Chapter 1

The ceremonial white gown flowed around my body like liquid moonlight as I stood in the grand hall of Silver Ridge Pack. My fingers trembled slightly as I smoothed the delicate fabric, my heart racing with anticipation. Today was supposed to be the pinnacle of my five years with Ryan—our mate ceremony would finally bind us completely.

"Are you ready, my Luna?" Elder Marian's weathered hands adjusted my silver circlet, her eyes crinkling with maternal pride.

I nodded, unable to find words through the lump of emotion in my throat. Inside me, my wolf Aria purred with contentment. *Finally, finally, we'll be truly his.*

The hall buzzed with activity as pack members arranged ceremonial candles around the sacred bonfire pit. Flower garlands perfumed the air, their scent mingling with the woodsmoke. My father, Alpha Richard Walsh, stood tall by the ceremonial altar, his powerful presence commanding respect even in this moment of celebration.

"Victoria." His voice softened as he approached. "You honor our pack today."

"Thank you, Father." I squeezed his hand, drawing strength from his steady presence.

The crowd parted as a slender figure approached, carrying a velvet cushion. Marina Torres—the rogue Ryan had commissioned to find the perfect moonstone for my ceremonial necklace. Her smile seemed strained, but I attributed it to the natural discomfort rogues felt in established pack territory.

"Luna Victoria," she said, bowing her head with appropriate deference. "May I show you the stone before the ceremony begins? Alpha Ryan wants to ensure it meets with your approval."

My heart warmed at Ryan's thoughtfulness. "Of course."

Marina gestured toward the ceremonial fire. "The light there will show its true brilliance."

I followed her, my ceremonial gown trailing behind me. The pack elders were gathering at the opposite end of the hall, their low murmurs creating a reverent atmosphere. Marina held up the cushion, and I leaned forward to examine the moonstone.

"It's beautiful," I breathed, reaching out to touch it.

The movement came so quickly I had no time to react. A flash of silver, a burning pain in my side. Marina's face transformed from respectful to triumphant as she drove the silver blade between my ribs.

"He was never meant to be yours," she hissed, twisting the blade.

The silver burned like liquid fire in my veins. I gasped, unable even to scream as the poisonous metal entered my bloodstream. My knees buckled, and I clutched at the wound, blood seeping between my fingers, staining the pristine white of my ceremonial gown with crimson roses.

"Help," I whispered, but the word barely escaped my lips.

Marina's scream cut through the hall. "She attacked me! The Luna tried to kill me!"

Confusion erupted. Through blurring vision, I saw Ryan burst through the doors, his powerful frame tense with rage. But instead of coming to me, he froze, his eyes fixed on Marina's performance.

"She went mad when I told her," Marina sobbed, clutching her stomach protectively. "When I told her about the pup... your pup..."

*No. Impossible.* My mind rejected her words even as Ryan's face transformed with fury. His wolf—the one who had purred love to my Aria for five years—roared with betrayal.

"Ryan," I gasped, reaching toward him. "She's lying..."

But the silver was working through me, weakening my voice to a thread. Ryan's eyes—those eyes that had looked at me with love just this morning—now burned with hatred so intense it stole what little breath I had left.

"Take her," he commanded his warriors, his Alpha tone vibrating with rage.

Rough hands seized me, dragging me from the hall as my father shouted in protest. The last thing I saw was Marina's triumphant smile as she leaned into Ryan's protective embrace.

The next moments blurred into nightmare. The cold bite of rope around my wrists. The hard wooden planks of Ryan's pack boat beneath my bleeding body. The roar of the engine as it started.

"Ryan, please," I begged as he tied the final knot, binding me to the back of the boat. "Listen to me..."

He wouldn't meet my eyes. "You betrayed me. After everything I gave you."

"I would never—"

The engine roared to life, drowning my words. As the boat lurched forward, dragging me into the churning Pacific waters, I realized with horror that the man I had loved for five years—the man I had helped rise from rogue to Alpha—was going to kill me.

The first wave crashed over my head, salt water burning the silver wound. I screamed, but only the ocean heard me as Ryan drove the boat faster, my body bouncing violently against the waves. The mate bond between us stretched, thin and agonizing, as the distance between our hearts grew with every moment of this torture.

My wolf Aria howled in anguish, not from the physical pain, but from the soul-deep betrayal of the one person we had trusted above all others.

Being Luna of the Silverfang Pack came with responsibilities I'd never imagined ten years ago when we'd arrived as young rogues. Now, I was responsible for managing the pack's resources while Cade—my mate, my Alpha—focused on what he called "more important matters." A harsh knock interrupted my concentration, though no one had bothered to actually wait for permission before entering. The door to my small office in the Pack House annex burst open with enough force to rattle the framed photo on my desk—me and Cade, taken shortly after we'd arrived here, both smiling with hope for our future. "Still hiding in your little cubbyhole, Luna?" Estella's voice dripped with false sweetness as she sauntered in, her designer heels clicking against the wooden floor. "I thought you might want to see this." She slammed a heavy folder onto my desk, sending papers scattering to the floor. I didn't bother to pick them up immediately, instead fixing my gaze on the woman standing before me. Estella was beautiful in that calculated way that made my skin crawl—perfect makeup, expensive clothes, and a smile that never reached her eyes. "What is it, Estella?" I kept my voice level, though my wolf stirred restlessly inside me. She flipped open the folder with manicured fingers and slid a document across the desk.

The water in the bucket was already gray, swirling with the grime of the dungeon floor. My knees ached against the cold, unforgiving stone, the damp chill seeping into my bones. I was the mate of the Alpha, yet here I was, scrubbing the cells like an Omega, while the real power in the pack wore heels and watched me with a smirk. "You missed a spot, Nellie," Jessica Stevens said, her voice dripping with false sweetness. She stood just outside the iron bars, looking pristine in a white dress that seemed out of place in the gloom of the underground prison. I dipped the brush back into the water, fighting the urge to tremble. "I'll get it, Jessica." "Good girl. Silas hates a dirty house, you know. We all just want him happy." She leaned against the lever that controlled the heavy iron door of the adjacent cell. I froze.
