. Adrian's eyes flicked toward her, and she gave the smallest shake of her head. Then she reached for the ruined pages as if she had every right to touch them. I kept my hand on the coffee mug and let my expression stay empty. They still thought I was the only person at the table who couldn't see what was happening.
