"I hate you!" I sneered as I wiped a stubborn tear that slipped past my eyes. "I am glad we are on the same page" he smirked. I wanted him to feel pain. Chapter 6

Lisa's POV 3 months later, after I finally picked the pieces of my life back, I went back to work with dad. He made me the chief Finance Officer.Honestly working was hard. It was a herculean task but I was up for the challenge. Well, except for today. I sat in a fully air conditioned office but had beads of sweat running down my cheeks and no matter how many times I had swiped them away, there was more from where that came from. My phones and the land lines have been ringing non stop all morning. The company was on fire. Well Hypothetically. Over the weekend, a very damaging rumor arose like the stench from a refuse dump. It's been said that the Kay conglomerate was about to go bankrupt. I has had clients and customers breathing down my neck in the last 10 hrs. She had begged and cried and barked and screamed.None worked. I ran my hand over my wavy locks, making it more of a mess, than it was before. I searched through my bag and took out a pack of tissues. I had exhausted the one in the office. Just then the door to my office swung open. "Miss Lisa, the vice president, is on the other call," the secretary said. Her eyes were wide and she had some stress marks underneath her eyes.Ana has been working tirelessly for me for the past 3 months but since this month, the pressure was getting intense. This morning while in the shower, I thought of her handing over her resignation letter and I flinched. I can't have her leave now. "Thank you Ana" I gave her a small smile and she exited the office. I took a deep breath, pushed my hair to the side and grabbed the phone. "Good morning, your excellency" I kept my voice calm even though there was a volcano erupting inside of her. Oh God! "Miss Kay, please tell me they are all lying?" the vice president's voice boomed from the other end. I didn't respond immediately as it might give an impression that I had something to hide. "Yes your Excellency. That was just a rumor from one of our rivals, please don't let their words sway you too" I said standing to look through my window. A gigantic beautiful view of the city. I ended the call with more positive talks. "Pew that went well" I muttered when placing the phone down on my desk. I stared at the computer. The logo of the Kay Company was dancing all over the screen. I stared at Dad's message on my phone and slumped further into my chair. The Kay Company was the 3rd biggest company in the United States. We dealt in the shipping of everything you can think of. Everyone loved them because they were good and reliable. So when the vice president decided to become a shareholder in the company, my dad and I were ecstatic. That deal was like the tip of the iceberg to the other deals that came flooding in. It took only 5 months, and the Kay conglomerate went majorly global. We were as big as Maersk. So when the rumor that we were going bankrupt began, everyone went on a frenzy. So when you are a big person, your problems are nothing but big problems. For the past few months, what I didn't know was that Dad had been getting dozens of emails. These emails were from a person who he had borrowed some money from, to fund the business. Then there was news that the person had died. Dad saw that as an opportunity to flee but then life always had plans to bring him to his knees. The threats from the person got worse, when he informed Dad that the money was from a bank. Then the bank began to go after him. Last week, they had gotten hold of our goods that were about to be shipped to customers. Dad secretly paid through his nose to be free from that scandal. Now it was getting worse. They not only threatened his life, they threatened to report him to the police, and as you know, that will not be good for the business. He told me that he would meet an old friend for help. I hoped he did that fast because I was now running out of lies to tell. "Miss Lisa!!!" I spun around to find Ana burst through the door, like a broken dam. "They are about to have a shareholder's meeting!" "What!" I marched out of my office to the board room. I was shocked to my bones. It was true. "What is going on here?" I asked. "Lisa, kind of you to join us" Mr. Madrigal said. The sarcasm in his voice was so obvious, even to the deaf. "Hello Mr. Madrigal" I said quietly. "We have been trying to reach your father, where is he?" The two of them gave me a pointed stare. I opened my mouth but closed it.Just then my phone began to ring. I checked the screen. "Oh see it's my dad" I waved the phone in front of them smiling. "Please excuse me" then I walked away from them. "Dad!" I whispered harshly as I looked from side to side "Where are you? They are about to have a shareholder's meeting. I think they want reassurance" Within a minute the rest of the call was over but I got one statement clear. Stall them and come meet me. So I managed to make the shareholders keep the meeting waiting for the next 3 hours, with a little sweet talk. Immediately that was certain, I dashed out of the office to meet my father. I went to an auction event, as directed by my father. What the hell is he doing here? "I muttered as I went through the crowd to find him. "Lisa" I turned around and my dad grabbed my hands. "We sit here," he said. I had a big question mark on my head. What was dad doing here during such a crucial time? I opened her mouth to bombard him with questions, when I heard a voice. My eyes went wide as soon as I saw it was Mr. Fibonacci. He was the richest man in the country. "Lisa" my dad whispered. I turned. "Don't stare. My friend Charles is sitting over there" I followed his gaze. And then a thought began to brew in my head. I took out my phone and went for a quick G**** sounds. Obviously Mr.Fibonacci is way richer. If only I could get him to invest in the company, we will be big and pay back that money. "Excuse me dad" I stood up despite my dad's glares and walked up to where Mr. Fibonacci was sitting. "Excuse me sir, is this seat taken?" I gave him my charming smile. He smiled back at me and shook his head. The rest was history. After a few talks here and there, Mr. Fibonacci was now an investor in the Kay conglomerate. Due to how I solved that problem, dad was so happy. He called for a meeting to campaign for votes on making me the new CEO.

Take the money and get out of our lives," he sneered, looking at me with absolute disgust. I tore the check into pieces, but my nightmare was just beginning. To access my grandfather's trust fund, I had exactly seventy-two hours to get legally married, so I desperately proposed a one-year contract marriage to a poor insurance salesman I met in a dive bar. When Brad found out, he and his arrogant family cornered me at their estate. Brad mocked my new husband for being a penniless, money-grubbing parasite, while my former mother-in-law slapped me hard across the face, knocking me to the ground. Lying there in the dirt, I stared at the broken glass in absolute despair.
