Betrayed By The Queen: A Don's Revenge Novel Cover

Betrayed By The Queen: A Don's Revenge

I surrendered my underworld throne and washed the blood from my hands to build my wife Lucia a legitimate corporate empire. Then I caught her secretary breaking into my encrypted mafia files—and instead of honoring Omertà, she shielded him, calling my heritage toxic paranoia and threatening to freeze the accounts I created. When he shattered my late mother's emerald heirloom, she told me to stop acting like a savage. She stood silent while he mocked the torture I once endured in a cartel basement to win her freedom. Five years as the quiet, devoted husband—taking bullets, laundering funds, giving her a crown. Now she hands our empire to a parasite. I looked at the woman I swore an eternal blood oath to protect and felt nothing but cold clarity. "Our blood oath is dead, Lucia."

Chapter 2

Vincenzo POV

The silence that stretched between the brick-fronts felt heavy enough to crush bone.

Lucia slowly lowered her trembling hand from her stinging cheek, her eyes wide with a mixture of panic and disbelief.

"You hit me."

Her voice trembled, but shock quickly twisted into defensive rage.

"You are losing your mind, Vincenzo. My dealings with Julian are strictly for the legitimate facades of this family."

She jabbed a manicured finger at my chest.

"You are letting your mafia paranoia destroy everything we built."

I looked down at her finger, where the diamond of her wedding band caught the faint streetlight.

My pride as a Salvatore-the inherited cruelty of a bloodline of ruthless Dons-burned like battery acid in my veins.

"We built nothing, Lucia."

I kept my voice completely devoid of emotion, a dead, flat calm.

"I built your empire with my mother's blood money, and you handed the keys to a parasite."

Julian, misjudging the stillness between us, took a step forward, reaching out to grab my forearm.

"Vincenzo, please, let us just talk about this inside."

The moment his foolish, civilian fingers brushed my coat, years of trained violence took over.

I grabbed him by the lapels of his suit, twisting the expensive fabric into my fists.

I spun him around and threw him onto the pavement.

Julian hit the concrete with a sickening thud, crying out as his elbows scraped raw against the asphalt.

Lucia shrieked, the sound grating against the night, and dropped to her knees beside him.

She hovered over his whimpering form like a shield.

"Apologize to him right now."

She looked up at me, so deep in her delusion she was actually demanding submission.

"You are acting like a street thug, not a husband."

I looked at the woman I had taken bullets for, and felt not a shred of the old devotion, only a profound and cold clarity.

"This is my final command as the Don of this family."

I spoke slowly, making sure every syllable pierced the cold air.

"Either you sign the annulment papers tomorrow morning, or I will take this to the Commission and strip you of every dime, every property, and every breath of power you possess."

I did not wait for her response.

I turned my back on them, leaving the ruin of my marriage on the sidewalk, and walked to the corner of the street.

I went directly to the lead black SUV of my security detail. I opened the driver's side door, took the soldier by his collar, and pulled him out onto the pavement. "The keys," I said, my voice leaving no room for argument. I slid into the driver's seat and slammed the door shut against the chill.

The SUV sped away, leaving the life I had built for her shrinking in the rearview mirror.

An hour later, the heavy iron gates of my Caporegime's compound swung open, the screech of metal a welcome sound.

Rocco was waiting on the porch, a lit cigar clamped between his teeth, surrounded by heavily armed guards who stood at rigid attention.

He took one look at my face and knew. No questions were asked.

We walked in grim silence down to his underground bunker.

The room smelled of gun oil, imported whiskey, and old leather-the scent of mobilization.

Crates of illegal firearms were stacked high against the damp concrete walls.

Rocco poured two glasses of neat bourbon and slid one across the heavy oak table.

I picked up the glass, my hand trembling slightly as the shock finally found purchase in my nerves.

The adrenaline was fading, leaving behind a hollow, rotting pain in my chest.

I hurled the glass against the wall.

The crystal shattered, the amber liquid staining the concrete like a fresh wound.

I gripped the edge of the table, bowing my head as the reality of my dead marriage crushed the air out of my lungs.

"She chose the rat, Rocco."

My voice cracked, the broken sound foreign to my own ears.

Rocco placed a heavy hand on my shoulder, his grip tight and loyal.

"Give the word, Boss."

I lifted my head, wiping the moisture from my eyes.

The grief was gone, replaced by a dark, consuming need for destruction.

"Assemble the men. I want every casino she owns to close, every credit line severed. I will not stop until she lacks the fare for a taxi out of Brooklyn."
