Chapter 1

My husband has a PhD in medicine. He's fair, just, and kind… until the day his true love kills someone in an accident.

He uses all the medical knowledge he has to help her get off scot-free. He turns the corpse into preserved specimens and displays them in his lab.

When he's dealing with the corpse, he sees that there's an embryo in the womb. He's always been calm and composed, but he can't stop his heart from racing at the sight.

What he doesn't know is that the corpse is mine, and the embryo is his child…

Hovering up above in the laboratory as a ghostly specter, I watched as my corpse lay naked in front of Nathan Lowe. My face was disfigured beyond recognition, and both my arms were crushed to a pulp.

Nathan heaved a sigh before looking over at Gina Mason, who stood beside him with an innocent expression.

"Why did you go so far?"

Hearing that, Gina exhaled in relief. She deduced that Nathan hadn't recognized the body to be mine.

"You'll help me, right, Nate?" Gina asked, her voice inspiring pity and compassion in all who heard her.

Nathan's gaze steeled. He inhaled deeply, looking like he'd made a tough decision, before replying, "I'll protect you, Gina. I always will!"

As soon as he finished speaking, he put on a pair of gloves and cleaned up the wounds on my body. Then, he stripped my hair and skin off. Finally, he took a scalpel and sliced my abdomen open to start taking out my organs.

However, immediately after Nathan made the incision, his hand trembled. He gulped nervously before wiping the sweat off his brow with a fearful expression. His voice was laced with disbelief as he exclaimed, "S-She was pregnant?"

Gina's eyes widened. She stared at me in alarm before stammering, "W-Was she?"

She spoke loudly to hide how panicked she was.

After cutting open my womb, he saw a still-developing embryo inside. Instantly, an overwhelming sense of guilt washed over him. He felt suffocated—as if someone were clutching him by the neck.

Noticing that Nathan had stopped what he was doing, Gina quickly lied to him. "I didn't know she was pregnant. I really don't know what happened, Nate. I was just driving along the road when she ran out like a madwoman."

She grabbed Nathan's arm and begged, "You have to help me, Nate. I don't want to go to jail. I don't want to die!"

As Nathan looked into Gina's pleading eyes, his heart softened. Steeling himself, he cut out the embryo and tossed it into a concentrated sulfuric acid solution.

"No! My baby!"

I watched as Nathan made the vicious decision to destroy my baby. I lunged at him right away, but my spirit passed through him. All I could do was watch as my baby's body started bubbling and liquefying gruesomely in that vat of acid.

I screamed my heart out, my face contorting. But soon, an inexplicable sense of malicious joy filled me.

Nathan, would you crumble to pieces if you found out that the embryo you destroyed was your child, one that you'd been longing for?

Today is October 14th, my birthday. I returned to New York after months away, dragging my suitcase through the biting wind, but the VIP pickup zone where my husband's Maybach usually idled was empty. When I finally let myself into our Upper East Side penthouse, I didn't find a cake or a "welcome home" banner. Instead, I found my husband, Caden, kneeling on the floor, helping our five-year-old daughter wrap a massive gift for my half-sister, Adalynn. Caden didn't even look up when I walked in; he was too busy laughing with the girl who had already stolen my father's legacy and was now moving in on my family. "Auntie Addie is a million times better than Mommy," my daughter Elara chirped, clutching a plush toy Caden had once forbidden me from buying for her. "Mommy is mean," she whispered loudly, while Caden just smirked, calling me a "drill sergeant" before whisking her off to Adalynn's party without a second glance. Later that night, I saw a video Adalynn posted online where my husband and child laughed while mocking my "sensitive" nature, treating me like an inconvenient ghost in my own home. I had spent five years researching nutrition for Elara's health and managing every detail of Caden's empire, only to be discarded the moment I wasn't in the room. How could the man who set his safe combination to my birthday completely forget I even existed? The realization didn't break me; it turned me into ice. I didn't scream or beg for an explanation. I simply walked into the study, pulled out the divorce papers I'd drafted months ago, and took a black marker to the terms. I crossed out the alimony, the mansion, and even the custody clause-if they wanted a life without me, I would give them exactly what they asked for. I left my four-carat diamond ring on the console table and walked out into the rain with nothing but a heavily encrypted hard drive. The submissive Mrs. Holloway was gone, and "Ghost," the most lethal architect in the tech world, was finally back online to take back everything they thought I'd forgotten.
