Betrayed By The Mate The Moon Goddess Chose Novel Cover

Betrayed By The Mate The Moon Goddess Chose

After the Murray Pack was disbanded, Kairi Murray’s position as Michael’s destined Luna fell to me. The Lycan Prince couldn’t bear to see his childhood friend, Kairi, reduced to the status of a rogue, so he pulled some strings and brought her into the Garcia Pack as an Omega. As the rightful Luna, I had no intention of making things difficult for her. But on our mating night, just as Michael was about to mark me, a mournful howl echoed through the halls. It was Kairi, her voice trembling with heartache as she let out a sorrowful cry, a lament of unrequited love. It was supposed to be a joyous occasion, but the sorrowful sound made it feel more like a funeral. It was a low blow, even for someone who had fallen from grace. Michael’s hands, which had been warm and eager on my waist, froze. The desire in his eyes faded, replaced by a flicker of guilt. Everyone in the pack knew he had saved Kairi from a life as a rogue and brought her into the pack.

Chapter 3

On the fifteenth of the month, it was customary to pay respects to the Lycan Queen. As I approached the grand entrance of the palace, I spotted Gamma Rylee waiting at the door.

"Her Majesty has been expecting you and the Prince since early this morning. Please follow me," she said, her tone respectful but formal.

Before we even reached the main hall, I could hear a lively, chirping voice echoing through the corridors. Judging by the timing, it had to be Alina Stone.

"Auntie, when is Michael coming?" Her voice was playful, almost teasing.

"You little rascal," the Lycan Queen replied with a chuckle. "Just moments ago, you said you missed me the most, and now you’re already asking for someone else."

"Well, Michael isn’t just ‘someone.’ He’s your dearest son, isn’t he?"

I entered the hall just as the Queen tapped Alina’s forehead affectionately, calling her a "little troublemaker."

"Ah, this must be Alina. What a lovely young lady," I said, stepping forward with a warm smile after completing the formal greetings.

"Miss Alina, I hope your journey here wasn’t too tiring. Are you settling in well?" I asked, taking her hand in mine.

Alina glanced at me subtly, her eyes scanning me quickly before she laughed brightly. "You must be Luna Holly! I’ve heard so much about you—how you’re one of the most elegant women in the pack. Meeting you today, I can see why everyone admires you."

She looped her arm through mine, addressing me as "Sister Holly" with a familiarity that felt both genuine and calculated.

"Sister Holly, what’s fun to do around here? The palace is grand, but everyone seems so serious. It’s a bit stifling, don’t you think?"

Her boldness didn’t faze the Queen. If anything, it seemed to amuse her. "If you’re feeling bored, why not have Michael and Holly take you around? It’ll be a good way to relax."

I kept my expression calm, but inside, I seethed. To the Queen, Michael was still her precious son, while I was merely "Holly," the Luna. She didn’t even bother to use my title in front of Alina, as if subtly reminding everyone of her disapproval of me.

Oh, I wasn’t naive. In the Queen’s eyes, *I* was the outsider, the one who had taken what she believed should have been Alina’s place.

And now, she wanted Michael, the future Lycan King, to accompany Alina around the city? As if I were some minor inconvenience to be brushed aside. The Queen’s arrogance was staggering, her disdain for me thinly veiled.

Alina, as if suddenly noticing Michael, turned to him with a theatrical gasp. "Oh, Prince Michael! It’s been so long. Sister Holly and I were so caught up in chatting, I almost forgot you were here!"

Michael, ever the picture of composure, smiled warmly. "It’s good to see you again, Alina. I trust you’ve been well?"

Alina practically bounced over to him, her admiration for him written all over her face. "Prince Michael, are you busy today? Could you take me out to explore? Please?"

Michael’s smile softened. "I happen to have some free time today. Where would you like to go?"

"Main Street is always so lively! I’ve been craving the burgers from Wolf’s Bite, and I’d love to pick up some jewelry from Moonstone Boutique."

With Michael’s approval, Alina grabbed his sleeve, tugging him toward the door. Then, as if just remembering I was still there, she turned back to me with an exaggerated expression of guilt.

"Oh, Sister Holly, I’m so sorry! I completely forgot you were here," she said, bouncing back to link her arm with mine again. "Please don’t be upset. It’s just that Michael and I used to do this all the time before you came along. It’s still a bit strange to have someone else join us."

She pouted slightly, sticking out her tongue as if it were all just a harmless oversight.

"Of course, Miss Alina. You’ve been away from the city for so long. It’s only natural you’d want to explore," I replied, my tone smooth and polite.

You’re mocking me for taking your place, I thought. And I’m subtly reminding you of your provincial roots.

I came from the Garcia Pack, a lineage of power and prestige. The Queen might hold sway here, but I wouldn’t let some upstart Beta like Alina Stone step all over me. Did she really think I, Holly Garcia, was someone she could trample on so easily?

The mirror reflected a stranger—my eyes too bright, my smile too fragile. I smoothed down the silver silk dress that hugged my curves, a gift from Father for my eighteenth birthday. Today was the day I'd finally be claimed as Colton's Luna, his mate, his equal. "You look just like her," Father said from the doorway of my bedroom. I turned to see Alpha Thomas Ferguson leaning against the frame, his eyes misty with memories. My father, the powerful Alpha of the Silver Moon Pack, looked smaller somehow today. "Like Mother?" I asked, touching the dress. "Yes." He crossed the room and took something from his pocket. "Which is why I want you to have this." He placed a silver locket in my palm. It was intricately crafted with our pack symbol etched on the front.

My hands trembled as I stood at the edge of the ceremonial circle, watching the other seniors of our pack take their turns. The Coming of Age Ceremony was everything in werewolf society—the moment when our abilities would be fully tested, our ranks determined, our futures set. The scent of pine needles and burning sage filled the night air, and the full moon hung heavy above us, its silver light bathing the clearing in an ethereal glow. Ryan stood across the circle, his dark hair gleaming under the moonlight, those green eyes finding mine with the same reassurance they'd offered since we were pups. My heart fluttered as it always did when he looked at me. We'd been raised with the understanding that we were destined mates—our families had planned it, the pack expected it, and I had built my entire future around it. "Sophia Williams," Elder Marcus called, his Alpha voice resonating through the clearing. I stepped forward, my white ceremonial dress billowing around my ankles. Inside me, my wolf—Sarah—stirred anxiously. *We should show our full strength*, she whispered in my mind.

Pain seared through my body like liquid fire, burning away the fog that had clouded my mind for years. My eyelids fluttered as consciousness returned in waves, each one more painful than the last. The sterile scent of antiseptic filled my nostrils, mixed with something else—something wrong. "Her vitals are stabilizing," a voice murmured nearby. Dr. Thorne's familiar tone, clinical and detached as always. "The dosage was off today. Too low." I kept my eyes closed, instinct warning me to stay still. Something was different. The usual haze that blanketed my thoughts had lifted, replaced by a sharp clarity that both terrified and exhilarated me.

I spent three years trying to be the perfect Crown Princess, enduring my husband Bradley's coldness while pouring my family's fortune into his royal projects. I truly believed our marriage was built on duty and that our adopted son, Jimmie, was the bond that held us together. Everything changed on a stormy night when I caught Bradley in his study, calmly watching my family's trust fund documents-the entire Orozco legacy-burn to ash in the fireplace. He didn't even look guilty as he explained that I was never his partner, only a convenient bank account for the Crown. When I lunged to save the papers, Bradley shoved me to the floor with bored indifference. Then, the ultimate betrayal walked through the door: Jimmie. My son didn't run to comfort me; he took Bradley's hand and looked at me with pure venom. Bradley sneered, revealing that Jimmie wasn't adopted at all-he was his biological son with my best friend, Icy. "We just needed you to fund his future," Bradley said. I was dragged out by guards and thrown into a sedan speeding toward the cliffs. At Dead Man's Curve, the driver jumped out of the moving car, leaving me to plummet into the freezing ocean. As the water filled my lungs and my life faded, I didn't feel fear. I felt a distilled, murderous hate. I woke up gasping for air in my old bedroom, three years before the crash. It was the day of my fake infertility diagnosis, the beginning of their plan to break me. "The Fiona who listened to you is dead," I whispered, looking at my reflection. I didn't cry this time. Instead, I dressed in black and headed into the night to find the only man Bradley feared-the lethal, "boiling-blooded" Regent, Demian Ballard. I was going to save his life, and in return, he was going to help me burn the palace down.

The northern border erupted in chaos as Moon Shadow rogues poured through the treeline like a black tide. My wolf's instincts kicked in immediately, tracking their scent patterns as they scattered across our territory in coordinated waves. "Three coming from the east ridge!" These weren't random attacks—they knew our patrol routes. I pressed my back against the rough bark, listening to paws thundering past my position. My tracking abilities painted a clear picture: six rogues had split into pairs, trying to flank our main defensive line. If they succeeded, they'd reach the pack house within minutes. My muscles coiled as I prepared to intercept the eastern group. Three against one weren't ideal odds, but I'd faced worse during my early tracking days.
