Chapter 6

I feel his hardness press against my stomach through our clothes and I moan again. The door flings open, and we jump apart expecting it to be my mom or stepdad. It’s not. Instead, it is Ryder. Great. He already thinks I am whoring around with the guys. What will he think now?

“Dinner is ready and your mom sent me out on a search mission for you.” Ryder says as he gives Logan a death glare.

I cross my arms over my chest. “I’ll be in, in a minute.” Ryder stands there glaring at Logan. “You can go now.” Ryder glances at me before returning his glare to Logan and finally shutting the door.

“I guess I have to go.” I say to Logan with a pout.

Logan smiles at me as he tucks a strand of my hair behind my ear. “Yeah, I better get going too. I will see you in the morning. You can text me after dinner.”

“Okay. I will text you.” I say and I lean up on my toes to kiss him one more time before going inside.

As I shut the door and turn around I almost scream. “Why are you standing there like some kind of stalker?” I ask Ryder who is standing behind the door like a freaking creep.

“You and Logan a thing now?” Ryder asks ignoring my question.

Why does everyone keep asking me that? Sure, we kissed, but that doesn’t mean we are together now. “That’s none of your damn business.”

Ryder glares at me and I ignore him, walking past him to go to the dining room. “Hey mom. Hey Curtis.”

“Hey baby, how was your day?” My mom asks in her overly chipper voice.

I smile at her. “It was honestly great.”

Mom nods her head in an overly excited way. “Good baby. I am so glad to hear it.”

“She got herself a couple of boyfriends.” Ryder says as he comes into the dining room.

“Shut the fuck up.” I snap at him.

Mom gasps. “Watch your language young lady and what does he mean you have a couple of boyfriends?”

“Nothing. I made a couple of friends.” I say to mom as I glare at

Ryder.

Ryder smirks. “You make out with all of your friends?”

Mom looks at me in disbelief. “Today was your first day and you were making out with someone already?”

“No!” I yell.

Ryder fake coughs “Liar.”

I swear to God I am about to punch him in the face. Lucky for him his dad stepped in. “That’s enough you two. Lilly, I think it’s great you made some new friends already and Ryder leave your new sister alone.”

“Curtis is right. That’s enough let’s sit down to eat.” Mom chimes in.

Curtis and mom sit on one side of the table; me and Ryder sit on the other side. Halfway through dinner mom and Curtis get lost in their own conversation and Ryder takes the opportunity to scoot his chair closer to me. “So, sis did you enjoy having Logan’s tongue down your throat?”

“Screw you.”

“I can make that happen if you’d like.” Ryder whispers way to close to my ear.

I look at him in disbelief. “You are disgusting.”

Ryder laughs. “I thought you would enjoy it, you know since you’ve been hopping from guy to guy all day.” I feel Ryder’s hand slide up my thigh and I tense up.

“Get your hand off of me.” I say through gritted teeth.

Ryder’s hand slides even higher and an involuntary shiver runs through me. I hate the fact that my body is reacting to him. His hand moves even higher and I feel my panties get wet. “I I’m done, thank you for dinner mom.” I say as I stand up quickly making my chair squeak.

Ryder laughs and mom looks from me to Ryder. “Okay baby. Get some rest.”

“Goodnight mom, goodnight Curtis.” I say as I rush out of the room.

“Goodnight sis.” Ryder yells as I practically run out of the room.

Great, I love my new school and hate my new house or should I say my new house mate. I stomp my way up the stairs to my new room.

My room that is still filled with boxes. Boxes full of crap that I really

don’t feel like unpacking. I do need to find some pajamas. Wearing the same pair of shorts and the t-shirt I have been wearing to sleep in since we moved in seems kind of sad.

My phone dings and I feel a rush of excitement. Flopping down on my bed I grab my phone and open my messages. One new message from Logan.

Logan: Hey beautiful! Just wanted to say I really enjoyed our kiss. I can’t wait to do it again.

I can’t help but squeal with happiness.

Me: I enjoyed it too. I can’t wait to do it again either.

This is going to be a great year. I love my new school, love my new friends, and for once I am excited to go to school every day. I am even kind of excited to go to my first football and basketball game.

Logan: Goodnight beautiful. I will see you in the morning.

I smile to myself.

Me: Goodnight! (kissy face)

Logan: (kissy face)

I throw my phone on the bed and start unpacking boxes. I probably should have listened to mom when she told me to label my boxes with something over than Lilly’s Stuff. Three boxes in, I finally find what I’m looking for. My sleep shorts and tank tops. I pull out a pair of short pink fuzzy shorts and a black tank top and make my way into the bathroom.

Stripping down I turn the hot water on and let the steam surround me. That’s what I need a long hot shower. After showering until the water turned cold I took my time getting dressed and made my way back to my room.

“Damn that was a long shower.” Ryder says as I walk in my room making me jump.

“Why the hell are you in my room?”

“Reading your messages. That must have been some kiss if he felt the need to text you about it.” Ryder says with a smirk, scrolling through my phone.

I take a deep breath. “Give me my phone back.”

Ryder laughs. “Why? Oh and umm Aaron and Harrison messaged you

too. So which one is your boyfriend?”

“Give me my fucking phone!” I snap, stomping across the room to my bed.

“You are cute when you’re mad.”

“Ryder I am not kidding, give me my phone now!” I yell at him.

Ryder smirks at me as he looks my body up and down. “Come and get it.”

I roll my eyes and try to snatch my phone from him. “You are going to have to try harder than that.” Ryder says as he leans back on my bed keeping my phone just out of reach.

“Ugggghhh. Just give me my phone.” I say leaning forward to try and take my phone from him.

Ryder wraps his arm around my waist and pulls me down on top of him. My face hits his chest, and I have to straddle him to keep from sliding down his body onto the floor. “Damn it Ryder. Give me my phone.”

“I think I like this too much. I’m going to keep your phone.” He says as he thrusts his hips up into my private area. “I’ve got a really nice view.” He says looking down my shirt.

Then I saw his Maybach shaking in the cemetery parking lot. Through a crack in the window, I heard the man I loved whispering to my stepsister, Tiffany. "Don't worry about the broke princess. Once I secure her voting proxy for the trust, I'm dumping her." Tiffany laughed, clutching the scarlet coat she'd charged to my own maxed-out credit card. "She's so pathetic, Julian. She actually thinks you love her." I didn't scream; I recorded them. But when I tried to use that leverage, my family turned into vipers. I jolted awake to the sound of Leo's ragged coughing. The digital clock on my nightstand glowed 2:17 AM, casting an eerie blue light across our sparse bedroom. Michael's side of the bed was empty—again. Probably at Amanda's, I thought bitterly, but I pushed the familiar ache aside as another harsh cough echoed from Leo's room. Throwing back the covers, I rushed down the hallway of our modest Fort Lewis housing unit. The worn carpet was rough against my bare feet, a constant reminder of how little Michael invested in our actual home. "Leo, baby?" I whispered, pushing open his door. My five-year-old son sat upright in bed, his small chest heaving with each labored breath. When he turned to me, his flushed face glistened with sweat in the glow of his dinosaur night light. "Mommy," he wheezed, "my chest hurts." I pressed my palm to his forehead and pulled back instantly.

I sat in front of the vanity mirror in the bridal suite of the Hargrove Hotel and looked at the woman wearing it. Hair pinned. Makeup done. Hands folded in her lap like she was waiting for a meeting to begin. My phone buzzed on the vanity. I picked it up.
