Banished While Carrying His Heir

After my sister-in-law Amelie’s miscarriage, the entire Dunn pack revolved around her. Even my mate, Marcellus, was no exception. Chapter 1

After my sister-in-law Amelie’s miscarriage, the entire Dunn pack revolved around her.

Even my mate, Marcellus, was no exception.

At the dinner table, I couldn’t hold back a wave of nausea, and the room fell into an uneasy silence.

Marcellus pulled me aside, his tone hesitant.

“Lilah, you’re not… pregnant at a time like this, are you?”

His mother, Maryam, followed us out, her voice soft but firm as she took my hand.

“If you are, we’ll arrange for you to stay at the estate on the outskirts. It’s best to keep you away from Amelie while she’s fragile.”

I didn’t argue, smiling instead. “Of course. I’ll leave tomorrow.”

I had already bought land and a house in Yanzhou.

This mate and his pack were no longer what I wanted.

Marcellus seemed taken aback by how quickly I agreed.

“You’re usually so clingy,” he muttered, his voice tinged with irritation. “Fine, I’ll visit when I can. But don’t make this about yourself. Amelie needs our support right now.”

I looked down, my fingers tracing the rough silver bracelet on my wrist.

I had no pack to back me, no one to protest when they sent a pregnant she-wolf away to the outskirts.

Maryam patted my shoulder, her smile warm but distant.

“You understand, don’t you, dear? Amelie was raised delicately, her constitution is weak. You’re… different.”

“Farmers’ wives work the fields even while pregnant. Staying at the estate might even do you good. The fresh air, the simplicity—it’ll be better for the pup.”

Marcellus frowned.

“Enough, Mother,” he said curtly.

He wrapped an arm around me, pulling me close.

“Come on, I’ll take you to our room.”

Once inside, I told Remi to start packing.

Marcellus watched us move about, his expression growing puzzled.

“Why does it seem like you can’t wait to leave?”

I paused, then walked to the desk and picked up a blank sheet of paper.

“Write your name here,” I said softly, holding it out to him. “That way, when I miss you, I can look at it and feel closer to you.”

He chuckled, pulling me onto his lap.

Without suspicion, he scrawled his name in the corner.

“If you miss me, write to me. I’ll visit when I can. Once the pup is born and Amelie’s feeling better, I’ll bring you back.”

Even though my heart had long grown cold, my smile faltered for a moment.

“You’re sending me to the outskirts to give birth? Aren’t you worried something might happen to me there?”

Marcellus laughed.

“You’re strong, Lilah. What could possibly happen? You’re not like Amelie.”

I nodded, the truth settling heavily in my chest.

Of course.

I had been abandoned in the woods as a child, found by a rogue who raised me.

I had endured countless hardships, worked harder than anyone in this pack. A birth? That was nothing to me.

Marcellus’s fingers brushed my cheek, his touch light but cold.

“If it weren’t for your scent—so much like Amelie’s—your pack would’ve never found you. You could’ve been mated off to some rogue, living a simple life. Isn’t this better? Staying at the estate, living comfortably?”

He smirked, as if he loved me for my scent alone, and leaned in to kiss me.

I didn’t react, just carefully folded the paper and tucked it into my pocket.

The scent of blood hit me before I heard the howls. I jerked awake in our bed, my heart hammering against my ribs as the pack mind-link erupted with panicked voices. Alexander's side of the bed was empty and cold—he'd left for border patrol hours ago with James and a small team of warriors. Something was terribly wrong. *Luna! Luna Charlotte!* The frantic voice of Delta Micah pierced through the chaos in the mind-link. *Rogues attacked at the Colorado border! The laughter and chatter of pack game night filled the Crescent Ridge Pack House as I walked in hand-in-hand with Ryan. His fingers were loosely intertwined with mine, a casual touch that should have felt reassuring but instead felt hollow. Two years ago, that same touch would have sent electricity racing up my arm. Now, it was just skin against skin. "Ready for some fun, babe?" Ryan's voice carried that slight edge it often had lately—like he was already bored with whatever response I might give. I forced a smile. "Of course." Inside my head, Lyra, my silver wolf, paced restlessly. *Something feels off tonight,* she whispered. *It's just game night,* I assured her, though the knot in my stomach suggested otherwise. Alpha Marcus Thorne stood at the center of the main hall, his commanding presence drawing everyone's attention.

Just hours after I endured a grueling labor to give Kaelen, my fated mate and the Alpha, two beautiful twins, he walked into the infirmary. Instead of holding our newborns, his Alpha aura pinned me to the bed as he coldly announced, "I reject you as my mate." He claimed I reeked of another Alpha. His sister Vanessa threw a stack of photos at my face, showing me at a cafe with a broad-shouldered man. Before I could even explain, Kaelen forced a pen into my trembling hand while I was still bleeding, making me sign away my parental rights. His mother then snatched my newborn son Liam from the crib. "Take the girl and get out of my territory," Kaelen commanded, leaving me in the freezing room with my severed mate-bond and my crying daughter. I didn't understand how our sacred bond could be shattered by a single fake photo, or how my fated mate could be so blind and ruthless as to rip my baby from my arms. Five years later, his precious heir is dying, and Kaelen desperately needs an alliance and a bone marrow donor. But when he finally sees me at a high-society gala, he doesn't find a broken, exiled Omega. He finds me standing beside that very same "lover"—Dominic, the Alpha of the Silverwood Pack, my older brother. And this time, I am the one holding the blade.

I stare at my reflection in the full-length mirror, and the girl looking back at me is a stranger. The white gown they've given me is simple—too simple for a Luna Ceremony, really. My heart pounded against my ribs as I rushed through the sliding doors of the Moonveil Pack's medical center, my precious Lucas burning with fever in my arms. His small body felt too hot against my chest, his usually bright amber eyes—so like his father's—now glazed and half-closed. "It's okay, baby," I whispered, pressing my lips against his forehead. "Mama's got you." The medical center buzzed with unusual activity. I'd forgotten about the inter-pack medical conference today, with healers and medical staff from neighboring territories gathered to share knowledge. Under normal circumstances, I would have attended as the Lycan Queen, but Lucas's sudden fever had pushed all royal duties from my mind. "My Queen," the receptionist stood immediately, concern etched across her face. "Prince Lucas—" "His fever spiked twenty minutes ago," I explained, my voice steady despite my racing heart. "Please tell Elder Elara we're here." As she hurried away, I gently rocked Lucas, murmuring soft reassurances. Five years as Alexander's mate had taught me to maintain composure even when terrified.
