Chapter 2

“I have to deal with something at the office. I’ll send you to the office next time.”

However, when I appeared at the office, I felt something was wrong.

Everyone was looking at me with pity and sympathy. Some of them were looking at me mockingly.

I accidentally overheard two colleagues whispering.

“Oh my! Is Aidan going to abandon Liora?”

“Today, during the meeting, Seraphina kept touching her hair and exposing the hickeys on her neck. I can tell they’re from Aidan.”

I dropped the files that I was holding. They landed with a soft thud.

The gossiping immediately stopped.

I squatted down to pick up the files, but the papers seemed stuck to the floor. Whenever I picked them up, they would fall back onto the floor again.

I took a few deep breaths to calm myself down.

There were a lot of tasks to complete at work, and I was working until midnight.

Suddenly, I felt someone’s hand on my shoulder.

“Liora, why aren’t you replying to my text messages?”

I lowered my head and looked at the blazer Aidan had put on me. It smelled like cologne. I picked up my phone.

[What brand of perfumes do girls usually like?]

Two years ago, during the dinner when he was named the Alpha, I did my makeup and wore the most expensive gown I owned. I even bought really expensive perfume.

However, he had covered his nose and pushed me away in disgust.

“What perfume is this? This smells horrible! Get lost, don’t embarrass me!”

I saw a brand new bottle of perfume on my desk.

Aidan saw that I remained expressionless, so he was a bit surprised.

“Don’t you like perfume?”

I simply replied, “It’s too strong. It’s giving me a headache.”

The silence seemed eerie and weird in the office.

After a few minutes, he sneered, “I’ll go grab something. Let’s leave together.”

He had just left when his phone that he left behind buzzed.

Seraphina’s name appeared on the screen.

[Aidan, that’s too many perfumes! I don’t think I’ll be able to finish them even by the time I’m 70.]

The next second, Seraphina sent a photo. Dozens of perfume bottles were displayed on the floor. Seraphina was sitting next to them. She was wearing a pair of black tights, and it was hard to look away.

After I went home, I walked into the bedroom and started to pack my belongings.

When Aidan finished showering and opened the closet, he realized that only a few of my clothes were left inside.

“Liora, I’m going to Italy for a business trip. Let me know your size, and I’ll get a few custom-made pieces for you.”

I straightaway rejected him. “There’s no need for that.”

I was going to leave in a few days.

He tossed the hangers onto the bed and glanced at me coldly. “I’m buying you presents. Don’t act up even if you don’t like it.”

I started to explain myself when Aidan looked at me scornfully.

“Liora, don’t think you can do this to get my attention.

“I hate fake women the most. You’re really crossing the line this time.”

He put on a coat and slammed the door behind him.

Over the ten years that we were together, Aidan would always slam the door whenever we fought.

I would always follow behind him and beg for his forgiveness.

But I was exhausted.

Aidan kept checking his phone, but I did not send him any text messages.

The next morning, I made breakfast for two as usual.

I finished my breakfast and was ready to leave when Aidan walked out of his study with a darkened expression.

His face was covered with stubble, and he had dark circles under his eyes. It seemed that he had not slept for the whole night.

He showed his phone to me and instructed me impatiently.

“Liora, you don’t have to go to the office today.

“I want you to finish decorating the event space exactly like this before 3 p.m..”
