Chapter 6

"Leave this place and take me with you. "

The words lingered in my head. Was I being serious or that was me messing around? Sloane had caught us kissing and that would very much destroy my career here. Also, Charles owns too. He'd be fucked if his father finds that thing.

I reluctantly walked in, hoping and praying desperately that he could get that phone.

"Darcie!"

I flinched at the sound of my name. It was Charles' mother coming out briskly from the entrance.

"What are you doing out here? Do you not know your job anymore?" her lips curled.

"I'm sorry."

I trailed behind her till we got back in. My heart ached seeing Sloane inside. Charles is sitting down with a bored expression on his face with Genevieve laughing and engaging with him.

A lot of questions swirled through my head. Did he get it? Or am I going to serve punishment?

"Darcie...come here now!" Mr. Sterling's harsh voice made me flinch in fear and I ran to his table already.

"Sir?"

"Why would you suddenly run off when you're supposed to be clearing the plates?" He scowled.

"I'm so sorry." I continued with my work but saw Sloane's back moving towards the exit, shoulders lowered and loose like she didn't win. I gave Charles a side stare and he just gave me a subtle thumbs up indicating that everything was fine.

I just stood by the corner observing. I hated to be here.

A few hours later, after the senatorial dinner had ended, we drove back to the house. Just silence. An oppressive one at that. Charles and I were in the same car. He took the front seat with the driver and his parents were ahead in another car. I didn't forget what happened after the dinner. They wanted Genevieve and Charles to be close. The way they kept on forcing him was awkward.

Maybe I should try and say something "Charles, i–"

"If it's about what you said earlier, forget it. That wasn't me. That....that was us being stupid and yes, forget about the kiss." He turned to look me in the eye. "It was a mistake."

"Mistake?" I took a deep breath. "Okay. Fine."

The moment the car glided in the mansion. I stepped down before him, scurrying angrily straight to my room. I should have never let my guard down to kiss him. That bastard thinks he's all that. I'll show him. I had my bath, preparing to sleep when a knock on the door made me get up from bed.

"Who could that be?" I muttered. I opened the door. Charles was standing there with a book in his hands, I frowned, anger boiled inside of me and I attempted to shut the door but he placed his legs in-between, making me confused.

"What do you want? Go away." I pushed the door.

"Hey, quit trying to close the door on me. You're my sitter. I have every right to see you." He argued, eyes sizing me up.

"Fine. What do you want?"

He throws the book on the bed. "You didn't collect my work. You know I have to submit that tomorrow in school. Are you trying to make me fail? Or don't you know your job anymore?"

He stepped closer, intimidating me. I've had enough of his proud and stupid behavior. This time, I'll show him....but without talking back. I'll just let him treat me badly.

"I'm sorry. I should have done that. Forgive me." I say gently.

He tilts his head. Maybe surprised that my mouth wasn't sharp this time. He expected me to talk back and challenge.

"Good. Bring them back when you're done."

I nod. "Sure."

He stepped out slowly and I closed the door behind him. "Asshole."

Flipping the pages, I start working on the math. I couldn't concentrate but thought about the kiss. That easily? I just let him. I groaned and continued to work on it.

When I woke up the next morning, I realized I slept with my face on the book. Worst of all, I was late for school. I managed to get up and finished the work, then rushed to take my bath.

I heard my name from the door. Charles. Fuck, I made us extremely late. With no time to brush my hair, I wore my clothes and took my bag haphazardly.

I opened the door catching my breath.

"Do you know what the time is?" Charles stood by the door, looking fine as hell.

"I overslept." I stepped out of the room and walked away like he wasn't there.

"Hey." He called back but I didn't answer. I cascaded the stairs and Mrs. Sterling was on the table eating.

"How bad of you." She stopped me, looking all disappointed.

"Sorry. I overslept."

I couldn't care about breakfast even though I was starving. I just apologized and kept moving till I was outside. The driver stood, arms crossed. Charles was behind me. We sat in the car and it glided out of the mansion to the road.

He didn't say anything. He just collected his notebook and textbook without a thank you. I didn't say anything either.

While we got to school, every student stared like a staring contest. I didn't mind. It's not new and I don't even care. I just bowed my head and walked to my locker.

I suddenly tripped and fell on the floor causing a scene. My head hit the floor and I winced in pain. Looking up to see Sloane. A satisfied stare on her face.

"Oops. Sorry. I just did that as a revenge plan since I didn't get to show Mr Sterling the kissing video."

I stood to my feet. "What the hell?"

"Charles deleted it." She frowned. "He was too fast."

My muscles quivered and my jaws clenched in anger. I'm fucking tired of being treated this way.

"Oh. Look at you flaring." She laughed, enjoying the jest. "What are you going to do, huh?"

I suddenly pounced on her, yanking her hair off. Her horrific screams burst through the hallways as everyone gathered, watching.
