Chapter 3

Georgina's POV

I wonder if it's the same thing he wants to do with me but I'm no one compared to the super-classy models and actresses he deals with.

"I just wanted to ask how you're doing, how your work is going on." He replies after a minute of silence but his tone tells more than that, it has some undercurrents of interest.

"I was sacked," I snapped, saying in a sorrowful tone. A gasp escapes his throat, a gasp I can hear clearly.

"What was wrong, I mean, I can't believe this?"

"Hmm," I scoff, rolling my eyes. Aren't you the one that caused it? I wanted to say but something holds me back, it would sound disrespectful. "I can't really relate but… but I was found indiligent, I didn't complete my duty before the set time." I put this up rather, I listen back to it and it sounds nice, better than what I intended to say earlier.

"Has it been long, which day was that?"

"The day we met!" Immediately, silence fills the space between us, Christian can't say a word. This persists until I feel that he has ended the call from his end, I withdraw it from my ear to check but he's still on, why isn't he saying something then? "Your Highness?"

"Yes," his voice finally came up. "I'm so sad to hear this, I mean, come on, that's so bad. But I see you as a diligent girl, why would that happen to you?"

"Hmm," I exhale heavily, this question is a huge temptation, how will I answer it without saying what I wish to avoid the most. "It happened that way and I needed to accept it." I just managed to say, it sounds abstract but it's better simple like that.

"So what're you doing now?"

"Nothing!".

"Would you like working with me?"

"Wha..?" I gasp, I think I didn't hear him quite well or it's a dream. "How would that be possible, you're in Asark and I'm in Ngotu, you see the distance between us?" I speak with a nervous tone, it's very surprising.

"It doesn't matter."

"But I don't get what you mean?" The true character of Christian flies into my memory. He's a flirt that loves hooking up with girls even when he's already married. What type of a job does he mean? Could it be that he's referring to my greatest suspicion?

"All challenges concerning our distance and other factors wouldn't bother you if you accept." His statement drops with an aura of authority leaving me pondering, would I be able to cope with his attitude. If I work for him, that means I'll to a great extent be under his authority and he might want to try me out like he does to other girls. I shake my head in reluctance.

"I'm sorry but I might..."

"You don't have to bother, nothing to fear. I'm just seeking to help you get on with life. You just can't stay unemployed. Think about it."

"You're the Alpha, where will I work?"

"In my company or as my Personal Assistant."

"I'm sorry, I don't have the qualifications, looking for low paying jobs. I never went to college, so I'm ineligible for this." I reply, a bit confident, this would be such a great opportunity for me but I don't see myself working as a PA to this charming and seductive Alpha when he already has a wife. I'd be so close in this position and a series of temptations might come along the way. I would love to work in his multi-billionaire fashion company and institute which according to Forbes has over three hundred thousand staff, but I have no paper qualifications.

He keeps silent for a while, before he finally sighs in frustration. I feel he's ready to say something else, "Can we meet personally and talk about this?"

"Where?" I say rolling my eyes, I don't wanna be tempted.

"In Asark."

I chuckle as he says this, I don't even have money to feed and he's talking of me meeting him in Asark.

"But I don't have the transport to come over?"

"I will send my private jet to come pick you up at the airport, don't worry." Oh my goodness! I chuckle, this must be a pure joke.

My heart begins to sink slowly into the unexpected excitement. A voice within me tells me it's real, Christian means what he has just said. Never in my life have I dreamt of one day taking a flight, talk less of being transported in a private jet to meet an Alpha who is the world's richest werewolf personality.

There's silence between us, I sense Christian being under great tension wondering if I'd decline again but who would be that foolish to forfeit this great opportunity? "Thanks so much Alpha Christian," I finally said, trying hard to control my excitement. I feel that his tension is gone now I've accepted his offer.

"You're welcome," he replies with a cold, sexy voice and hangs up the call. Immediately I drop the phone on my bed, I jump up in excitement letting out such a loud scream which I believe some neighbors many meters away would hear. Today is the happiest day of my life, a day I wouldn't easily forget, a day set down in the history of my life.

"Asark, here I come!" I scream so loud.

On the day Christian scheduled for my trip, I packed my things, the little things I have, ready to make the most interesting trip of my life. All my body is giggling, my face beaming with smiles. I can't wait to reach Asark and meet with my fortune. Days of suffering are over and long gone, I'd only remember them as history now.

As I reach Asark International Airport, I walk to the spot for private jets. From a distance, I see a large jumbo aircraft waiting for me, it has giant prints of Alpha Christian inscribed on its side in deep blue as the body of the plane is white. I blush, walking up excitingly.

Chapter 1 : Shadows Cast at Moonset** Seven years into their marriage, Kathleen knew her place in David’s world. To him, she was less a wife and more a convenient outlet—a bedmate for whenever the urge struck. After yet another passionless encounter, he absently nuzzled the top of her head. “If I haven’t found her by the time I turn thirty, I’ll settle down with you for good.” Kathleen knew exactly who occupied his heart: the little girl who had pulled him from the sea over twenty years before. He’d once confessed promising her, even then, that he would marry her when he grew up. For seven years, Kathleen had asked the same question—what if you never find her? For seven years, David had never answered. But tonight, she finally had the answer she’d longed for. A fragile hope fluttered in her chest, because after midnight, David would be thirty. She had thrown a lavish party at his estate on the outskirts of town. Now, in the castle’s top-floor suite, the frantic energy of their encounter had dissipated. In one hour, they would stand before that same castle, hand in hand, ready to face the future. Wincing at the soreness in her lower back, Kathleen leaned in and pressed a soft kiss to his Adam’s apple, her gaze hazy with lingering desire. “Wait for me.” An hour later, she stood in a shimmering fishtail gown, a pair of matching wedding bands clutched in her palm. *After tonight*, she thought, *we can finally leave the past behind and truly begin.* But when she turned, she saw David embracing another woman. The man who was usually so aloof he rarely smiled now held a look of wild, disbelieving joy, his voice trembling. “I finally found you!” The woman wore a simple white dress, her face a portrait of innocent alarm. Kathleen stood frozen, the warmth draining from her fingertips in an instant. It was Emily, the daughter of the Jiang family’s former housekeeper. She had lived in the household with her mother since childhood. Kathleen’s father had always treated her kindly, even sponsoring her overseas studies seven years ago. Their personalities had never meshed, resulting in a relationship of consistent, cool politeness. “Mr. David,” Emily stammered, shrinking back slightly, “you… you must have the wrong person.” David released her, his fingers gently tracing the jade pendant hanging from her neck. His voice softened, as if handling a priceless treasure. “This is the token I gave you when you saved me. Why did you never come find me?” Emily looked bewildered. “I… I had a high fever after nearly drowning as a child. I lost some memories. I don’t remember who gave me this pendant.” “It was me,” David said, his eyes blazing. “I told you back then, you would be my only bride in this lifetime.” The words were a knife, plunging straight into Kathleen’s heart. Emily’s gaze, however, drifted over David’s shoulder, locking onto Kathleen. “But Mr. David, you’re already married to Ms. Kathleen.” David turned. The tenderness in his eyes vanished, replaced by the detached coolness reserved for a stranger. “I told her before we married that my heart belonged to someone else. She made her choice.” A suffocating pain seized her chest, stealing her breath. She remembered seven years ago, when the Shen and Jiang families first broached the alliance. The first time she saw David, she’d fallen for those cool, distant eyes. Even then, he had stated plainly: he was waiting for someone. He would never love her. But she, stubborn and proud, had assured him, “I can wait. If you truly find her, I’ll step aside willingly.” She’d been too young, too confident, convinced that time and closeness would work in her favor. Just last night, he had held her and murmured, “Kathleen, let’s have a proper wedding.” Cradled in his arms, her heart had raced, believing she had finally grasped the moon. Now, he was saying his heart belonged only to Emily.
