Betrayed in Love Novel Cover

Betrayed in Love

On the first anniversary of my marriage to my CEO wife, she invited my older brother, Kylo Rice, over. It poured rain all day, and once again, she punished me by making me stand outside in it. But this time, it was worse—she insisted I watch as she and my brother flaunted their affection for each other. Afterwards, my brother, who despises me deeply, looked at me with a wild expression and said, "Do you hate me? What you're going through is nothing compared to what you and your mother did to me." Seeing my silence, he continued as if in a daze, "I must admit, Knox, your wife's allure is quite captivating." I endured it all without a word. The final blow came when my wife encouraged my brother to destroy my mother's keepsakes. I felt utterly disheartened. The purpose of this marriage had vanished, and it seemed I should vanish too. "Knox, your brother is so much more fun than you, you boring stiff," Selena said, satisfied, tracing circles on my chest. "But I have to say, I'm quite taken with your physique." The night's heavy rain had already washed away all of my dignity.

Chapter 5

The door flew open as an enraged woman stormed in, clutching a handful of blue pills and cursing vehemently. I backed away, feeling trapped by despair. Only at this moment did I truly grasp the depth of Kylo's resentment towards me.

Desperate to escape, I smashed a nearby vase, grabbing a shard to cut my wrist. Blood flowed out, and the naked woman, shocked, stumbled back in fear. My laughter was faint, echoing emptily in the room. Visions of my mother became vivid before my eyes, but my sight grew increasingly blurry.

"Mom, are you here to take me away?" I reached out towards her ghostly image, but a comforting presence pulled me back.

As my vision cleared for a moment, I found myself looking into the concerned, weathered eyes of Adelaide Palmer. Then everything faded away.

I battled with the chaos inside me, finding no release until a stabbing pain in my wrist led me to a brilliant light at the end of a tunnel. When I finally opened my eyes, I was met with the fierce glare of Selena.

She had one foot planted on my hospital bed, the pointed heel of her shoe pressing harshly into my wound.

"Knox Rice, who gave you the audacity to defy me? You think you can ignore my commands now?"

Cold sweat covered my forehead, but the physical pain was nothing compared to the harsh reality of her words. Despite the distance between us, I had never truly believed she sought to ruin me. I blamed everything on Kylo’s schemes. Yet today, her words demolished my last illusions.

For the first time, I was overwhelmed by an urgent need to escape this place, to flee from her presence.

"Look at you, just staring! Even your mother's belongings couldn't survive because of that face!"

Selena wasn't satisfied yet. She pressed her heel even harder into my wound. Blood seeped through the gaps in the bandages, and I lay there, staring at her with vacant eyes.

Selena threw her head back, laughing with a chilling madness.

"I was the one who ordered your mom's cherished trinkets destroyed. What are you going to do about it?

“Everything you eat, wear, and possess comes from me. You despise me, but can you really leave?

"Knox Rice, if I want you to suffer, you’d better brace yourself!"

Architecture had always been my passion, but I'd set it aside when Mark needed me to help with his business. Tomorrow marked not just our wedding, but the beginning of my return to that dream.

I arrived at the Palo Alto headquarters before the sun had fully risen, my heels clicking against the polished marble floor of the empty lobby. Today was everything we'd worked for: the Series B funding pitch that would either launch us into tech stardom or leave us struggling for another year. My fingers trembled slightly as I arranged the presentation packets for the fifth time, aligning their edges with mathematical precision. Each folder contained months of my work—financial projections, market analyses, growth strategies—all meticulously prepared for the venture capitalists who held our future in their hands. "You're here early," Madison's syrupy voice cut through the silence, startling me. She stood in the doorway of the conference room, a vision in pale pink, her blonde hair falling in perfect waves around her shoulders. "Let me help you with those." "I've got it," I said, perhaps too quickly. Something in her eager smile made my stomach tighten. "But thank you." She tilted her head, eyes widening with practiced innocence.
